What we're missing by not having NPC necros and shamans with timeline-correct charms in their spellbooks:

Subject: A weekend in Mistmoore

I gained two levels and only died once. I fell down a hole and got
charmed. This dark elf's pet would dash my brains out when the charm
wore off, then the DE would charm me again, heal me up, and wait for
the charm to wear off. Took about 30 minutes for me to finally DIE
and get the heck out of there but it seemed more like an hour or two.

...

Once, this nasty charming thing came up and we decided to try and kill
it. Bad thinking, since it turned out that it DID charm (someone had
told us Vampiric Ancille's charm - they don't). Everyone had run for
the zone and was fighting there - when I got charmed and started
attacking the other players.

I got several nice punches on Gijint before the Evil Thing's pet
finished him off. Which really made it all worthwhile... (he was back
and killstealing again 15 minutes later though).

...

I got charmed in another one of those trains and started wailing on
people. Hit Feign Death as soon as the charm wore off and waited for
the baddy to go away. Shay /tells me from outside the zone (where 30
people were waiting for the Baddy to go away, "Someone just said '29th
level monk running around smacking people not my idea of fun".

It was pretty fun for ME though. heh.

Post is from June 1999, our present place in the timeline

Let's make sure the struggle is real for 2.0 Greal, baby.

we posted ab that during Beta

charming players and dragging them back to the Castle was what made Mistmoore scary.

It also made Meldraths Mino caves extremely dangerous to venture deep as he d charm u tru walls.

Mobs charming players and wrecking may be the epitome of classic.

The wonder of looking inside that dark castle while you were charmed was pure magic. Knowing your escape would be futile. The fear building as you knew it would break any moment. Trying to take in all the beauty of the castle paintings and scary creatures while you could.

Very classic.
