I played for about 6 months on Blue after coming back to EQ after ~20 years, and enjoyed it for the most part, but was really looking forward to a fresh start. I ran into my fair share of asshats, only got involved with GMs twice after trying to reason with blatant douchelords, but was ok with the general population.
I had a feeling when the news of "Green" was posted on IGN and Kotaku to name a few, that a lot of trolls, griefers and min/maxers would go through the trouble of setting up the client, downloading patches and provisioning accounts, just to be douches. I was not wrong.
When Teal opened, I figured that'd probably sort some chaff from the wheat. I was wrong.
Between camps being rolled over because "population is too high", people ninja looting while waiting for a dead group member to get back to loot (from Surefall to Blackburrow... calm your tits), and being bitched at about being under-geared (in full banded with a combine weapon at lvl 12, 24 hours in) made me realize that it really does take a few bad apples to fuck everyone's day.
And the "kthnxbai" respondents are likely the same assholes (or their enablers) that I'm talking about.
TL;DR:
Some people are just miserable cunts who take pleasure in ruining others fun. If this hadn't been a magnet for said people, I'd still be playing.

Avoid these sour people. There are a lot of genuine good people who don't want the drama.
You'll inevitably run into annoying people but I feel the majority are good people if you chat with them.
I've lied to jerk players to make them feel like I was one of them. Just so they'd get off my toes at a camp. You don't have to stoop to their level but if you can convince them you think similar to how they do sometimes they'll leave you alone. Then you just go on about your life.
Keep the interactions to /tell
Don't engages these people in /ooc or /shout

You should Still play good sir. I've met some great peeps on here looking at you Honko, Sincity, Bradshaw, and many others. That once you find you can keep just adding them to /friends. There is a /note function that is a good way of tracking not only friends but those who do crappy things. The world is huge, 1400/1000 players depending on your server. You gonna find both. Heck EQ still has one of the greatest communitys. Don't let a few bad apples ruin your playing or day. Leave em and move on:).
Ps. I should share the story of what happen yesterday in HHK which a two people who are on my blacklist. But doesn't stop me from enjoying the game.(Hell was fun getting back at em!)

Told you (and everyone else) so.
Personally, my experience with green has been fantastic. No fighting with anyone. No needing guides or having guides called in on me. No KSing since I was level 3 on launch day. Amicable deals over contested exp camps.

Glad your experience differed from mine, tbh.
Given the fact 90% of the players are in their 30s-40s, I can't help but think how truly boned some of these peoples lives are, that they feel the need to be asses to complete strangers for fun.
I'll check back in a few months with what was intended to be a high level char, but will be inadequate compared with the twinks that'll be around by then.

I wouldn't worry about your gear. The instance you cited is unusual and I have never seen someone say something like that before, so it's definitely not common. Gear isn't really needed. I've joined groups with essentially zero gear on Blue where everyone else is twinked out of their minds. You'll be okay.

My 8-year-old son came home from school yesterday upset because kids that annoy him were playing with his friends, and so he didn't play with any of his friends at recess, and he said his day was bad because of it. When I told him that there are annoying people everywhere in life and that you need to learn how to ignore them or otherwise cope with their presence, and not let them ruin your fun, he ran to his room screaming.
And here we are on P99 fourms. A bunch of grown-ass adults. And you're quitting P99 at least for the time being because a handful of people annoyed you. And you're complaining on the forums about them. And you think they might all disappear in the future. So you're bemoaning the situation partly of your own making "oh the twinks that'll be everywhere by then. the horror, the horror."

I have been playing on P99 for a couple of years now starting on Blue and now on Green. I see all of these posts similar to this one talking about having to fight with everyone and all the troubles associated with other people. I have never once had to argue with anyone on P99. Mainly because I refuse to let myself argue or get pissed off over a video game at 35 years old lol. I think people are just becoming so soft today that the smallest pin prick will set them off...tuffen up people.

Everyone's been real nice to me. Sometimes I'm killing stuff and some wood elf runs up to me and spams some question marks and I spam back some exclamation points and then we go our separate ways, camp boundaries established. I keep rejecting group invites until I find one I like. I try to tip people for sows and they're like no it's cool. I'm always getting ninja-buffed which I don't like so I click the buff off but I thank them anyway. Everyone is so polite in /ooc always giving advice and helping out with questions. People are bowing and cheering and thanking each other, good manners all around. I have literally not met one rude or angry or stupid person on Green yet.
Of course I'm only level 14. I hear the assholes come out at night.

