View Full Version : Potatus's Warrior Questions

Hail! I have questions about weapons, aggro, and gear. Feel free to answer all or only some of them.

1. Kicsh Der Pavz (http://wiki.project1999.com/Kicsh_Der_Pavz) or Obsidian Shard (http://wiki.project1999.com/Obsidian_Shard) in mainhand for maximum aggro generation?
Mainhand swings proc twice as much as offhand swings, and the Kicsh has a better aggro proc. Also, the Kicsh has a better ratio (10/38 versus 6/25), but a long delay of 38...I'm not sure what to think. I have been mainhanding the Kicsh and offhanding the shard.

2. Should I put my higher-aggro proc weapon in mainhand or offhand?
One fellow warrior told me that because the offhand swings less often (true), and procs are calculated on a procs-per-minute basis (true), that weapons will proc relatively more often in the offhand (false) so I should offhand my Kicsh. He's wrong, right? Surely proc chance is calculated based on weapon delay, without taking into account the fact that Dual Wield might not go off. And offhand procs half as often as mainhand anyway. Right??

3. Crafted Breastplate (http://wiki.project1999.com/Crafted_Breastplate) versus Enameled Black Chestplate (http://wiki.project1999.com/Enameled_Black_Chestplate) (25ac) versus Rubicite Breastplate (http://wiki.project1999.com/Rubicite_Breastplate) (19ac 3hp regen)?
My current plan is to keep wearing the Rubi til I hit 50, then swap to Crafted. However, it's difficult to weigh the Rubi's 3 hp regen, EBC's 3 more ac, and Crafted's 5sta and 25hp.

4. Should I buy a Diamondine Earring or try to farm one?
~1200p or who-knows-how-many-hours in there, with no guarantee of Lasna dropping the earring, or even spawning at all. I had a group in the pool room for a couple hours today and we didn't see her. I'm leaning toward buying one (pm me).

5. Does Princess Cherista also drop the Diamondine Earring, or only Lasna?
The earring's wiki page (http://wiki.project1999.com/Diamondine_Earring) only lists Lasna, but Princess Cherista's wiki page (http://wiki.project1999.com/Princess_Cherista) says she drops it.

Q1+2

How much dps aggro are you generating with a 10/38 in your offhand on a mob where you don't proc? (not much)

I'd main the Kicsh and OH the Shard...or at least test both and see what seems to be performing better.

Q3

HP regen isn't your problem as a group tank, a cleric would prefer you had the STA/HP for the most effcicient complete heals (which will do more in 10 seconds than your rubi BP will do in an hour)...plus there's the tinfoil/debate around the accuracy of how good AC really is on P99.

If you're really min/maxing then switch to rubi during med time/pauses in pulls.

Q4

Buy one if you can think of a way to beat the average time it would take to farm 1200pp another way.

Not sure on 5 :p

Just my thoughts of course, other opinions available :)

What level is this for? 50ish?

I think your companion might have been trying to explain how the off hand can proc even when it fails to produce a swing. This means at poor duel wield skill you will get a lot of procs relative to swings, but this is really only relevant at the lower levels.

It’s hard to value the regen vs mitigation, but I like the crafted breastplate as it showcases your class. The rubicite may be worth it for fashion / pixel envy purposes.

If you want it immediately the buy it. If you want adventure try get one yourself. It’s a decent earring until cougar claw / orc fangs fill it’s niche (velious).

1. Main hand kisch is pretty terrible white damage, I'd imagine it's good if you get a proc quick, but pretty useless until the proc. I'd play around with it, but decent dps + proc is a lot more consistent than relying solely on procs.

3. Rubi bp is 30 hp per minute. Hard to say what 3-5 AC nets per minute via mitigation, but likely less than 30. 5 sta + 25 hp is 45 hp max, which means you are netting up to an extra 45 hp per CH or other heal that would otherwise cap you out, the frequency of which is definitely less than once a minute. I think it's hands down rubi BP unless you're main tanking a raid boss or something and getting CH'd like crazy.

4) Buying them is faster unless you can easily farm them on another character and get a little lucky. As an alternative, platinum bloodstone earrings will net you more HP for cheaper.

FOR LEVEL 50 ONLY:

Mainhand
Kicsh Der Pavz baseline 4.73 aggro damage per second (without proc)
Obsidian Shard baseline 5.60 aggro damage per second (without proc)

Off-hand
Kicsh Der Pavz 2.63 aggro per second maximum (without proc)
Obsidian Shard 2.40 aggro per second maximum (without proc)

This is just assuming the +8 damage bonus on mainhand. I'm probably wrong for some reason, but i'd be going with Obsidian Shard mainhand, Kicsh offhand at level 50 even considering procs

White damage or bust; procs are not to be relied upon for aggro.

stats and +hp over the weird ac mechanics, and rubi when you can fit it in for the regen.

and if you really want those earrings just say so ;p; I'd camp that for you any time.

