My wife has active toons on Bristlebane. Now and then she asks me to take over for her when she needs to afk for a minute. Live and p99 aren't even close to the same game. Current live is closer to WoW or Rift than p99.

I tried once. All the classic targets were perma camped, empty as fuck everywhere else, everyone was 2-6boxing, entire zones were camped.

Then I logged on live and realized there are just way too many fucking buttons and many of them just not having a use anymore but i cant tell because its all fucking there like 5k AA points just thrown at me with no fucking manual.

I tried it a few times years ago. Rolled a magician and went to some old favorite zones. Got to around level 70 I think soloing. But when I hit the AA limit and zones I was unfamiliar with (basically anything past PoP) I quickly lost intrest as well as the scaling was starting to decimate my pets

You equipped your pets with the summoned gear, right? also tank mercs carry you to almost max level.

Empire of Kunark was fun. Old kunark zones and dungeons revamped to max level 105.

Then you get geared and realise your SK can AA / 2.0 epic click down 100+ mobs for a heap of aa in a single pull. Once you get raid loot and solo pretty much anything even without a merc in an expansion built around needing to group to do anything......gets a little stale.

Honestly, when a Shadowknight is the most op tank/dps and powerleveler in the game you need to quit.

Yeah, I see Roegan and Nilbog in the EQLive disc often, in addition to a few other GMs. Kinda fun, cause they're of course A-List celebs in our niche branch of Norrath, but over there a lot of people could care less. Probably a nice reprieve for them not having people barking LawyerQuest shite, or offering suggestions for CuStOm CoNtEnT 24-7.

Rn, I'm finding Live to be fun as hell. I think a lot of the hate it gets is from people who want their EQ simple. Personally, I love having a bazillion AAs, because it requires you to know which ones to pop - in conjunction with others - for certain encounters (not just raids). Many named, for example, have hilarious debuffs now. Some cause players to FD, for example, or the dreaded AoE Charm. Imagine if Naggy caused the MT to FD, and you had to actually think on your feet as a Magician to toggle pet taunt on, etc. and not just be a warmbody aDPS in your static pull-and-grind group. Or, if you had a mob that spawned adds that, if multiplied enough, turned into another boss. Shit's super fun after 8 years of Kunark and Velious, and never getting a damned Earth staff.

I mostly give it hate because of: Kronos, PoK ports, Bazaar, companions, graphics updates, aliens (lol luclin). I'm sure it's fun for some people, but unfortunately TLPs always eventually represent everything implemented that forced me to grow and hate the game, even if there is some good content in there.

I can't handle the non-classic zones and non-classic models. It's just not everquest to me, it's some weird new game I'm uninterested in.
I don't even use luclin models on takp.

I logged in a month or two ago for the first time in forever. Honestly some of the graphic changes and improvements were pretty cool. But I only logged on to perma camp my Original EQ main from 2000 out at Brad Mcquiads memorial. I wanted to see it.

Playing live doesn't interest me at all though tbh. Then again, I don't like traditionally MMO's

I played live through House of Thule, had a 90 SK. The only enjoyable parts of the game were as follows-

-Solo'ing Epic 1.5, Group-and-a-half'ing my 2.0 in Anguish.
-Powerleveling my high school buddy in Sebilis with AoE taunt and self damage shield plus his bard song.
-Soloing Trakanon, Tormax, Avatar of War, Tunare, CT, Innoruuk, Dain, Yelinak, Venril Sathir (if they were ever up). Mostly for funsies.

Gated progression content in the current expansions always felt like a chore. I had a purple lightsaber at one point?

Lol @ “nothing new” shade... this is a 21 year old game and some of y’all can’t get past the concept of warder loot... O.o

Fwiw tho, don’t knock it till you try it. If you can get past the fact that you have to do a lot more than the same 3 things over and over in a fight, it’s a lot more “bang for your buck.” Can log in, get a group, and get a lot of “hey I did something with my 60-120mins of playtime” in a way that I had just forgotten about after 8 years of heavy p99 addiction.

I've got a single level 50 on Aradune TLP I haven't played for a couple months. I'm considering transferring her to Mangler soon if that is also a "truebox" server that only allows 2-boxing w 2 different computers.

I'd really like to experience exp grinding and raiding in PoP again and I believe Mangler is in the PoP era now. Also, Extended KEI and high level hp buffs are fantastic for leveling if you don't want to box or can't always find/make a good group easily. I much prefer the bazaar to tunnelquesting. You CAN play w classic models on a TLP.

I played on the the TLP servers... I dont even remember which one, maybe it was Lockjaw? I made a monk and leveled to 50... Kunark droped and I think I made it to 55? The quality of life is great, leveling is fast, instanced raiding for your guild... its just not the same as P99 and it pretty quickly will reach the point of where you log in to raid and then there is nothing else to do outside of those few hours every week. They are not bad per se, but at that point you might as well go play WoW since its a better game and essentially the same thing.

I go through a phase every few years where I log into my three box and grind through the new content.

The biggest problem the game has these days is that they can't make content fast enough. If you box you can get through 99% of the group content of one expansion pretty easily in a few weeks. If you don't box you can do the same except you'll always be a few expansions behind.

I don't think the game is as bad as the too cool for school P99ers here think. It's not amazing but it can be pretty fun at times. Most people from P99 who try it will go to random Kunark and Velious zones and get unreasonably pissed that Defiant gear drops and that nobody is in these 20 year old zones. They can't seem to get over the fact that a game has had the audacity to adapt over the course of two decades.

No one expected the game to advance as it did when it was first designed so they didn't make it scalable. Then they started piling levels on and AAs and other shit to make it look like you had some kind of progression going. Your abilities now have abilities and you have to keep track of like three different kind of points it's ridiculous. The level and power spread is insane.

They never had the courage to just sit down and say look this is getting way out of control, let's re-do the character progression system to something that makes sense and is scalable. But they didn't want to upset the core so it is what it is. A giant mess.

You actually keep track of less on live because mq is a given. Set it and forget it.

AAs are a non issue. They come so fast you will be maxed out before you finish progression tasks from the past 7 expansions.

xp is 10x faster now on those servers, you can level to max on aradune in a couple weeks casually

most stuff is instanced so you will get all the stuff you want faster then you would think but its boring, no pvp and people are babies
