Does anyone else remember the ships that travel between Butcherblock and Freeport being different? I seem to recall them being of a different design, with multiple decks and a different sail. You could even go inside the ship, or climb up onto the upper deck at the rear to watch the waves go by. Is there a reason why that ship design isn't being used? I definintely remember them visually glitching out after Luclin was launched, and eventually being replaced by porting NPCs. Perhaps that's why.
Anyway, just curious if anyone knows the answer. Or remembers the same ships that I do.
The actual boat itself seems to be the same one I remember, but I only played EQ specifically in classic in the timeline we are. I've never even seen the plane of knowledge, for example :p
The route is of coure different here, but everyone can see that exact change on the wiki.
The boat itself though.. it feels normal to me.

I believe the BBM to FP boat to be correct. It's smaller than the Kunark one so it can fit at the FP docks haha. The Kunark ship from BBM is HUGE however. I always wished they had merchants on that ship like a real ferry. Maybe things a little cheaper because it's duty free :)

The boat is very wrong. They instead used a moving version of the scenery boat docked outside of Butcherblock harbor. The real boat looked completely different.

Original boat you could go inside the lower deck and up much higher onto the back deck. 3 sails. And this amazing music. https://youtu.be/TSNXH5nBRU0

The p99 boat makes you float on it, which I don't remember back in the day.

Yeah, that's another mod they had to do so people didn't clip through their hacked boat.

They couldn't get the old boat to work at all on EQEmu, this is a compromise (as is the levi effect).

the last dragon I have left to chase is the sub deck of the boat and that sweet sweet music, and not levitating.

Yeah there was a different boat. I wish they could have managed to get it to work on here for the BB to FP nostalgia

Are there still boats in the real/current EQ?

From what I understand, the collision detection for the original boat models were broken on live for years and many clients, including Titanium, were impacted. This probably happened when they upgraded to Dx9 in 2004. You would just fall through the boat. These were not fixed until new boat models were added years later.

yeah I remember around the time of LDoN they had to start implementing translocators everywhere

Yes, that boat in the picture with the Aqua Goblin is the one I remember! It is good to see it again. The boat they're using works now, but it just doesn't feel the same.. or fit at the docks, haha.
Oh yeah looking at the goblin picture, that IS the old boat. Why is the one i'm riding look so correct? :O

I remember finally zoning into OOT.....in the water and watching the boat sail away because it took you too long to zone in.

Did you participate in the EQ beta? The ship used by P1999 was a relic from the Everquest beta, before the current ships were added. Perhaps that's why you recall it, or you might've seen the beta ship in some very old screenshots or art assets. It's visible in the original loadscreen art, for example. P99 was somewhat lucky in that EQ's developers simply left the old model in after replacing it.
As a side note, the major ship routes in Ocean of Tears and Erud's Crossing should've been changed to two ships per route instead of one long ago on "Blue" and are approaching that point in the timeline on "Green" as well.

The boats had names too didn't they? Something tells me there were two that ran between BB to East Freeport because the boat wasn't always named the same (unless boats despawn) :p

You used to be able to use the tutorial to load any zone offline and explore it. Just the map, no mobs.

yes - two separate boats ran between Freeport and Butcherblock and two between Erudin and Qeynos.

because you've bene on p99 for so long that it just feels right to you. Fabrication of memories is a real and true phenomenon.

Reconstructive memory, Bartlett, right?
Im not sure about the BB docks in p99, but the freeport boat also parks at the wrong angle. should be perpendicular to the length of the dock.

This just in: boats seem to block arrows.
