View Full Version : The Manadance™ (Video)

First things first:
OOM = bad vibes
FM = good vies
This ain't your grandfather's Cannidance, okay?
The Video: https://streamable.com/hzj1qj
The Numbers:
On my 39 druid Rallospeck with ~1350 mana
Sitting with max med skill at 39 = 16 mana/tic
The Manadance™ can get you about ~67 mana/tic (2 x 100hp heals --> 200hp of manastone = ~67 mana)
The Manadance™ ~4x faster @ 39 --> medding = 8 minutes OOM to FM, The Manadance™ = 2 minutes OOM to FM (took me 3 minutes in video due to slower internet connection (NPCs slower to accept items) and misclicks)
Insights:
This COULD be your grandfather's Cannidance (The Manadance™ (Remix)) where you sit for med tics. Could be a future video, but the point of this video was to show the basic step, not the advanced technique. You only need to stand briefly for instaclicks (Manastone & Ring)
Mana pools outpace the med skill. At 60 in Kunark/Velious your manapool may be 3k but you only get 21 mana/tic from max med skill at 60. This would mean 14 minutes of sitting to go OOM -> FM, which makes The Manadance™ even more attractive in Kunark/Velious.
How to Become a Manadancer™ in 4 Steps
Buy The Manastone™ if you can even find one for sale - probably have to talk to the Man(nastone) himself. 200k, ya hear?!
Find out if you are [one with the wall] (http://wiki.project1999.com/Wall_Squad_Ring). If not, first mend your relationship with the Guardians of the Vale using this [one easy trick] (http://wiki.project1999.com/Bandages_for_Honeybugger).
Make sure you're amiable to the Priests of Mischief and if not, [run a few errands] (https://wiki.project1999.com/Cleric_Supplies) to build a relationship with the freakiest Manadancer™ in the club, Hendi Mrubble.
Wizards: bind at Hendi (that's what my DE wiz does.) Druids: bind at Hendi or self port into Misty. Other classes can do, but you'll need a Druid to get you there.
Become a Manadancer™ today!

That ring is cute. I remember trying to spam the recharge quest to solo priest of discord in Rivervale.
Didn't work.

You can also use it at level 30 by aggroin a level 20 rogue mob and spam ring to max your defensive skillups. Works super well for toons (especially casters) who did a lot of exp quests 1-20 or 1-30.

Didn't work. Could try getting a bunch of buddies to roll level 1 halflings and do the quest. A 50 mage pet with DS and 100hp heals spammed from 6 little halflings could work. I'd love to try this. I got a 50 mage =)

The best thing about being a druid or wiz in the first place is leveling all by yourself in one spot, never zoning until you need to bank/sell, and going afk/tabbed out every quad to do more interesting things while you med. Pass.

The best thing about being a druid or wiz in the first place is leveling all by yourself in one spot, never zoning until you need to bank/sell, and going afk/tabbed out every quad to do more interesting things while you med. Pass. If you can regen mana you need to hold a camp, it's not necessary. If you're porting a lot (<Dial a Port>) or quadding, it's a good option. But I feel the sentiment.
Castle2.0 is so hot right now. Thanks ;)
Faction hit is pretty massive for the "am I one with the wall".
knocked my faction down from warmly all the way to apprehensive.
And it will take about 16 backpacks to go from deep into scowling to warmly if anyone is interested, and warmly is what is required for the ring. Probably around 5 if you are near indif.

Misty ring is only 40 seconds + RV zoning time away.

I went and dumped a bunch more bandages to get back to warmly on my wiz, but it wasn't necessary. I think I left my druid at apprehensive since I don't need higher.
Another note on faction: Reebo Leafsway is a druid that runs back and forth from dru to cler guild. If you are threateningly or KoS, I'd suggest turning in DF belts in Misty to get that dubious or better faction. My DE wiz is dubious - didn't take too many belts.

I really admire what castle is doing! I think experiencing all these classic power plays is exactly what green is for, one day there will be a guide for people to follow to get a taste of every nerfed exploit during the timeline, and it will be called The Castle.
Edit: Ps castle, you really need to get a 3rd one in there, a 3rd one would really round out the sigs.. what should it be though

I had "Largest Sole Proprietor of Red Wood Wands" but ... ya know... that story...
My self-imposed criteria for sig-wag is pretty intense. No easy answers.
At least slightly pretentious
Must provoke strong emotions and/or eye rolls and.or be amusing
Must make an (optionally) obnoxious and (potentially) debatable claim to something unique
Or at least push an agenda (sell this, vote this, like this, share this, etc.)
Must portray myself and my toon in the best possible light (in elf terms) that can shine through a basement egress window
All of the above?
More criteria. Just off the top of my head.