Swish crushed it outta the park.

If I may debate you (thank you both for replying): Sure, swing aggro is more consistent. However, if I went full white-aggro with my 7/21 and 8/23 weapons AND spammed Kick and Disarm, but another character had even better weapons/damage (say, a rogue), I would never have aggro except right after a taunt. The only way I can hold aggro over an equally-or-better-geared rogue or DPS class is with procs (and Evade isn't in the game until Paineel). Being top aggro sometimes is better than never.

Or am I wrong?

And if that's true, then the thing to do as a warrior is maximize proc chance, which means use two proc weapons. Until Yaks, that's Shard+Kicsh.

I look forward to hearing more. Also, paging Naethyn, Raev/Sakuragi, other warriors on the forums (forum-warriors not so much).

Wowwwww nice! Good info. Thank you, Cen. Potatus is 40, but it's good to know that by the time he's level 50, shard/kicsh is better.

At 40, the mainhand damage bonus is 5...How do I find that chart of weapon aggro?

Videri

When Paineel comes out, the rubicite BP is going on my cleric, along with my manastone; so Potatus only has it til September or whatever it turns out to be.

At level 50, the Crafted BP should give him about 47.5 hp, compared to the Enameled Black Chestplate's extra 3 ac...I'm not sure why I didn't see that from the start, since we know the HP formula (http://wiki.project1999.com/Game_Mechanics#Hitpoint_Calculation). Clearly going Crafted.

^^^^^^^^^^ professional advice from swisharu 11/9 i wanted to basically give same advice last night but didn't want to be accused of posting for attention

Also, i am pretty sure if u have a weapon with a proc rate it doesn't care about offhand, mainhand, whether dw swings or not, just dex, maybe. But we don't really kinow cuz its r99

on blue my choky whip procs crazy good in my offhand, and so does my other cool dagger toys at a pathetic 95 dex

for those of you debating on mh the kisch vs the dagger

20/38 + str bonus's for kisch in mh vs 12/25 + a little less str bonus (maybe like 1 point cuz delay?) if that for white dmg on obsidian dagger, those ratios are in miliseconds so if you are elite you will divide by 20/3.8 and 12/2.5 for *5.263157894736842‬ vs 4.8‬ 'potential' white dmg

you will obviously hit more often with the obsid dagger, but the kisch is technically superior, especially with high ATK on lower conning mobs. It will pretty much max hit.

You can look at the white dmg in your window and find out the max hit for each weapon in MH to get precise numbers.

your offhand ratio is going to be the 2.631578947368421‬ vs 2.4‬ numbers, kisch is the clearly superior weapon. Go with swisharu on this he is ballin it with the megadunks.

Cen clearly is just cutting and pasting from the wiki and lacks a genuine understanding of the way of the blade. This isn't a trollololol. Just a fact.

Per the Wiki: (http://wiki.project1999.com/Game_Mechanics#Weapon_Proc_Rates)
The rough formula is (DEX/170) + 0.5 = proc per minute rate for main hand, and offhand is half that rate.

Professional warrior here

You wont proc enough to actually hold aggro before high 50s with massive dex buffs. Make your group use root and stand closest

For gear max hp and sta, ac a close second

magnetaress

^^ good to know! in that case the kisch proc is superior hate IMO... though that dagger proc is also pretty good... I have no idea. Both those weapons are extremely close in agro. Mobs really hate ac/stat debuffs, it doesnt take much for my necro to pull with enfeablement...

any haste at all will benifit the kisch more as it is multiplicative... 3.8 - (3.8 x .21) vs 2.5 - (2.5 x .21) for the delays. So if hasted the kisch gets a bit more oomfph than the lower delay dagger.

Noted. Thanks for weighing in. My Halfling warrior procs pretty reliably...do you still recommend relying on root whenever possible?

And with regard to weapons, remember, folks, that mainhand procs twice as much as offhand. So it's still worth considering putting the Kicsh in mainhand because its proc is greater aggro than the Obsidian Shard's proc. It's a little weird that we're comparing the white-damage aggro of two weapons with garbage ratios. Shouldn't we be comparing their proc aggro versus the white-damage aggro of a 7/21 and an 8/23 (Electrum-Bladed Wakizashi and Polished Steel Dirk)?

And let's remember that haste does not affect proc rate (more haste, same procs-per-minute).

makes sense, TIL a lot about proc rates, cool

Have someone root the mob and then cast a high aggro spell. You can taunt to piggy back off their aggro and hopefully use that to stay ahead of the rogue until the mob dies. I find it also helps to hit taunt and kick each time a backstab is attempted or high aggro spell lands.

Good tips!

