Why do people prefer Live over classic?

Although Live is kind of a let-down in terms of difficulty and challenge most of the times due to steamrolling content on every expansion.
I personally swapped, to be able to check all the expansions i missed.

Because life progressed. The things that make p99 impossible for most people were (almost immediately) resolved by early expansions. Live is just a better game with more interesting mechanics than exploiting pathing and 2-Dimensional player involvement.

Too much to go into here, but here’s one thing that will always shit on “Classic”: there’s no perks or rewards for doing hard shit on p99, except having an epic weapon that has been bottlenecked and MQd by people who have to deal with their own bottleneck and pay for an MQ themselves. Live even went so far as having Evolving Gear, which you unlock through things like “Visiting every zone in Norrath” or “doing all the quests and missions in certain list of expansions,” or “killing every named mob in a list of expansions.”

In short, if you play the game, you are rewarded with better shit than 3am batphones and man children crying about FTE. And, it’s just patently more fun.

Live has far more content. It doesn't take long to experience every zone on P99 at which point you either quit or just farm the same stuff over and over in search of a long lost feeling.

Live is a very flawed and bloated game though, but at least it lets your explore more of Norrath.

Don’t have the files on my mobile, but if you look up “Restless Ice Plate Ornamentation,” that’s the current raid tier augmentations you can score doing raids. I currently oscillate between the Thaell Ew plate/leather on my SK/BST and the Arx Mentis plate, which is the raid ornaments from that expansion: https://www.everquest.com/news/arx-mentis-thaell-ew-heros-forge-armor. Both require progression, factioning and tradeskills OR raid prog to get, so not everyone has em.

Instancing is the big one for me. I have a wife and kids now and I'm 20 years older. I can't rationalize poop socking or 3AM bat phones anymore. Instancing allows me to still get my nostalgia pixel fix but in a scheduled, predictable, and responsible manner.

Live is also something I can share with my kids a lot easier. Watching my daughter create a dark elf necromancer, learn how to summon a pet, give her first pet a name, and then cheer for her pet the first time she sent it to kill a rat is one of the most heart melting things I've experienced as a dad. All she needed to find the guild master was the find command. I didn't have to explain sense heading, how to level sense heading, or how to use the /loc command which would have instantly turned her off the game.

They are old and clunky, they are outdated, and break often.

That is also the reason 10's of 1000's pay for live.

100% can and will happen.
The only thing that would stop me from doing so is if I was receiving money to both compensate the server costs and cover my bar tabs and psychology fees, so that I wouldn't even have to think about the goings-on of the server and just reap the influx of bronations. That one might hit a little close for these guys.
