View Full Version : So we have Dial a Port

My baby cleric is now up to level 14. I can now bind, heal for 100HP and even have symbol. Currently unguilded but that may change. Heck, it's even crossed my mind to see if I can still run a guild (was GL back on Saryrn for a couple years).
My guild idea is to run something similar to DAP but instead call it something like Dial a Rezz.
Basically anybody with rezz capabilities is welcome to join. If you don't want to be bothered to rezz people while you're doing your own thing just do what DAP members do and go anon.
I know there would be a considerable number of people that would take advantage of this service. However would there be enough desire for rezzers to join a guild like this?
Thoughts?

Is that an actual guild that exists today or just your name suggestion?

Well really, you could just join Dial a Port. DAP already has a cleric bot army to rez people.
They also level chars/alts within the guild my druid is like a 5+ year member. Maybe not dial-a-rez, as this skews the who results of /who all dial. on green theres a guild dial a dad, dial a daniel, for whatever trolling reasons they wanted, also people make toons like Dialane, or Dialop, to further troll those looking for dial a port.
<Res-ur-rekt> is clever for a rez service guild.
But why stop there? make a guild that is utility service based. Ports, rezzes, buffs, necro sacs, jewelry, corpse drag/summons, one stop shop for player support.

dew it!
Dial a port has Clerics as well, but on blue specifically there is a dial a rez cleric guild. Not on green but again DAP has those too.

It's unspoken law that any un-anon cleric you see when you /who all 49-50 Cleric is more than likely available to rez for tip. Not sure you need a guild for it!

If you do start it, you may need to play around with the spelling. There was a similar guild on Blue, but I can’t remember if it was Rez or Rezz. If you weren’t the creator of said guild on Blue, you would need to spell it differently on Green.

Apparently this was tried on Blue and didn’t work very well. Not that I would mind if it worked out on Green for when I need rezzes!

If DAP had a shared, naked, cleric account to provide rezzes would be extra nice. Two members could really make big bank by porting the cleric around to all the locations rezzing people.
Or if <Res-ur-rekt> makes a deal with DAP to get the ports to where rez is needed could split the tip

or do like I did, level a necro, rogue and cleric. There is no corpse I can't get and rez.
Im going to warn you if your intending to make any cash on Rezzes, don't expect much. I have a DAP port guy and a Rezzing character, and you will likely get 5pp from most folks to maybe 20pp on average for a rez from the biggest baddest guilds here, and they will ask you to cross 5 zones a lot of times. Porting however is usually an expected pickup from a ring and you usually get 50pp as fast as you can port to the next place with unlimited requests. Rez money is inconsequential, port money is pretty unbeatable :p
Rezzing is mostly expected to be done out of kindness from folks because it happens after they've had a bad time. Porting is usually done more often for proactive good reasons so people dump cash on you in high spirits.

The problem is, what's the going rate for a rez in Permafrost?
versus... could I make that plat on my druid/wizard in 2-3 quick ports sitting in WC?

what the what, I was paying 200-300 plat per rez. The problem now a days is everyone expects free shit. Free Sow, Free Clarity, Free Ports and now Free Rez?!
When does it end. Someone is paying for it, they're the real norrathians. All these people who feel entitled to free stuff. *spits*
For real though, tip your porter, tip your rezzer. :)

Last time I got a rez in SolB the rezzer seemed pretty surprised when I forked over a 50pp tip. I would never in a million years play a cleric so I'm more than happy to pay the folks that do for their services.

Just thinking about it in terms of pph (plat per hour), and the going rate for ports (1 plat per level), I'm very surprised clerics don't get tipped for rezzes since the time it takes to make up that XP is at the very least comparable to the time it takes to cross between continents (including boat rides)... at least if they are requested. It's no guarantee that I have the plat on me, or the ability to get to a bank quickly if I get a rez out of the blue, but I'd wager that doesn't happen very often (though I'd probably jot the cleric's name down and try to find them at some future point to pay them back).
TLDR: I would tip a minimum of the going rate for ports for a rez.

Yeah exactly. On Green, people certainly aren’t forking over 100s of plat for a Rez. Why would I run a cleric from like EC to Splitpaw for 50pp? Not worth the time at all

This thread should be in an econ class somewhere ;)
You can have buyers/demand (people who need rezzes) and sellers/supply (rezzers) ... but if you can't create effective markets to link them (ie. a guild that the server will both use, and donate enough plat to, to make people actually want to join it) ... it doesn't how much of the former two things you have: it won't work.
DaP only worked because you have all three: the porters, the people needing ports, and enough plat flowing from the latter to the former to keep the system going (and keep people joining DaP).