Wow, no one has ever made this claim before! ZzZzZ.
So when kunark shows up no one is going to be leveling characters from 1-60 anymore, huh? And druids and wizards cease to exist?
Heck, as far as leveling goes, you could even ague that kunark/velious are going to be a huge boon for manastone usage, as the old world will have less people competing for mobs.

Can roll wizard, or just turn in bandages on your druid to get the faction, dont you have a Dru on Green?
My favorite sourgrapes dichotomy of posts:
It's broke!
It's too much of a hassle
I guess it could be broke and a pain in the butt to do, but then it's only broke for the hardcore, the elite, the crème de la crème, with mad sexy dance moves.
What's awesome about the Manadance™ is it makes everyone a'movin and a'shakin. The Manadancers™ are dancing and the wallflowers are shakin' because it makes 'em pure jelly ;)
To the sourgrapes crowd turned pure sour-grape-jelly, all I gotta share a few key facts:
P99 players only care about keeping dem good vibes, good vibes in the air
So I threw down this knowledge to make em feel good, even if it it's mainly for every Wizard and Drood
Put that Rock in your primary slot and don't take it easy
You can get out of this club if you don't feel me
You can give up your sour grapes post, aint no stopping, everyone on this server is down with this Rock
Imma say 'Booyah'
*crowdsurfs back to the center of the throng and keeps Manadancing™*
I'm just being matter of fact about this: you're so keen on selling it that I want it less ;D
At most i'd probably go 50k right now for it based on how hard people are trying to hock them.. and I think that would be on a good day.
The problem is that there's so many people I know who want to sell it that I could just find that person really quick. It's going to go through that big price nosedive later this year too (about the time the abu boxes go up for a short time) before it slowly goes up a little in the velious era but in the end there's just so damn many of them.
but that's how prices work I guess, if people are trying so hard to sell nobody's going to want to buy it ;P
Ya that big nosedive like the ones for 800k on blue.
Ya that big nosedive like the ones for 800k on blue.
Oh you replied to me quick before I decided I sounded too antagonistic.
Though I consider 800k on blue to be about 82500 on green today.
This is just a dirty crunch of server life multiplier versus/divided player retirement estimate combined by populations to start
I think at the end of green i'd call around 310k Green to blues 800k, if I just assume population holds steady, which is too soon to call. Then if the merge happens.. well jeez that's gonna be confusing, but the active manastones on active players will be way up.

If this were not something that they should be proud of, the wiki wouldn't exist! Now, go put it on the wiki, so when people figure it out after uncovering some weird google chat or dead forum post from 11 years ago, or they get so immersed they discover the ONCE SECRET cool SECRETS of everquest, you can roast them because now suddenly apparently these secrets that you once worked so hard to put into the wiki are NOT COOL anymore because everyone knows about them.... ironically pointed out by the guy flooding the wiki with spoilers.

Ok, I should have qualified my statement a bit more: there is some strategy/tech discussion here also; it's not pure back-patting. And I do respect strategy/tech discussion!
But at the same time, I respect "cheat discussion" the least out of all such talk. It's like talking about the cool new technique you found to press UP UP DOWN DOWN LEFT RIGHT LEFT RIGHT B A B A START extra quickly. Like yes, it is cool, and yes, it is part of playing Contra ... but compared to discussions about how to jump better, or how to shoot better, or how to play the game without cheats better ... talking about how to best use a cheat (that the devs deliberately left in the game for you to use to make the game easier) is in my book the lowest form of "theorycrafting".
You're welcome to disagree that manastones are similar to the Konami code, but as deliberate dev-introduced "ways to make the game easier than intended" they seem fairly analogous to me. Even so though, I do have significantly more respect for Castle posting about his clever trick than for the majority of posts here. It is clever and it is theorycrafting.

