Not as many lowbies leveling, not as many people to group with. Depending on the class, soloing is rough without buffs.
What's that untwinked level 9 paladin with no group to do?

As a noob lowbie, I let many different druids run by without begging for a sow, even tho getting one would be convenient. I only ask if I have to do a long run through multiple zones, and mention that in the request. So if someone is asking, keep in mind that they may not be pestering everyone; you might be the first druid out of 10 druids they asked
I also give breeze to anyone and everyone I pass who looks like they are killing mobs in the area. I’ve even given it to iksar monks mistaking them for shaman, and to other enchanters because they didn’t have a rod so I mistook them for a diff cloth caster. If everyone was so liberal with buffs, there would be no more begging
Edit: I’ve only ever been tipped once. I don’t expect it at all, and when someone gave me 5pp for it all I thought was “wow this guy must be rich”

Just ignore them. Plenty of people enjoy buffing obvious lower level new players to help them make it through those starter levels.

Most higher level folks hanging out by nerb yards are there to give out buffs'n'stuff. Like the nice gentleman in the van with candy painted on the side.
As for asking for buffs, that's just the way it is on p99. Old project with mostly veteran players who want to get through the early levels as quickly as possible. Same with porting.
I'll usually drop a sow on someone, or if I happen to have a lot of mana handy, a SoN, SoW, regen and thorns. Makes a huge difference!

Buffs hardly erase all danger from the game. If anything they allow for more adventure and less tedium. Instead of slowly treading through empty wasteland lowbies can speed over to the next zone and get right to exploring or into their next fight. Rather than AFKing at a safe spot while they slowly regen HP and mana they can continue playing.
It's not that these people are unable to kill anything and are forced to log out if they can't find buffers, they're simply looking to get better returns on their time investment.

I thoroughly enjoy helping people new to green. I go out of my way to even give them gear and PL them sometimes. I suppose I understand how the game can be hard to sometimes break a players spirit and to me the social \ helpfullness of others is what makes this game unique and wonderful. I remember getting on live as a teen and my friends giving me gear. That really cemented my path forward in the game. I dislike it when people ask for things without being kind of any type of manners however ive come to realize some players don't speak English and ive met some awesome people questioning their methods asking for help lol

Just like the paparazzi is the price you pay for fame IRL, being begged for buffs is the price you pay for being a druid
You could always just put them on /ignore, which is why I personally don’t beg anyone. I don’t like the idea of being on someone’s /ignore list forever, especially when it might actually matter later on when I’m trying to get groups for stuff. I already get enough of being put on /ignore for offering slightly less than regular price for items in EC, don’t need any extra /ignores in my EQ life

As a druid I always give buffs when asked for even if its annoying. Being a druid has too many perks to not help out the scrubs playing melees with no twink gear. not to mention the good karma for port tips when they level up, long term investment.
If your a shaman, idk no pity for you, you know what you signed up for, being a buff bitch.

The efficiency you get from buffs at low level is insane. dropping buffs on a noob is basically a powerlevel for duration of that buff. They ask because it takes very little of your time and makes them a billion times better at the grind.
So ya question you should ask yourself is why you are so begrudging.
Its like guy being irritated at his 4 year old son for asking for food and to be read books and to play and what are you doing all the time. The 4 year old will ask even if you treat him like shit because the reward is worth it for him. Same with the EQ noob.

When I give some extremely fortunate recipient Skin, SoW, Chloro and DS, it then takes me three minutes and six seconds to get that mana back.
I rarely feel like rooting myself for 3 minutes. When I help people I prefer to be more active.
Sounds like someone with a middle tier/higher level character that still doesn't know how to make really good money. So wants to complain they aren't getting tips for buffs. That's chump change yo, same goes for ports. I port for free cause I can make 1k hour if I want to. When you got cash you don't sweat the little things.

I have actually revised my stance on buffs. Before when I was level 16-20 I posted in this thread saying I give everyone and anyone around me breeze, and that was true. Now that I’m in my 30’s, there is a CONSTANT battle for spawns in every zone I try to exp in. There’s just too many god damn people on Green and not enough mobs to go around in exp areas that are worth a shit. If it’s not some level 45+ running through killing everything for plat then it’s a 15 different necros (who don’t need my buff anyway) and druids all fighting over the few roaming spawns around
So no, I have zero incentive to toss a Druid who is competing with me (and doesn’t want to group) clarity so that he can become more efficient at directly lowering my ability to exp. I’ll toss someone a clarity if I’m passing them to a new area, or if I’m logging off. If you’re competing with me over a limited number of spawns you get nothing. And I don’t expect or want a sow from you either
And I don’t even TRY to play anywhere close to prime time. I’ll log on, see that my exp spot is crowded, go to the gym for a few hours, come back on at 1am, and see the same 3 necros and 3 druids farming it up that have been there the past 5 hours. So sick of the freaking crowds on Green...

I have no issues with people asking for buffs, because if they ask and I have the mana then sure why not. It's a win/win, they are happy cause they got buffs and I'm happy cause I helped someone. If you're in the tunnel buffin nubs is just something to do to pass the time between hitting shift+up arrow/enter.
If you don't have mana to spare tell em you are lom and if they get indignant then /note their name and let your friends know to never buff the ungrateful pricks.
Another option if I like to use when I don't want to blow through a ton of mana is just toss em a tier down of buffs regen/skin like steel/str of stone/sow. It still helps em out considerably, but doesn't eat all of my mana and if I'm not portin' I'm /anon so it's not like they'll know enough to bitch I didn't give 'em top tier stuff anyway.
Somewhat related I almost never give nubs damage shield because it gets them killed more often than it helps cause they don't realize how short the duration is. They think they are suddenly gods and can fight 3 red cons at once forever, then that buff fades a few minutes in and they are asking me for a sow for CR.

It's low and disrespectful. I don't get it.
Wow, heard of paying it forward? It's a perspective, maybe you might appreciate it?
I cast breeze on everyone that would benefit from it. Unless I'm in the actual tunnel, in which case I only cast on the people that wave or stand in front of me. I haste melee chars when I run past them and they're fighting something.
If an opportunity arise in which something within my power could be alleviating for someone else, WHY would I not rise to meet that opportunity? Isn't that WHY I'm even presented with the opportunity in the first place?
Give me one coherent reason.
I might not give my only pair of shoes to the homeless man who clearly isn't wearing much. But this game isn't anywhere NEAR as hard as the game called "RL" is, and the questing in RL is substantially harder to figure out. But I do, even then, pay my intentions forward.
So, in this game, I see little to no purpose spreading discord, and only purpose doing the opposite.
