View Full Version : Most cast spell across server and all time
So me and my group were just rocking some Crocodiles in Oasis and discussing questions of great importance when this one came up: What's the most often cast spell across the server (and all time)?
We thought it might be SoW or Complete Heal.
Please discuss and if any GM reads this: are there any ways to track this?

Root. Several classes get it, it is crucial CC solo and in many groups, it gets used instead of its upgrades most of the time, it lasts under a minute at max but sometimes only a tick, etc.
If you include bard songs repeating every 3 seconds as spell casts the maybe selos (all those tunnel bards at level 5) or hymn of restoration or something.
Sow only gets cast every 36 minutes and only by a few classes and not indoors. CH only gets cast by one class and is a mana hog and usually only is used on a 40ish+ tank or pet while other heals are used on most classes and in most situations.
I also thought about bard songs. However, there is not that many bards. Selo's is also outside only.
Regarding root: good idea as well - however: there are different root spells (different levels as well as different types (druid root vs. int caster root etc.)

But a bard who afks is casting/singing a song every 3 seconds the whole time he is gone. A few level 5 tunnel bards will sing selos thousands of times in a single hour.
Your criticism of root is also off. I believe that root is the single most shared spell in the game (besides like, bind and gate that are used rarely). Cleric, shaman, paladin, necro, wizard, enchanter; that's the 2, 3, 4, most popular classes on green AND a few of the uncommon ones too. And though it gets upgrades, most people continue using "root" most of the time unless they eventually get "fetter" (which isn't until like 57-58 and is only wizards and enchanters). Root is often needed multiple times per mob due to short-ish duration, no resist mod, and breaking on damage. Etc.
The afk bard in the tunnel might indeed ruin the statistics. So let's go with "spell clicked" instead of cast. So twisting counts, while sitting afk 24h and letting a song run does not.
Is root cast really that often? I know Enchanters and Shamans use it for soloing a lot. But the others?

I just checked my shaman's logs. I solod him most of the way from 1-50 starting on day 1, and have played him at 50 (though less than when I was leveling) over the last several weeks. He has cast just about 5,300 roots.
Even if enchanters and shamans were the only two classes to get root, do you really think another spell is getting cast more than that? When enchanters and shams are the #2 and #3 most common classes on the server? And root is also the best CC option for clerics and necros, the only one for paladins, and almost mandatory to survive for a wizard who isn't quadding? In addition to the stuff I've said before?
How often did u cast SoW? Just curious for comparison.

Just over 900 times :p
"You begin casting Cannibalize." * 28,588 ... lol. But of course Canni 1 stops being used in Kunark and Velious, and only about 10% of characters ever will be able to cast it, so it still probably isn't getting used as much as root. I was more of a tryhard with canni than most shams, most likely. Although... really... the canni numbers surprised me. I considered saying canni in addition to root earlier but I figured not having it for 23 levels and then not using it super frequently because my regen was lower until chloro+ would keep it from being used THAT often. But nearly 30,000 canni casts in the last 100 days is pretty nutty for just 1 shaman. Hah.

I would think most classes that have root available use it at least some of the time. If I have root I've always had it loaded when grouping incase someone dotted an ADD and the enchanter can't get them under control with mez. Although not popular solo classes, root give both paladins and clerics more flexible solo options.

Fun thread.
I dug up the logs for my main enchanter Izmael on Blue. They aren't complete but I leveled him in 2015-2016 mostly solo or duo, heavily using charm mechanics all the way to 60. The logs start at him being level 5, and end in 2019 when he was 60 for a long time and was mainly used for very casual raiding.
Total spells cast (filtered by "You begin casting"): 45012
This includes many clicky spells. For some reason, Jboots aren't logged as a "You begin casting", but the Rod of Insidious Glamour is. So, unsurprizingly, Alliance is at the very top of my casted spells, yet Jboots is nowhere to be seen.
Here are the spells I casted more than 100 times throughout the leveling of the character. I didn't really play him much at 60 for anything but tedious raiding where I mainly acted as a buff bot and garbage-tier CC'er / charmer where applicable. The number is the times I cast this spell. Those who want their logs analysed in such a fashion can send me the log files and I'll crunch them for you.

Canni is the most cast spell
Another thing that may affect the results is people casting low level spells to train their skill... or new players / alts
such as Minor Shielding to raise Abjuration plus it's a free spell
Now if you want to factor in clickies I'd say grim aura earring spam.

