View Full Version : How important is Sneak for a Druid? Halfling? Wood Elf?

When it comes to Druids, it seems like Wood Elf or Halfing are usually considered the best because they can use their "Hide" skill to break their charmed pets.
Stat wise Halfling seems to come out a bit ahead with 5-10 in a couple of the physical stats, and the 5% extra exp also. But it seems like the main difference between the two races is that Halflings get Sneak, and Wood Elves don't.
So I was wondering, just how important or useful is Sneak on a Druid? Would some of you Druids consider it a must have skill? Do some of you Halflings not even bother with using it?
Halflings are karana and miss out on some special tunare items, and humans also get some extra robe equipment.

While hide is indeed pretty nice to have, sneak really is much less. Druids already have nice invisibility spells that are much more usefull.
There is one thing where having sneak maybe nice. That's quest turnins.
So i would say if you like wood elves more, go do a wood elf. From a power play perspective i think halflings are better, but only a little bit.

Halflings have a lot of advantages but you need to play as a halfling.
Not just quest turn ins, but also if you ruin factions you can still vendor as well at a lot of places. There are also tings that see invis but not sneak.

Such as? (Not necessarily doubting you, have just heard different and wondered if there were hard evidence one way or the other.)

He's quite right, and in fact, nearly all mobs cannot see through Sneak (if you're behind them). There are very few exceptions. From the wiki page on Sneak (http://wiki.project1999.com/Sneak):
Some mobs (very rare) can see through sneak. You can recognize these mobs because when you are sneaking and con them, it will say 'You have a feeling that this creature can see you'. Beware of these mobs. Examples include: Royal Guard (Crushbone), A ghoul assassin (Lower Guk), A Chokidai Mangler - Note: While some examples are marked, many are not.

Only reason to be a Wood Elf Druid is Gloves of Earthcrafting.

If your Druid's basically a port/utility alt--which accounts for the large majority of Druids--Sneak is essentially just a nice little fluff ability that lets you use a few merchants here and there in the game. For the minority of Druids who play the class as a main character Sneak may have more utility.

And if you didn't know you can camo to get behind someone like a banker or any KOS quest NPC. You don't have to approach them from far away like you are playing "Thief". If the sneak does not work, your speed will remain unchanged, when it works you will noticeably slow down in movement speed.

Well my old Main on Blue was a Druid, I got to 51 and never ever needed Sneak or being a halfling or wood elf, I was a plain Qeynos Human worshipper of Karana.
To be honest , race in the long run is really a cosmetic factor, in my own experience for a druid and this applies more or less to practically all race class/combos , I did not miss or wished I had rolled a halfling for the extra xp bonus or wanted to be other race for the abilities.
IUnless you really want to powergame and edge out your character as a skill test or have a specific roleplaying or mechanic wise goal, race is just moot "powerwise" ...
I enjoy humans, love the lore, and not everything is about min maxing, but I can respect other peoples opinion on "efficiency" or "power gaming" or "utility" 8)
Same with necros, everybody says to wait for kunark for the extra regen and whatnot, honestly, having played odd necro combos before, it is really cosmetic specially if you are not in a rush and just want to experience the journey.
Just my 2cents worth of opinion! Hope you have fun with your choice friend

Hey, don’t forget there are class specific forums (in the form of groups of classes) - see the thread below for more specifics on race discussion for Druid’s. There are many others too.

Sneak is incredible. I couldn't give an exhaustive list of its uses if I tried, I am still finding new uses for it all the time three years on, and I basically can't play a non-Halfling of any class because they don't have it.