I am still interested in hearing from max-level warriors experienced in raiding for tips on prioritizing weapon choices! Whether I get mobs rooted for me or not, I still want to optimize my Pri and Sec!

6. Hooded Black Cloak (http://wiki.project1999.com/Hooded_Black_Cloak) or Cloak of Shadows (http://wiki.project1999.com/Cloak_of_Shadows) on a Halfling warrior?
13 dex and 2 extra AC for procs, or 45 hp and 5 more str? If he's tanking, he'll be getting heals, so does 45hp matter that much? If he has 13 more dex and procs that much more often, mobs will die faster, and he'll be fine. Right?

magnetaress
04-28-2020, 06:30 AM
You could use both. That +sv is nice but not super... On it's own.

Ghoul roots still a disease check?

The str will probably net better white dmg then the Dex procs.

45 hp stacks well towards a big hp pool and ch becoming more efficient.

You won't notice 2 more ac with all the ac you're probably already wearing.

Potatus, my warrior is in this exact same situation. Can I get some advice from you? How have you found things? What do you think is best? Thanks

When I'm grouping with characters lower level than I am, or when my weapons are better than the other melees in the group, I put on my Electrum Bladed Wakizashi 7/21 and Polished Steel Dirk 8/23 and hold aggro pretty consistently. I know about those two because I saw Mubbens using them.

When I am grouping with melee classes that are higher level than me, or with melees that have much better weapons, they easily hold aggro over me, even when I use my best-ratio weapons (7/21 and 8/23). However, when I use proc weapons, I can hold aggro, even over melees that hit a lot harder than I do. If they don't proc, I don't get aggro (so we're in the same position as above); if they proc once or especially 2+ times, aggro is just locked the rest of the fight. "Often" is better than "never."

Obsidian Shard + Kicsh Der Pavz has been great. I've tried each one in mainhand and I can't feel the difference. Someone posted that the swing aggro is greater with Shard mainhand and KPD offhand at level 50; problem is, I think the KPD proc is much bigger aggro, which means I want it in mainhand (because, as we know, weapons in mainhand proc twice as often as same weapon in offhand).

I actually feel like if I were to rank the weapons in terms of aggro, just based on how it feels:
1. Kicsh Der Pavz, esp if I have dex buffs - the proc locks aggro super hard
2. Polished Steel Dirk
3. Electrum Bladed Wakizashi (I mainhand it because it has a lower delay)
4. Shard (absolute garbage for swing aggro; proc is only moderately helpful)

At some point, I'll get ahold of a Short Sword of the Ykesha. I'll definitely mainhand that as it will be nearly best ratio (8/24) and best aggro proc. I'll offhand my PSD unless I'm having trouble procing quickly, in which case I'll offhand the Kicsh just for the added aggro proc chance.

Thanks for the brevity.

Is the Enameled Black Chestplate's 3 ac is really better than 40-50 HP I'd get from a Crafted BP? I'm leaning toward the Crafted.

Get the crafted, it really helps your brand image as a warrior; you don’t want to be mistaken for a bard, do you?

The extra hp will be useful come kunark when you’ll start to be the recipient of far more cheals.

Unless you are skilling up taunt, DO NOT ever hit taunt unless you want / need aggro….constantly spamming it while you have aggro does absolutely nothing except ensure that taunt is down when you actually need it. You can always tell good warriors from the bad on mobs that say when they've been taunted....if you see the tanks name come up 6 times on the same mob without him losing aggro, he's doing it WAY wrong.

Jimjam
05-04-2020, 05:41 AM
Results based argument suggests if the warrior isn’t losing agro he is doing something right ;).

But seriously, the mob doesn’t always switch target to the highest player on their list, which means often you can’t tell if you’ve really lost aggro (e.g mob is rooted or highest aggro player is out of melee range). In these instances, when you suspect they’ve done something to exceed your aggro, it is expedient to taunt to piggyback off their lead and also to keep up with them incase they do something else to draw aggro (e.g cheal or slow lands hit taunt before they sit).

The other argument is to get in sync with your rogues backstab timer so you have the rhythm to try taunt off their aggro before they hit their evade key (not yet in green).

So as you see there are instances where you may want to taunt despite never appearing to substantially lose aggro.

7. Which should I buy first: a haste belt or a second Short Sword of the Ykesha? I have one Yak and no haste and am offhanding a Polished Steel Dirk. I can't buy either a second Yak or FBSS yet, but I'm saving up. I'm in "save up money and spend it all on my next warrior item" mode. I just want to put them in the wisest order. Tips?

Time’s up! I got both. Bought a yak from a guildmate and got a Swirlspine Belt on a raid.

Still, please weigh in, folks. Perhaps someone else will benefit from the answer.

I just realized: I should probably have prioritized the haste belt. 8/24 yak and 8/23 Polished Steel Dirk was fine.
