View Full Version : Congrats Alysena for completing the first "Epic Newbie Quest"

Background: I had an additional Box of Abu-Kar as one sometimes does, and I decided to bless a newbie with it. But (insert political/philosophical statement about meritocracy, work ethic, and the joy of owning your labor and the fruit of your labor) so I decided to start a series of Newbie Epic Quests.

Quest: "Collect and turn in 100 CB Belts to me for an excellent [reward] which will make your burdens [lighter.]"

Reward: The Box of Abu-Kar

Result: Alysena and her hubby camped those CB belts for 2 days, while leveling. Together they multiquested. With joy she ran to the Kelethin bank to meet the quest-giver and received the Box of Abu-Kar.

Stay tuned for more Newbie Epic Quests.

Isn't that technically selling a box for 300-350pp? ;p

Thanks for encouraging even more camping of belts in a newbie xp zone?

OP conning low levels into inadvertently PLing his alt - would have been a nice gesture for 10 belts, not fucking 100

Isn't that technically selling a box for 300-350pp? ;p Yes, but as you might read from the /tell in the photos, they are broke, like most newbies. It's one way to help newbies get items they cannot get at their current level, but they actually earn them, so it's a nice feeling.

(1) Get epic item you cannot attain on your own or even with a few buddies
(2) Earn it for feeling of accomplishment and genuine ownership

Thanks for encouraging even more camping of belts in a newbie xp zone? I think she is level 7. I 100% encourage newbies to camp newbie quest items in newbie zones. It's how Brad wanted it.

OP conning low levels into inadvertently PLing his alt - would have been a nice gesture for 10 belts, not fucking 100
Belts drop like crazy. Not everyone will do an epic quest. In fact, for one box... "there can only be one."

Feel free to run your own Epic Newbie Quest if you like.

I'd gladly pay 400pp for 100 CB belts in one pop.

PM me if you have a bunch to sell.

Lol exactly. I could get about 100 belts in about a couple hours or so on my necro when he was around lvl 16, if the zone was mostly empty. I would actually play at weird times to do it, but most anyone splitting belts in a party is gonna have a lonnnnng ways to go to get 100 ( especially with the merge )

she would of been better off selling them and buying one... that makes no sense, thats not helping them, shoulda done it for like 40 belts or something. thats messed up honestly, I give away most of the stuff i dont want, infact i got my box for free off a player. if you wanna make quests, thats awesome! but dont do it for profit, do it for stupid doable items like bat wings, or make a list of newb items. what you did is taking advantage

Translation:
"You did a trade that someone was both willing and excited to do. Since I would not have done the trade, that means you exploited the person.

By my authoritative position, knowing what is best for her more than than she does, she is in a worse place now, than if she listened to the advice I am shooting now from my armchair.

To top off, you had to be extra terrible by making it fun and creative..."

Thanks for your feedback.

Telling someone to farm 100 of an item is "fun and creative"? Let's be realistic.

But I do applaud you for making the attempt at creating emergent content for others.

100 seems pretty excessive, but I guess if they were happy both sides got an alright deal.

Yep, could have sold it for X, decided to make a quest and trade it for 0.6X - it's more fun.

More creative ones to come. I just wanted to see if people would be open to a player run quest. It was a success.

Future ones may involve themes (i.e. summoning the dead -- spell scroll: summon dead, handing in a GLS to the gnome in unrest to spawn a skeleton, sacrifice yourself to a level 49 necro pet, turn in 100 bonechips, etc.)

Quest turn-in via forum with pics/videos is one option to show portions were completed. Gotta make the process fun / well-storied and the item in the end worth it.

Still rolling some ideas around in my head. Feel free to send PM with ideas.

I dont mind that you did what you did in game, I'm only going to poke fun at the topic and context it was presented in. Imagine if I congratulated every person who bought an item from me in public. Its like "what an honor it was to do business with me you should be proud"!

This is a really cool player-run quest: a challenging yet achievable task with a satisfying and forever-valuable legacy item as a reward. Good on you, OP.

OP is also dealing very well with the criticism. Good parries, blocks, and ripostes.

The dialogue in that last screenshot is so funny... "Really appreciate you letting me farm them for you" rofl...

"levels are more important... bc higher level = more income potential" you are taking belts from them that would help them level. Your advice seems to counter your actions... so leads me to believe this is more about a convenient way to flip boxes instead of epic newbie quests.

I really like the idea of player ran quests especially epic ones. I would say this is a "quest" not an "epic quest". For epic quests, you can string together a bunch of smaller quests (ex: go find a specific slaver key, buy a specific item from a vendor deep in kaladim, get a minotaur horn)... all of those steps could have lore attached to them, encourage tough newbie fights, exploration and provide a reward at the end (I'm sure you can tie in a social aspect here too). Make them find a no drop item and link it to you. Provide a reward at the end that reflects the story/lore and its not just a transaction.

I think this is great fun, worthy of posting, and in the spirit of good community building. Everyone involved seemed to agree on the worthwhile value of the trade, nobody walked away upset, and it makes for a pleasant story amidst the barrage of unhappy merger posts.

Your next should be a mid-range chest piece (Flowing Black Robe or Bloodstained Tunic) for some nutty volume of useful but easy consumables. Like 10-15 stacks of batwings or bone chips.

At the end of the day both parted ways happy. Props to OP!

Honestly you people are the worst sometimes, try complaining less.

Not sure if these are dropping yet http://wiki.project1999.com/Robe_of_Enshroudment since the quest isn't in for the robe, but that could be a nice one for a necro since it drops off 40 necro mob.

Might do something more along the lines of what you recommend since it'll be open to more people.

--------

To the person that said 100 is "excessive."

It's gotta be fun, but TBH, there has to be some pain involved. It is an EPIC quest. Think of when you did your epic. Any annoying, rare or painful parts? Absolutely. That's what made it epic and where we get the word "passion" and "patience."

I gave away tons of boxes of abukar to my guild and newbies in Grobb.

I'll take all the virtue signal and oo look at me points. Thank you.

More seriously, this is a good thing to do in the spirit of questing.

I really do like the idea behind it, I think its really cool, and totally in the right direction, my point wasn't that it was excessive, its that its not only more then the value of said item on the market, its for an item that benefits you on an alt, that they could use to raise level. thats all, next time make it profitable for them and difficult for them without being self profitable so much. but its totally a really cool idea

He isn't even using these to lvl a alt.

Had manastone offering me a bulk amount of belts/ pads for an up charge. I think he wanted like 5pp per belt. Which means he would actually make more money on this marketing scheme than if he just sold the box.

Smart business I just wouldn’t post a thread like I’m some giver.

No logs, no video, no screenshots. Unconscionable, especially for alleging such a high crime.

I've kept or used every CB Belt I've bought. I've never resold. I don't need the chump change. But if you do wanna buy my stuff, I am selling a Rubi BP for 28k, PST Mannastone.

P.S. New EPIC Newbie Quest to be revealed, maybe this weekend. You will see the full spectrum of my insatiable greed by the items I will require at the hands of these newbies *cackles*

Since you sell CB belts for 5pp can I farm you 5,600 CB for the Rubi BP?

Last time I went through faydark belt were still 1pp/per.

Last time I went through faydark belt were still 1pp/per.

That’s on the low-end. Standard is usually 2pp per belt, with some people going as high as 3. 5 is absurd. For some reason, though, people try to get away with that for Deathfist belts, even though they don’t give any more exp/per than CB belts.