King of disasters will not survive
There's no place to run, no place to hide
No place to go
Let it begin, masters of disaster
Let it begin, don't let him win
Living for vengeance he cries out the night
Search for the master he's aching to spite
Free from his prison and hot for the kill
Clash of the titans a battle of wills

No place to go
No place to run no place to hide

Right, my hours of playtime shielding new players from others bullshit, and generally trying to peacefully enjoy a nostalgic experience without having people tell me how to play my class with no understanding of their own (protip, dont waste mana healing and buffing a charmed pet when the person tanking needs heals), puts a target on my back.
The whole reason I posted was to call out the straight up toxic behavior of people who get off on being uber elite and treating everyone else who they're not directly involved with like shit because they're trying get pixels/named/drops/loot at the expense of others trying to enjoy the game.
I thought long and hard for a couple days before posting anything because I knew the majority of people who bother to post and or read the forums would basically dismiss the whole concept as someone complaining with a "show me where the bad man touched you lol" mentally.
If it had been 1 or 2 instances I never would have said anything. It's the sheer frequency of asshats to rational people that drove me to take a break and call out the community at large for putting up with those people. Just moving to a new camp, or letting them have that ninja looted item and letting it go just fosters the behavior.
Suffice to say, I hope these people level to 50 and get their fill of being RL trolls and move off before I come back.

Forum community is far worse than the in game community. Most people report neutral or very positive experiences in game on the whole. If you are experiencing otherwise you are either unlucky with who you run into or part of the problem yourself.

OP, are you a woman? Because usually its a woman who bemoans how toxic everyone else is, and if you know the person you know its really they that are the problem. They are bitches and treat everyone shitty, and when someone gets the nuts to tell them to fuck off they get all flummoxed and act like they are the ones being attacked. Then they desperately search for white knights to come to their rescue (like this post). Not always women, but usually.
If you are not a woman, do you eat a lot of soy?

You posted your experiences with a few bad apples.
Then a dozen other people posted and talked about how their experiences have mainly been very good.
Then you thanked someone who has you on ignore and are continuing to complain because the people who don't agree with your "legit criticism of the community" due to their own experiences on the server don't agree with you.

I've had a good time so far. People are nice but I'm sure I'll run into crazies because crazies have always played these games. I still remember having some guy threaten to "destroy me" because I undercut him on Gold Rods in WoW and later in BC some guild kicked me after some guy flipped out because I didn't want to buy a BOE shield off the AH since me defending myself was "creating drama".
Obviously statistics have shifted some, but I think it's more likely you had an above average experience in the past and are having a below average experience now.

Yeah nothing like posting like you're Elliot Rodgers to show how great the community is.
I don't stress over the people who are jerks in this game because the ingame community is not huge so if you get a bad reputation people will talk.
Prime example:
I'm in my low 20's get in a group in Guk and our tank is been a total jerk to everyone then mobs spawn and he runs away and leaves all us caster scrambling to deal with aggro (left us to join the room next to because he said we don't meet his standards). Fast forward a few days I'm in another group and we really need a tank... Same jerk is in zone LFG asking for a group... Our lead say's he refuses to invite him and 3 other random group members all agree that this guy has been a jerk to them in past so we Pet tank till we find another tank an hour later.
So I didn't even have to say anything because this player already has a bad reputation and people remember.
That's why I don't I don't stress over rude people and just focus on the cool people I meet.

Nobody said that you didn't have bad experiences.
Everybody is saying that you shouldn't let what you yourself labelled as a few bad apples spoil your fun here and is providing you with evidence that you were just unlucky with your negative experiences.
The fact that you think everyone who doesn't agree with you is a troll suggests... lol... why should I even point it out? You won't believe it. You already know everyone is toxic but you. The world is out to get you. Nothing else could explain it!

I'm open do discussion and disagreement. I don't posit that everyone's out to get me. I'm just voicing an opinion about the state of the community and explaining why I'm backing away from something I'd hoped would be a more or less copacetic and chill experience.

I did this the other day, but it wasn't to replace for a guild mate. One of our Necro's kept going afk, took him a solid 10-20 seconds to send pet every time, he wouldn't tap targets, so I had to heal his ass because he would get down to like 20%. People in the group told him to stop playing Teal and Green at the same time, etc. Multiple times people complained in group chat. Eventually I just kicked him. You would think I fucked this guys mother, he started spamming Fuck you to me, probably a good 30 times, told me I was dead to him etc, etc.

I find this post awesomely hysterical.
We have to cope with them... not be nice or weak to them. Be sure to explain that to him. PUNISH THEM! but not when it will make him look like the evil one.
