The Story of a P99 Blue Scumbag

So there I was in Dragon Necropolis doing Bard things when a wild scumbag appears! Thomacles <The Second Sons> had a hankering for some mischief when he spawned a construct and aggroed some spiders. So what does Thomacles <The Second Sons> decide the best course of action is? Why, to drop his construct at the zone line, of course.

Unfortunately, I was in the back half pulling spiders, while my friend was AFK at the zone line using the bathroom. When he flopped the construct at the ZL, it then immediately aggros my friend, bringing all his spider buddies with him. I spent significant time gathering this pull, but when I get to the ZL I find my dead friend and a construct surprise that I now have to deal with. All of this while Thomacles is just laying there flopped.

There are a lot of people on this server that do not understand how the constructs work. That they will literally aggro you from anywhere within line of sight, and they give zero F's how far away you are. You shouldn't do that, but being ignorant of mechanics does not make you a scumbag.

What does make you a scumbag is to deny that you did anything wrong in the face of clear evidence (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XiHk7D0iXWU). To walk away from a shit show like this and leave it for innocent people to clean up on your behalf puts you in an entirely new stratosphere of scumbaggery. A simple apology and an offer to help goes a long way, but Thomacles is a scumbag, and that's not what scumbags do.

When you see Thomacles <The Second Sons>, know that he is the type of person to train you, and upon seeing the video evidence of it, insist that they did nothing wrong.

At the very least he could help me recharge my WC cap, but that's what a decent person would do, so I won't get my hopes up.

He didn't deliberately train. It was clearly an accident as he doesn't understand how the constructs work. What he did deliberately do was deny all wrong doing when faced with the video, then walk away leaving his mess for us to clean up.

Also, my friend was just taking a leak. He wasn't gone more than a minute. Should he have logged for 1 min to pee? Nobody is going to do that.

PSA for those unaware - do not step on or near the bones in DN. They will spawn constructs which come to a dead halt wherever agro is dropped on them. They should have flopped their construct elsewhere, especially since that "camp" was taken, but its also never good to assume you're safe afk at a zoneline.

There's no real clear definition of what an ARMY Ranger actually is. I met a lot of guys who have Ranger scrolls and no Ranger tabs, and a lot of guys who have Ranger Tabs, but no Ranger scroll.

I'm personally not impressed by Rangers or Ranger school. You don't actually do anything special to get into a Ranger battalion, the decision is made at MEPS before you even go to basic training. And Ranger school is essentially a school for officers, and if you're in the back of the line on day 1, you automatically fail the PT test since they will meet their quota long before it's your turn.

Even the Battalion is pretty gay, and isn't elite. For instance, you could be the most badass E-4 in the entire ARMY, and a Ranger battalion won't take you because you're too experienced to be brainwashed. My platoon sergeant, who is literally the most badass sniper I ever met, and actually is what Chris Kyle pretended to be got kicked out of a Ranger batt as a private because they caught him chewing bubble gum.

Also I want to add that the standards for all ARMY schools have deteriorated dramatically from when I went in. When I went to sniper school, it had one of the highest attrition rates, higher than Ranger school for it's respective time period. And they don't just send a kid to sniper school, they literally have try-outs for a sniper platoon, and when they hand pick the best soldiers they have for the position, they spend months training him, preparing him for sniper school. You don't MAKE your Ghillie suit in Sniper school, you make it at your unit, long before you go to the school.

Despite all of this effort, the failure rate in sniper school was still huge.

Flash forward to now, my friends who stayed in, most of which were admittedly terrible soldiers but super like-able, sociable guys, which is why I still talk to them to this day. Almost all of them are now sniper qualified because they essentially made the school accessible to anyone, and made it to where you can no longer fail.

We even had a soldier (who again, I'm still friends with), who was so bad that everyone wanted to have him chaptered out of the Military. Even though we were friends with the guy, we recognized that he brought the unit down and was a liability to have in our unit. He never met the standard for anything, wrecked a humvee on an interstate after getting super drunk, causing massive collateral damage to civilian vehicles, lost his rifle, had negligent discharges, pissed hot for drugs 24/7. He was just a terrible soldier.

This same kid later became Special Forces. Not because he suddenly turned his life around, but rather because the standards got reduced dramatically, and they desperately needed more African Americans to meet their quota.

Most Special Forces guys (not the ones you see on TV) will tell you that the regular Infantry have a way tougher mission than they do, as evidenced by the death toll afflicting the regular ARMY moreso than SOCOM.

But the point still remains, in the ARMY, no one really agrees what makes someone a Ranger. The guys you see walking around with Ranger tabs likely never served in a Ranger unit, and many guys who served in a Ranger unit never get their tabs.

Fun fact: I was the first 19D in the entire ARMY to go through Sniper school (https://i.imgur.com/Y5SKiz1.jpg). Kind of crazy to think about some nerdy kid dropping out of high school and then joining the ARMY and really excelling at life. So there I was in Dragon Necropolis doing Bard things when a wild scumbag appears! Thomacles <The Second Sons> had a hankering for some mischief when he spawned a construct and aggroed some spiders. So what does Thomacles <The Second Sons> decide the best course of action is? Why, to drop his construct at the zone line, of course.

Unfortunately, I was in the back half pulling spiders, while my friend was AFK at the zone line using the bathroom. When he flopped the construct at the ZL, it then immediately aggros my friend, bringing all his spider buddies with him. I spent significant time gathering this pull, but when I get to the ZL I find my dead friend and a construct surprise that I now have to deal with. All of this while Thomacles is just laying there flopped.

There are a lot of people on this server that do not understand how the constructs work. That they will literally aggro you from anywhere within line of sight, and they give zero F's how far away you are. You shouldn't do that, but being ignorant of mechanics does not make you a scumbag.

What does make you a scumbag is to deny that you did anything wrong in the face of clear evidence (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XiHk7D0iXWU). To walk away from a shit show like this and leave it for innocent people to clean up on your behalf puts you in an entirely new stratosphere of scumbaggery. A simple apology and an offer to help goes a long way, but Thomacles is a scumbag, and that's not what scumbags do.

When you see Thomacles <The Second Sons>, know that he is the type of person to train you, and upon seeing the video evidence of it, insist that they did nothing wrong.

Er no. Once there was a framework of rules kill stealing was not allowed. Early on in classic there were no rules like this because no one had any idea what jerks people could become online. Once we realized it was a problem you had rules put in place prohibiting kill stealing. There may have been certain mobs that were a DPS race but your average mob was not supposed to be a DPS race.

Of course, it was very hard to catch kill stealing in action unless you happened to catch the complaint quickly and/or the griefer was doing it for a more extended period of time. I banned someone permanently for a third infraction of grieving because they were kill stealing someone for like half an hour straight.

And it would usually be 3-4 hours before a GM would even look at a ticket, and by that point, the issue had usually resolved on it's own.
