I began playing EQ from just after the Kunark release. The Sleeper was the talk of the town at the time and Whizbang Dustyboots dominated the forums. I pretty much stopped playing shortly after Frogloks became a race to play, even though I was a Froglok necro for about a week. I haven't the slightest idea what expansion that was. I completely lost interest in the game after that new newbie zone was open for dragon people or something like that.

I say this because I think I'm pretty typical of most of the player base or non player base for those 5 years or so and I figure those were the years most folks think about when (if) they think about EQ.

So my question is, disregarding EQ from the dragon people expansion onward, (when most of us quit playing) until and then including the advent of P99 who was the best player in each class and why?

Was it their gear, their expertise, their sociopathy? I think most of us remember the guild leader from FoH and the impact he had on the game, so I guess he may vie as top warrior (what was his gear anyway?) That sort of thing.

Including the green and teal servers btw.

Furor & Tigole are the two most impactful I can think of. I don't really think of anyone on P99 as part of the "history of eq" since we all knew every iota of data by the time it came around, but obviously there are very skilled players on this server, but lets be honest we have all had decades of practice.

I think this would be very difficult to answer, as different players on different servers.

But for sure...

+1 for Fansy.

Also, agree, different servers different communities. Wouldn’t ever remember some random dude from an uber guild anyway after 20 years.

The best players are the ones having the most fun and helping others to have fun too.

Thott/Aftathott was one of the first to actually analyze the data (and went on to create Thottbot which became one of the most used MMORPG news sites and then a wildly successful WoW info aggregator). Dude was min/maxing before it was cool.

You guys are all forgettign that dude that wrote that long non stop thread about being the first at everything and really being Leory Jenkins but it was in EQ and not WoW and he beat a GM in the arena...blah, blah blah.

The top guilds were the ones using secret borderline exploits that are well known now. And they got all the early access beta info. Once you have a solid, geared crew it was trivial for a lot of servers to cockblock Trak, Aary, Emp and RZ.

You can still see Furor's magelo as it was when he quit during LDoN

This is the sound of a man who spent 9 months gearing himself to find out he was beat by another player who spent that entire time winning. :D

I know some of the high end guild leaders and such from back in the day were actually hired by Blizzard for work with WoW when it came out.

I was in FoH and I knew Fansy. His actual ability to play the class after he rerolled Vah Shir in luclin and finally leveling up was.. not particularly amazing :p

Not a single person, but a clan. Terrorizers of Norrath on Rallos Zek.
