3v3 Team Test of Tactics

Denizens of Norrath, the time has come for you to prove yourself in the Arena. On Friday, July 31, 2020 at 8PM EST, the P99 Green community will be holding a 3v3 team PvP tournament. Sign up with your friends and fight for glory. This event is being supported by the P99 staff, with potential for GM rewards based on turnout.


Rules:
- One team of 3 players of any class makeup. Teams cannot have more than one of the same class. Additionally, each team is also allowed one coach, who may coach and provide strategy from the sidelines. Inter-guild teams are welcomed.

- The event will be held at the Arena, on the elevated platform.

- Competing teams will be debuffed before the match.

- Before matches start, there will be a 1 minute period to strategize and memorize spells, followed by a 30 second period for buffs and pet summons.

- Each match will last for a maximum of 10 minutes. Winners of matches that go the distance will be decided by judges. Cowardice is frowned upon. Bravery is rewarded.

- Detrimental spells cannot be cast during the buffing period.

- No clickies or consumables of any kind are permitted. This includes Jboots.

- The top of the throne, in the throne, or behind the throne is off limits to the combatants during the matches. The four firepots are also off limits to the combatants. Use of these areas in match combat will lead to contestants being disqualified.

- Starting positions are allowed anywhere that is legal (meaning not on the throne or in firepots) that is on your half of the tiles.

- We are allowing the use of rogue poisons, except for any that blind.

- The following spell types may not be used: Any form of Charm. Any form of Fear unless directed at a pet. Any type of Blind spells. Gravity Flux or Invert Gravity. Any type of gate or translocation spell (Example: shadow step).

- Any use of exploits or bugs will result in immediate disqualification from the event.


Prizes contributed by <Venerate>, <Fires of Heaven>, <Seal Team>, <Black Lotus>,<Kingdom>

- First Place Team: Bag of The Tinkerer, Swirlspine Belt, and 3K plat + ¼ of the entry fee money

- Second Place Team: Box of Abu-Kar, Black Sapphire Platinum Necklace, and 3K plat + ¼ of the entry fee money

- Third and Fourth Place Teams: 3K plat + ¼ of the entry fee money

Potentially additional GM rewards based on turnout.


Entry fee:
- 100pp per player and coach for each team that signs up at least 24 hours before the event starts.

- 200pp per player and coach for each team that signs up within 24 hours of the event.

In the event of a quake on Friday, the event will be moved to Sunday, August 2, 2020 at 5PM EST

Since I’ll be out of town and can’t compete, some things for the competitors:

-1 Ebolt will kill cloth casters
-since you can’t use pots, have a necro or sk on your team to dcloud your non-pet teammates once the fight starts to become unmezzable
-since you can’t use weeping wands, golem wands or pumice, have as many spell slots dedicated to pelling As possible
-you know how many ice comets can come from one bar of mana vs how many greater/sup heals
-6s is Almost always too long to spend casting a spell

Since it's classic you can probably do 2x caster pets + bard as well vs melee teams, although against other caster teams your pets gonna be CC'd.

needs to be disallowed for this to be fair.. currently in classic shuriken without buffs hits for 271 dmg (give or take). You have obviously been trying to buy them for awhile and have quite a bit saved up for this "event" you planned. Being able to throw them on casters for 271 dmg every 1.5 seconds is not an even playing field.

I feel like the best solution is the organizer should not be allowed to participate, it should be his sole job to run the event and be unbiased.

Especially since prizes are being donated by other guilds and it requires an entry fee.

Throwing boulders ruined the rogue BOTB on red99. Made me glad my rogue wasn’t 60 yet for that event as a human. Has nothing to do with skill as no one has a shitload of those farmed for world pvp, and just farms them for these events. I don’t begrudge the players, the rule should disallow for such items in these events. It removes skill and strategy from the equation and twists the class into a 1 dimensional ranger that is somehow better than the ranged slot specialist.

Same goes for the shurikens. Perhaps even worse since most people can’t ever acquire these and it turns the class into a broken throwing weapon class for these specific events, instead of using actual melee combat.


These should fall under the same category as golem wands/instant clicks and be banned or this tournament is a joke.

Are you allowed to memorize new spells after buffing, so long as you do not exceed the 30 second buff window? The sequence of memorize/strategy 60 seconds, followed by buffing 30 seconds, implies that you must balance the spell bar with both offensive spells as well as buffs?

Love that this event was put together and definitely plan to come watch, but I feel like those guilds should rethink the Shuriken decision. It really makes for way more boring matches as Shuriken users just decimate any non melee quickly without any real strategy going into it. IMO the event will be much more fun for everyone involved if they are disallowed.

No clickies of any type at all but let’s let rogues have access to slow, root, dots, DD, snare, stun all on poison resist check completely mana free mind you only limited by bag space which if smart will be 80 poison potions. Otherwise this looks awesome.

Greetings Norrath!

The day has come to face off in the 3v3 Team Test of Tactics tournament, and have some fun doing so. Come watch or participate at the Arena adjacent to Lake Rathetear, at 8PM EST. There will be prizes raffled off for both participants and spectators.

Please try to get there at least 30 minutes early. <Dial-A-Port> is aware of the event and will make efforts to have members online as early as 6PM EST to shuttle people. Feel free to reach out to them if you need a port.

There has been overwhelmingly positive reception to this event, and the initial brackets are already full, however we will be making every effort to squeeze in teams that still want to participate but have not yet registered.

I misread meathoook's response with shurikens.. apparently "he won't be using them" but can just as easily lend them to another guildie? You see the issue with them by you not using them yourself, why is it so difficult to not just ban them entirely? When the vote was made on banning the items, BL did not vote, and would like proof of the vote even happening? 272 dmg every 1.5 seconds on casters with no counter play is unplayable. There are enough issues with melee correctly jousting/being able to find hit box with ping; while using this you can easily hit from end to end on the arena platform every time.

You might not be using them yourself, but that won't stop you from giving a guildie your stockpile to use. Melee pvping in this game is hard enough; with ping and hit box timing for jousts or just meleeing in general. Casters will rarely land any spells at all. While monks who have been stockpiling these will auto win, except against other monk teams who did the same. It's 272 dmg roughly every throw that lands on a caster every 1.5 seconds, and can hit from anywhere on the platform. Boulders/Shurikens are literally the only "game breaking" non clicky items out, there is no reason to be worried about going down a rabbit hole on banning anything else. I didn't realize this was such a difficult decision to make?

It shouldnt be. Even if this is as close to the original pvp event from 20 years ago im sure they would have banned them back then if they had the knowledge we have today. The same way GMs nerf known bugs on the server today even if they want to stay as classic as possible.
The only way to counter this is being out of los from whoever is throwing and since running around the firepots and throne is forbidden it makes it really nearly impossible. I can only think of running around your own pet as a meatshield like a way to dodge it but with all the other things going on its not realistic.

I agree it would look bad if OP were to use them being the one arranging this and actively trying to buy them recently, but its still going to look bad if any monk using them are on the winning team. This thread has raised the awareness of the perks with the shurikens and im sure more monks are using them if OP doesnt disallow it.
