Do I have to manually turn on meditate?

I'm level 10 on my Druid and I had to manually train Meditate up to skill 27. I sat my character down and went to do chores for half an hour and my med skill did not go up once. Then I discovered I needed to have my spellbook open with the Meditate button toggled. This does not happen on Blue or on my other Shaman character so I don't know if it's a bug or an intended feature.

Working as intended. This is how it was during classic. Most classes no longer need to physically hit meditate after level 35.

Is canni dancing still a thing then? I'm worried this is happening on my Shaman too and that I'm just not noticing it. If so do you mean that meditate starts happening automatically at level 35?