Root nets recharged, ever use those? Cheater.
In fact you ever recharge anything? Cheater.
Get agro with a clicky? Cheater.
Cani dance? Cheater.
Corpse a no rent item? Cheater!
Click an item from your inventory not intended for your class? Cheater.
Kite a mob? Cheater. (was an exploit never even known about until launch)
Aoe a mob with a bard? cheater.
Heal on rez? Cheater.
Call of hero to pull a mob? Cheater.
Kill, the unkillable? (https://kotaku.com/the-surprising-and-allegedly-impossible-death-of-everqu-1785741600#:~:text=On%20November%2017th%2C%202003% 2C%20Rallos,heavily%20on%20SOE's%202003%20servers. ) GODS AMONG MEN?! (nope, cheaters).
Wearing lustrous russet armor? Cheater lol!
Everything in everquest is cheating, that's what makes it so great, its not cookie cutter! You can have an entierly different, and equally challanaing experience after playing this game for 20 years! That's because of exploits!
I play because of the cool tricks grand masters did when I was a kid. And 20 years later now I have the time, and the opportunity to try them!
It's the most realistic simmulator a game has ever created, it's just like real life, know how to flip a house? Great you'll be rich! Don't? Oh well, watch people get rich while you struggle farming wisps!
I find it really annoying you always say this in every thread that is about an amazing mechanic disocvered by a grand master at everquest, posted by a new grand master at everquest...
...while you would spend all your free time, filling out guides so people can cheat their way to 60 without experiencing everquest, discovering, or learning anything on their own.
There is nothing more cheater, than reading about how to spawn a mob, where to find an item and where to exp and make plat at the same time, from a guide.
Edit: but that said, (again I know I've said most of it to you before) thank you for giving castle the praise he deserves, because he's making classic everquest happen! :o

No, all the things you listed were "accidental features": they weren't intended, but the devs did decide, intentionally, to keep them in the game. The mana orb was a mistake, and Verant intentionally removed it before the game had even been out a year.

I <3 cool tricks too ... but tell me, what exactly is the "cool trick" to knowing that an item was removed for being too powerful over 20 years ago, and then clicking a box and not playing EverQuest for days straight to get it? There's none: it's the Konami code, something anyone can do, with zero cleverness, to make the game easier.
Yes, EQ is all about the clever use of things in unintended ways, and Castle's recharging trick was clever ... but the item itself literally required the opposite of cleverness to obtain: to click all those AFK checks to obtain it you had to turn your brain off for days at a time, instead of using it to play ;)
P.S. And to be clear, I don't in any way begrudge Castle or anyone else their orb! I legit wish I'd turned my brain off and gotten one instead of waiting a week and having Teal merge! But even if I had one, and I used the hell out of it ... which I would ... it'd still be (like the Konami code) an easier way to play that doesn't require cleverness.

All of the things I listed, are things that were eventually nerfed, because they were broken, and game breaking.
All of them are enjoyable features that make up the universe of everquest, you cant change that they existed and therefore they are a part of everquest.
Think of it like, advanced cani dancing. I bet you worked really hard at that? I bet you were prety proud of yourself when you figured it out and got good at it? And guess what, there is no difference in that and what you're shaming here.
Everything on my list, obtaining those items, figuring out how to use them correctly, is 100% exactly as you put it:
getting better at jumping in everquest.
Figuring out how to speed up your mana-regen as a druid with an item, that very few people are comfortable using let alone understand, on this server 10 years later, is 100%, getting better at jumping in this game.
, and then clicking a box and not playing EverQuest for days straight to get it? There's none: it's the Konami code, something anyone can do, with zero cleverness, to make the game easier.
You didnt know about this, you would have never ever ever known about this, until this thread.
Some of us spend literally months reading old user group message boards and crap to figure this crap out and its quite rewarding and fun!
What isnt rewarding is going to dublew doublew doublew dot name of mob dot com to find out where and when they spawn.
You're like crapping on the many bothan spies who died to bring the rebels info about the deathstar, because you just heard the info and are leaning over to the guy next to you and saying "wtf they die getting that info for? Those idiots lol! Everyone in this room knows about it, they didn't need to die to get it."

If clerics didn't have complete heal,I'm pretty sure manastone would have never been nerfed/removed as a drop. But these are the same fucking morons who gave torpor to a class that already had a built in manastone in their class kit, so who really knows. Their nerfs/changes were always schizophrenic once they started reflexively nerfing shit due to people crying on the forums, 99% of which had no fucking idea what they were talking about. They nerfed necromancers every patch for a year or more and buffed enchanters at last every other patch, that's why today we still have people who are confused why enchanters seem to be "overpowered" on p99.

The fact that 90% of the playerbase still thinks the manastone isnt worth it after kunark is just a prime example of how there is still a lot of skill to be uncovered by a lot of players.