Yeah after looking at my logs on canni 1 I'm rethinking my root claim. I cannid 5x as often as rooted and I woulda rooted less but cannid just as much OR MORE if I hadn't been 95% solo.

Ah I see that now, my mistake.
I guess most times when you are resetting GCD you'll have a target, but it seems like a self only buff like shrunken goblin skull earring would be more desirable as a general GCD clicky, but that may be canni dance bias.

Alliance can be cast on yourself or an npc with no aggro. Also, it can be used from inventory so even once you have an epic it's ideal for GCD for chanters.
With so many enchanters on green level 4 mez may be pretty high on the list.
I'm playing a SK on green and I cast a ton of disease cloud. If the sk population was higher that might give some of these other spells a run for their money.

It's canni for sure. Izmael cast 8-9k mez leveling a chanter 1-60. My sham on green is already at nearly 30k cannis and it's only been 3 months, and he hasn't even been played heavily since he hit 50.

Surprisingly, not having a target for GCD reset with a Rod was exceedingly rare. It did happen, but so rarely that it was a non-issue.
On the plus side, you gained a +stat earring slot and got rid of the Grim Aura sound effect that gets old fast.
Its standard root, standard invisibility, minor shielding, minor healing, and gate, id wager.

Yep.
I play on a laptop usually since I can play it on and off during the weekdays that way, and I have a "1-49" log file on there and another one starting when I hit 50. And I have one log file on my desktop from when I play on there that goes back to day 1.
Desktop log had 12.8k "you begin casting cannibalize"
1-49 laptop log had 10.5k
50+ laptop log had 8.9k
Like under 1% of them probably got cancelled from movement or something else. So I've cast over 30,000 cannibalize 1 on green so far. No sitting around at 100% hp for my troll sham. No sir.

I actually think root is a good guess as far as leveling goes because it is widely shared and a lot of people never use upgraded versions.
However, I think raiding has drastically different numbers. No one is casting root in ToV, however CHeal might be getting casted anywhere from 1 second to 5 seconds apart for all the major and minor encounters.
I also just wonder about later levels in general. A wizard may cast several nukes or tflux staff clicks per root, a paly several Yaulps or Flash of lights, etc...
Also of course as others have said the Canni casting is real.

It is root , granted druid root, and ranger root, can be sketchy in a group setting due to the damage part breaking mez, however ghetto mez is important, it always amazes me when people who can cast it, dont have it memed.
dragging adds out of melee range, and parking, until under control, root pre mez break to avoid it charging the enc etc. mob beating on a healer root park, and move etc.

Druid and ranger roots aren't "root" though, and neither are "enstill" or "immobilize" or "paralyzing earth" or "fetter" or "hungry earth" or whatever. OP meant a specific spell like "drowsy" or "root", not a type of spell like a slow or a root.

Where the hell is mez?!
I almost exclusively charm soloed in open areas, so I never had much use for it. If memory serves (it's been some time), my usual approach was to pull a pet with tash and then charm it, then pull something else to kill with tash, root it, slow it, send pet it, and then occasionally throw in nukes (more towards the end I think). At higher levels with the charm that took longer to cast, I did start doing tash/mez/charm (instead of just tash/charm), but I guess not enough yet to make the top 10. Take this all with a grain of salt though because it's been about a year and a half since I played this character. I'm basing this off memory and logs, so I might be getting a detail wrong.
Where and how did you level your enc to have cast THAT many nukes and invises ? Unless it was just skill-up training.
My leveling path (with a few smaller adventures, e.g. Dalnir sololing):
Level 1-23: (no logs, but I think Oasis crocs and East Karana crag spiders if memory serves)
Level 23-26: KFC / wandering trash
Level 26-29: LoIO sabertooth grimalkins near the windmill
Level 29-31: Warsliks giant fort
Level 31-35: Back to KFC
Level 35-39: Iceclad snow cougars
Level 39-45: Dreadlands yeti cave
Level 45-49: Timorous Deep spirocs
Charm soloing approach and nuke usage explained above. I used invis to break charm when my pet was low health so I could kill it for exp. No goblin ring or racial hide. :(
Nice, that's like 3 full hp bars
Haha for real. I've been mostly melee soloing, so a lot of self-healing. I also end up trying to top people off in groups while waiting for respawns.
So from what I've seen here, Cannibalize would be a very good guess indeed as it's cast very often by a popular class. It's also cast regardless of the situation the player is in (e.g. root prolly only cast if some root-class is soloing), while Canni is cast no matter what the Shaman is doing (raids, soloing, even sitting around buffing).