Keep the comments coming everybody. Even though I've had several college level econ classes (along with accounting and other business courses) there's always something to learn.
My initial post was brought on because while xp'ing in OOT the dumbest luck ever hit. My pet was just about to finish off a gargoyle. A wizard ran past me. The gargoyle died, I ding then a quad of spec's comes right over top of me. Yep, dead gnome back in Freeport.
Wait a bit of time then get back on the boat. You can probably guess why I was hunting gargs....it's generally safe xp albiet a bit slow. Gargoyle eyes however are $$$. Get to my corpse, loot all but one non-essential piece of gear.
Start advertising 10 gargoyle eyes for a 90% rezz, will drag to you; no bites. Half hour later start offering 15 gargoyle eyes for a 90% rezz; still no bites. An hour after that offer a full stack of gargoyle eyes (this is over 200pp) for a 90%.
In the end I kept my gargoyle eyes and regained my level elsewhere.

Next time you might want to sell the eyes first (there are elf vendors on the isle across from the gargoyles): people tend to respond better to plat.
But also, you should always start with /who, because if there are no clerics (or high level paladins) in-zone, then you could offer even 1k plat for a rez and it still wouldn't matter (unless you're extremely lucky and someone has a pocket Cleric parked there).
If there's no one in-zone I'd instead try /who all cleric 49 60, or maybe start by checking zones where bored Clerics tend to hang out, like /who all cleric 49 60 commons. In my experience it might take a few tries, especially for a zone like OOT (where the Cleric has to wait for a boat) ... but if you offer 200+ plat you'll eventually find a broke-enough Cleric :)

I dont have a porting/rezzing class but...
yeah i hate people that pay peanuts for ports/rezzes, 5-20 plat isn't even worth replying to your tell for. If you pay 5-20 plat for a port/rez, just uninstall. If you think you are too broke to pay WELL for a service, then you are too broke to use said service. Go hop on a boat or eat your xp death like a man.
Having said that, heres the outline of the P99 player agreement that i made up just now.
Revere these words as law:
Sow: 5p
Clarity: 5p
Buffs: 5p per buff
Ports: 1 plat per your current level
Rezzes: 50% 1 plat per your current level, 90%+ 3 plat per your current level
(yes, your xp is worth the price for the time it cost to gain said xp, no we don't care that you are pissed because you couldnt solo 5 reds.)
This is the tipping scheme that i follow.
If i have to get a cleric to go from EC to kedge, i'll throw in an extra 50 for their port/travel time.
Those of you paying druids and clerics less than that for ANY service are really poor excuses looking for self entitled handouts.

I usually tell the porter that when we land, they /random 100 and that is their tip. Makes it a fun little game. I've been burned by guys rolling a 93, but I also recently got a port for 2pp.
I offered to let him roll again, but he was a good sport about it and said "Fair is fair." :)

See I actually am a porting class and don’t care what people tip. Certainly I don’t think anyone should be obligated to do 1pp per level. All I’m doing is sitting there watching TV or playing another game and clicking a button every couple minutes to teleport someone. I always laugh at posters who act live they’re providing some super strenuous service that they need to be gratuitously complimented for.

Are people really that cheap with clerics? My base tip is 1p/%, so I pay 50p for a 50% and 100p for a 90+% (rounded up) if they are in the zone. If they had to travel, I bump it higher to compensate. Seriously, I thought 50-100p was standard for rez tips. /boggle

I deeply apologize for cutting your post short,. but this is hella smart!
At least clerics could get something fair with this strategy.
96p for a 96% rez is beyond fair. Very smart

I mean, you're doing that and not doing anything for yourself. As easy as it may be, you're spending your time to help me: why wouldn't you expect compensation for that?
Maybe tips are lower on Green, but if anyone expects other players to spend their time clicking them around for no benefit on any server ... I expect to think they're an asshole.
Now that doesn't mean I always charge for ports on my Druid. When I have 50k+ plat in the bank, I don't need some level 40 character's 25 plat, so I might refuse the tip ... but I absolutely expect that player to offer it (modulo CRs and other extenuating circumstances).

Pro tip:
the services are not strenuous, you tip well because that is just good business. People remember your names. If you tip like shit, ever wonder why it takes so long to find a port?
Also i like to tip, because i know people get bad tips, even IRL restaurant, barber etc. So when a porter gets 100 plat or I tip the server 50%, it just brightens their day a little. maybe even restores a little faith in humanity...
Just the tip!

I prefer the "don't bug somebody else to fix my screw-ups" mentality. If I wanted to port around all over I'd be playing my druid or Wiz. If I wanted Rez on demand I'd be playing my cleric. I play a slow, weak Necro that runs everywhere she needs to be and when she dies (quite often, I suck) I grab my crap and go try again. Only time I ask for SoW is if I have a long run back to my corpse, and even then most times I'm somewhere that druids are not, so suck it up Buttercup and get to hoofin it.
Oh and.. WTB SoW pots..