Look, let's not go crazy here: I'm not in anyway saying Verant devs were perfect! To the contrary, they made tons of poor decisions.
Literally all I'm saying here is that clicking a box not playing EverQuest for days at a time is not, in any way cleverness: it's the exact opposite. Using an item removed from the game (even by those flawed devs) for being powerful is not clever: it's doing the most obvious thing you can possibly do!
Again: I personally would have done that thing! I'm not judging people for having or using manastones! All I'm saying is that, their use is not clever, and when someone finds a tangential "non-cheat" technique (like recharging that ring) which is clever ... that cleverness is tainted by it's reliance on "cheat mode".

Honest question: when someone does something cool in Contra with the three starting lives, are you more or less impressed vs. when they do it with Konami code? When someone on P99 get their items from someone else (RMT or twinked by a friend) instead of earning them, are you more or less impressed vs. when they earn them?
When someone does something else that involves not playing EverQuest, but makes playing Everquest easier ... something the game's makers removed because it made it too easy ... are you more or less impressed vs. when someone does something clever by actually playing the game?

When someone does something else that involves not playing EverQuest, but makes playing Everquest easier ... something the game's makers removed because it made it too easy ... are you more or less impressed vs. when someone does something clever by actually playing the game?
I seriously think you should try to obtain a manastone so you might be able to understand why you are so increidbly wrong comparing it to a cheat code in contra.
I mean I dont want to sound harsh but you didnt even know what a sarnak battle shield is, seriously question, do you really think you have a right to be so convinced that your right about this? :o
Edit: I just get mad at you loramin because your main argument is "their use is not clever"
Yes it is, it is super clever, you would never ever eeeeeeeeeeeever have figured the OPs trick out if you played this game for 80 years. Ive worked my ass off to min max that stone and I never thought of this!
I bet you'd hold it and be like, "I dont get it, this isnt that much faster at all." Ive seen people use these things for years like complete idiots. I was like that for a looong time too until someone manapilled me and blew my mind deep in a guk dungeon once long ago.
Figuring out how to use the manastone, especially after it gets nerfed, is an amazing feat and its something that you just should try to learn about and understand..
because it's magic and magic is cool.

Look, it literally doesn't matter what I write, because you don't read it. I've said multiple times in this thread that the ring recharge was clever. Less clever because it requires a cheat, but still clever.
I don't know how many more times I have to say it to get through to you, but I'm not going to waste my "breath" trying to find out. Meanwhile, when I ask you direct questions (eg. is RMT less impressive than not RMT?), you ignore them and attack me personally.
Keep arguing with the voices in your head, but I'm here for conversations with people, so I'm out.

You're comparing the manastone use as a blanket to using a cheat code, then asking me if it's less cool because someone uses one in contra?
Im sorry if I cant read your backflips here, I know you said the ring uses was clever, but you're saying here flat out the manastone is a cheat, and im telling you
to use it to gain any amount of mana over just sitting there and meditating, requires that you are clever.
But you just say that using it and clicking it is cheating. Which is 100% wrong.
So dont get upset with me man, you're the one not reading my posts mr accuser pants.

Heres an answer to your honest question, that I find so loaded that it's not honest at all... :o
If the cool thing they are showing me is
1. beating the game without dying
2. speed running the game
3. playing the game
I do not care if they ahve 24 lives
if they are showing me they can beat the game in under 3 lives, but died 23 times, then NO obviously I wont be impressed.
If someone is showing me everquest and is like
Hey check me out Im a wizard combing my manastone to kill shot the mob when the tank is at 1%!
Im a cleric geting runed by an enchanter during a tough battle
My druid binds and ports out during an epic pull to reup and gates in for the clutch final heals
Then f@#%k yeah I will be impressed if they tell me they do any of that with a "cheat code"!
I just dont see how dying to all of those things is better everquest because you didnt have a manastone + the brains to use it and the quick thinking to pull it out at the right time. :o

Loramin, if you think manastone is like a cheat code, just wait til my 50 mage pet tanks and kills Priest of Discord in Rivervale with the help of 5-11 gearless (except for a ring slot) level 1 halflings. Cumulative level kill on PoD of 55-61 levels in Vanilla classic - when you put it that way, it's kinda cool.
*rubs hands together*
I just want to make something novel out of a game that has lost its novelty. It's my way of reclaiming some nostalgia by discovering new things in a game that has been fully(?) discovered. A game I had so much fun discovering things in, but truly am reaching the upper limit of what I can "discover" due to playing so many years and all the information available.
Doing something new in a game where it's "all been done before" is a fun game in and of itself. See the thread of "Which race/class combo would you be impressed most with at max level." Widespread general sentiment: none, it's all been done before.
Well, I got a few things left on my list of things that have (probably?) never been done before. Stay tuned.
Soloing Tantor in Velious with Red Wood Wands is off my list now unfortunately =( Only possible via bard now and bard could kill faster with chant kite, and it's a one-shot ordeal with no recharge... But like I said... stay tuned.

