Does deity matter for sham? Going to start tonight was going to do troll for regen but thinking ogre for meatyness or spell interruption. Troll better?
Either way both are evil does deity matter for any gear later dont want to screw up

You posed two questions, one about religion and one about race. Inny is the only important shaman deity since it gives you access to some very nice clickies. only trolls can pick this one.
Troll is a lot better for vanilla, kunar+is when it becomes quite debatable. A lot of people, most prominently those who prolly never even played a shaman in the first place think the bash stun immunity is super important. It's not. having something that helps .0001% of your playtime instead something helping 99.99% is just a bad idea. if you're dying kunark and beyond it will most likely because your slows keep getting resisted, regardless if ogre or troll. But if slow lands both ogres and troll will be able to easily cast spells between bashes.
This should have prolly been posted in the priests forum, though.

FSI edges out regen once the Shaman gets Torpor
99.99999% of shamans who ever play on these servers will never see that spell

Perhaps, but then you must also consider snare, especially after it starts stacking with root. i don't see ogres ever making up the difference.

speaking of the snare neck, when does that quest get added?

Barb is the best since it's the only one that can walk around the qeynos and kelethin area

I'm not sure how often you'd need Qeynos, but you can invis and wall bank in Felwithe - and the druid ring vendors sell to everyone ^^

Qeynos is also really easy to get well-liked in.

Barbarian is worth it if you don't want to dick around with Overthere faction issues, you don't want to play Iksar, and you want to win Fashionquest.
Barbarian gets a racial that no other race can duplicate: polar bear form.

Don't forget the lowest XP penalty. Everyone acts like it's no big deal, but to me saving 10% (if not 15%) of the time it takes another race to go from 1 to 60 is ... well it's a lot of time!

I remember that as being very large and bright.
The other races get a brown or black bear form. Up to personal preference I guess.

You're overselling the lower exp requirement, imo. The extra exp a troll (or iksar) needs is largely/entirely offset by their significantly better regen giving you faster recoveries (and slightly more strength in a fight itself). FSI is a small thing while leveling, but I could see it saving a death or two over the course of many hundreds of hours of exping. And then at 60, the exp doesn't matter at all, but the non-barb races still have their advantages.
I could see being a barb for appearances sake, or because you don't like being evil, but the exp bonus shouldn't really be a part of the equation imo.

I played an iksar sk to 60
hoo boy that was not easy task, did most of 50+ solo due to groups not wanting to share the penalty...

Granted. But we're talking about the difference between a barb sham and a troll sham. Apples and orangutans.
