Wake at McQuaid's

So if you're here on the forums then surely you know about the passing of Aradune.. I'm not particularly active socially on p99, but when I heard the news it hit me kind of hard, given the role that Everquest played in helping me through depression in my early teens around the year 2000.

I logged on tonight and shouted to the zone to get a small gathering of about 4 or 5 of us at McQuaid's in Halas to have some mead and ale and reminisce. It would be pretty cool to have a big ol' wake there and really celebrate the community that has been able to exist for so many years thanks to Brad's vision and hard work.

If anyone is more connected socially and wants to do some of the legwork, that would be awesome. I'm not sure where to start on organizing, so I'm just going to leave this here for now.

Maybe in better location? Halas is edge of world... and hostile to a lot of characters... so would need to make alts to attend.

Freeport area so much nicer....BUT if it's gonna be a full event ....let's do it up good!! Take over all of Halas!!! Do some kinda GM event!!

This is the minimum honor deserving of Brad. Also, Aradune was actually a Ranger, not some shitbag Paladin.

I thought Brad originally was a Paladin in EQ, no? I know he was repping Ranger in Pantheon though.

Aradune was a ranger on Vanguard as well. I thought he was a ranger in EQ, but according to his own character lore he was a champion of Tunare and first wielder of the Fiery Avenger, so one would assume he started as a paladin. You'd probably have to ask Smed or Bill Trost or someone like that to get confirmation at this point.

A permanent memorial of some sort, like an Aradune Mithara NPC in green full plate and a Fiery Avenger, someplace would definitely be fitting. Does anyone know if he felt a particular fondness or attachment for a specific area in the world?

Why did Aradune the Ranger in EQ wield a two-handed flaming sword called the Fiery Avenger. Well, the first weapon we successfully attached particle effects to was that two-handed sword. And I of course wanted to show it off in screenshots. I had to make it Rangerable.

The post explains how he started off as a paladin named Aramith in various MUDs. His character's father was Aradune the ranger. Over time Brad discovered that he enjoyed playing the latter class more. So he became Aradune the ranger.

And I have been following Pantheon forever.
Sorry for his family, so terrible to lose loved ones. And what a loss to the gaming industry, someone to trailblazer and not follow in the footsteps of everyone else. A truly great gamer, he will be missed greatly

I was thinking definitely move the GFay one to the spires so it's more neutral but I know that won't be makeable by everyone. The tunnel is already kind of so packed that I think it's not quite the same to gather there.. If we want to make that one neutral as well then maybe the platform in North Ro?

I waited around the wizard platform for an hour. Seemed like a poor place to do it anyways. It's a camp with constant fighting, no booze and mobs that attack level 1 characters.

I'm glad Halas worked out. Wish I could have made it.

Hopefully Greater Fay will work out better. May also want to advertise in /ooc throughout the day in random places. Greater Fay is a much better location.

Sorry, I'll take responsibility for that one. I caved to having an evil friendly place but was afraid of the tunnel being too chaotic. In retrospect maybe it should have just been there. Tonight at the spires I'd encourage anyone with some spare plat to buy beers and bring them to the spires. I don't have a real toon out there but I'll try to wrangle a few drinks to hand out.

Friday was an excellent turnout, and once again it was awesome to hear everyone's stories about EQ and vanguard. Was definitely an affirmation of how great the community is that Brad wanted to encourage in his games.

Lesson learned: never plan three wakes. Or only have wakes at bars. I don't know. Maybe don't plan parties where wizards hang out?

But really, thanks to everyone who showed up and I'm glad we all made some excellent new memories on Friday.