I enjoy things like this immensely. People who say everything in this game has already been discovered amaze me, there's a lot of cool stuff still to do here. I have a list of stuff I've never seen anyone try that I'm slowly working through, its basically why I play.
I'm actually kind of surprised noone seems to be doing 5 cleric+wizard bind at zoneline in velious, port out do a group cheal chain to regen to full mana and gate back. With faster zone load times, I feel like you could probably go infinite 2 second cheal chain easy with two groups like this. Three groups could honestly probably do Avatar of War if the chain was perfect. I guess there just aren't that many manastones on blue though.

I can confidently say my manastone will sell for 200k and summon corpse will never sell for 300k.
Only real buyers are guilds who can go the distance in PoSky and all of those guilds have a necro @ camp on list.
Might be able to sell for 5k to a casual who wants to complete their spell set.

Cute, but generally not useful. You either have to be fighting somewhere that's close to a port-in and where your camp won't be taken (so maybe a casual group in Kael Drakkel, Velks, Sol B, or City of Mist at the point in the timeline when Emerald Jungle port gets easier), or you have to bind where you're fighting and then port out and run to Rivervale every time you want the heal. Generally you don't want to change your bind point like that, but for Druids/Wizards who are willing to, this certainly does give them more power, so that's cool.

It could be used for non-porter class, but it's only super useful for porters, especially druids.
Doesn't work a solo with a camp, but I could see it working in an outdoor zones or with duos/trios on camps where 1 of the 2 or 3 people is a druid.
When Kunark hits and there are more camps for exp and loot, I could see a druid quad kiting seafuries. Already see some druids doing it now at off times. Port out, manadance, gate back to island, repeat.
Could work for any place a druid can quad kite. Maybe spirocs in Timorous.
I could also see a Dark Elf wizard doing it at 51 with 51 AOE in Gfay on guards. Quad kite guards, gate to dance club and start a dance dance revolution, self port gfay spires, repeat. This is exactly what my DE wiz with a manastone is gonna do.
You're almost 1k posts. Early congrats.

Quadding guards or some random trash in an area where you are willing to bind yourself could be a thing, but the other quadding spots are highly contested and the issue is usually having enough things to kill, not lacking mana.
I mainly admire the extra power this potentially gives Druids for grouping, and the tourism to Misty Thicket and Rivervale it could create, LOL. Although I hate that it's because of an exclusive item and makes you jump through hoops, instead of playing the game as it's meant. Big immersion breaker, tedious gameplay. Still, a Druid with this mana availability could become a viable healer for some high level groups where they otherwise wouldn't have been. That's nice to think about, they deserve it.
Can casters bind in The Hole? I can't remember, don't think I ever tried myself. It wouldn't be too bad to bind yourself at safe spots there for a group, porting out as needed to get mana faster, so that your group doesn't have awful downtime because of you lacking the efficiency of a Cleric c-heal or a Shaman slow.

You have no idea what you're talking about (which banned person are you, btw). I stopped playing a month after I got my epic because there was very little PvP happening and I didn't have any desire to do PvE. I was always one of the most PvP-centric players on the server, even when I was completely undergeared (actually, I was always relatively undergeared). When I came back to the game, I literally made the highest number of PvP kills in Empire before I quit again, and that's with other people having a head start on me, since the ladder had already reset before I returned.

Plane of Mischief for a Druid is also a possible way to get usage out of the trick. It does become harder to keep a pet while doing it, being able to Charm there is the nice perk Druids get, but it's possible I guess. Your group would just need to keep the pet rooted every time you gate out to go get mana back. Some extra work for them, but depending on the group, still would be better for productivity.

If you've got a big mana pool and aren't a wiz/dru/cler there is a gold for heals quest in Erudin. I guess it depends on your mana pool. Could be a good option for a shaman without Torpor.

Outside of regaining mana instantly as much as you want it's pretty useless. I'll include the long list of all the items across every expansion that can do the exact same thing.
