I do not see why someone would start over again doing the same shit
This projects population was not meant for more than 1 server (lol red)
And from what I read from the guild/raid/rnf forums, history is repeating and there is nothing you can do about it.

Green was a mistake.
You will get assimilated with Blue + forum achievements

But,

Thank you for Blue. I got all the shit outta my system I had pent up from live here.

Green was a fantastic idea. All the turbo autismos headed over there to go crazy at each other over classic garbo for a year, leaving blue way more laid back and friendly. Just as people were getting sick of classic and started slithering their way back to blue, bam - kunark saves the day.

Start overs are fun!

The biggest letdown for me was the import of blue mindset. Example: Teal was great, orc groups in Highkeep 24/7. Once the merge happened the camp got taken by anon level 50s as if the 2 dragons on the server need a weeks worth of idols to engage.

I was hoping the lack of end-game meant people would take the levelling experience a bit slower and try out more remote areas. Nope, instead everyone min maxed to 50 and complained of a lack of content sfter only visiting like 4 zones.

I was naiive.

I agree with OP. Green was a let down. Starting over wasn't fun and now Blue isn't fun for me either.

Now that Green is in Kunark it's functionally almost no different than Blue as far as leveling and leveling gear goes.

Is there still a lot of pvp on red or people just so excited to run into someone they become friends?

magnetaress

There's lots of pvp on red I died 3x this month in pvp to ppl on my cleric.

EQ pvp isn't about 'killing pvp 1v1' it's about forming guilds and making friends and fighting the other guys and pks vs antipks.

Lots of Valorrous Elves RPing and PvPing on red in the name of justice, liberty, freedom, and just general shenanigains everywhere.

If u want arena style pvp try fortnight or wow.

If you want an epic character arc and freedom to fully express yourself out side of typing /list try red.

P99 has been a thing for over a decade now. Log off for a while. It will very likely still be here if you want to return.

magnetaress

I predict p99 will run concurrently with EQ classic and EQ live until basically there's no more old computers, @ which point unity will be the only option and we'll all simulate an entire p99 universe in our quantom computer implants while we man our bridge stations on a Galaxy Class Starship.

the problem isn't overpopulation, it's that all you snaggletooths only want the top .1% of farming locations.

I have had a ton of fun on green and continue to, I'm sorry for your envy op.

Everquest and this server in general are very much an allegory for real life; you think you want the fancy yacht, and once you attain the fancy yacht, it does not seem so fancy. You find meaning and belonging where you can, and you are much better off for it; from the casual to the hardcore.

Thanks this has been EQ therapy 2020 you will be receiving a bill in the mail. A pre-paid return envelope is included for your convenience.

Looking forward to the following

Red 2.0
Green 2.0

Both of these servers will probably have legacy fixes in place, and probably level caps.

Legacy items place in game being modified to fix the insane poopsocking of green.

Level caps to fix the insane bumrush to max level.

If this is about making a 1999 style experience these changes are no brainers.

ya i find living without pixels and not focusing them (like i still get them) is funner, my cleric is literally fucking naked with 100 wisdom and killing mobs at 35 on red. so it cant be that bad

back when i 1st met gustoo i was like this hardcore lets grind cleric and i think i kinda snubbed him a lil passive aggressively cuz he would kill a mob and log out then log in like 40 minutes later and kill another mob haha

I think when we met I was grinding hard playing catchup because I played red beta and didn't even see the (NO ANNOUNCEMENT) red 99 official launch so was weeks or months late to red. So I had to grind it out to get a DE mask and all of the other stuff that people were focused on. Prepping up my toons to bind at firepots when kunark drops, and all that shit. Later on I had to switch up my strategy to accomodate work / school schedule but I was able to put in some good hours for a little while.

Thats why I know it would be better if it wasn't in game. Becuase if it is in game for red2.0 I am going to do the following:

1. Get a guise for a ogre sk, get a guise for a ogre shaman, get a guise for a cleric, get a guise for a paladin. Camp at least 1 manastone

2. Get a grip of characters queued up and ready to go bind at the firepots keeping nice offline sheets for all their separate individual account information ETC ETC

3. Not ever get a chance to have fun because I am investing in my Project 1999 character long term wealth.

Thats why I am basically begging for the next servers to be done differently with regards to legacy items. It just takes the most glorious part of EQ and turns it into a limited time opportunity to get some legacy stuff. And it isn't optional. If I am trying to do fun-quest project 1999 at least half or more of the people I am going to encounter are going to be in Rat-Race 1999 which means that the whole server is pretty much infected.

So it really needs to be done differently on the next round of servers.

magnetaress
12-21-2020, 03:41 PM
They could always extend legacy out to 3yrs or something :D

Gustoo
12-21-2020, 04:04 PM
I think the items should either not be in the game, or in the game in a totally different fashion like random drop from whatever mobs or via in game casino that takes game currency and servers as an inflation fighter. That would also allow them to fix the plat drop rates from all the plat farming mobs that have been nerfed over the years here to try to combat inflation or something.

i wanna see the staff make people live stream as they run an event irl like the make a gnome and run to kael shit except irl just to qualify for the /list command. then they must camp it 100 hours.

u kno people would be doing it

This looks like Milana Vayntrub who is best known as the AT&T sales girl "Lilly".

I found the most awesome "cough" audition video "cough" she made before she was selling cell phone plans on television. It was very revealing of her talents ;)

But I digress. To the OP, why the hell would you play a game for approximately a year if you were not having fun? I get that sometimes if your farming or killing placeholders for hours that the game can be tedious and boring. But that should be offset by the excitement and fun when you gain that big level, kill that raid mob or complete that quest and receive the item you worked so hard for.

I concur. I haven't had fun with video games since Ninja Turtles on NES. Everquest was a new type of game created with technology that I had no seen before. Interaction with other players when that was still novel.

Maybe I am weird but I find things here interesting but not specifically fun. Fun for me is hanging on to a dirt bike that is trying to tear my arms off. Fun for me is doing something I shouldn't be, risking injury but managing to skate away one last time.

I was interesting in what people were doing with tech. Depressed when the industry devolved into console boxes. Not interesting.

I'm trapped here, it's fun only cuz I make it fun for myself, but there's other things I could be doing that would be equal or better fun or just better for the world and environment.
