View Full Version : Asked to leave group because of gear.

I'm a 22 warrior and was invited by a 23 warrior to join his group at FP in unrest. I have a full suit of banded, a few low level magic items and a shiny brass halberd as my main weapon at this point.

I get there and he inspects me then tells me I don't have the gear and I would be of no use to the group.

I am wondering what gear I should have at this level and at this stage on the Green server?

Thank you.

Lol that’s strange that he would do that. Sounds like you’re definitely sufficiently geared for your level. Must’ve just ran into a jerk

You're there to tank not DPS, and unless you've personally gone to Highkeep etc to get some bronze armor you're not going to have better than banded...which you've saved for and managed to acquire.

What did the 23 warrior have on him? Apart from some inflated ego based on his gear versus yours?

You should have trained them while taunting him, and taken your 3 day ban like a man.

I'm having a horrible flashback from WoW classic and a DPS warrior inviting another warrior to tank only to be told their gear sucks and they boot them out. I never expected to see a similar story on Green, but there it is.

What do they want, someone in Bronze? lol

I guess maybe Bone Bladed Claymore or dual Obsidian Shards?

Last i checked Classic Everquest doesn't have ilvl requirements. Infact ilevel requirements where not put into place until the 3rd expansion of a entirely different MMO which is way out of the timeline for this project

I would say if you were geared like this adventurer, that's about the best you can do at this point:

I have a full suit of banded, a few low level magic items and a shiny brass halberd as my main weapon at this point.

Really, banded is sufficient into the 30s and 40s. The guy was a tool.

Would appreciate the name of this person so I neg34 have to group with them. Dogshit behavior. On blue I can see this somewhere like sebilis or something..... Unrest on a 3 week old server? Name names.

Thanks all. I was going to say... He had a couple of pieces of bronze and was dual wielding but I don't know what. He was a gnome warrior and from what I have come to learn, considered a real jerk in the community. This was my first trip to Faydwer so I had not run across him before. I took your advice and added him to ignore. I don't remember the guy's name but he was from Taken II.

Asking someone to leave the group over gear when said person is in level-appropriate gear usually means one of two things: A) the group in question wanted to make room for some other friend of theirs and were too chicken to say so, or B) they're looking for overgeared people to carry them so they can be lazier. More rarely it may also be a case of wanton stupidity manifesting itself but if I were taking bets I'd bet on "A" in this case.

Even with his moderately better gear you probably could have out-tanked him.

If you showed up in cloth and patchwork, maybe. But a full suit of banded in the low 20's is just fine. Scratching my head at this one. This is where pvp is supposed to come in, you attack and kill jerks.

Ive done this a few times, its one of the only ways to make someone your bitch on green/teal. Just look for someome un-anon 30 minutes away from you and invite him to a bomb ass group then tell him to beat it, lol, makes me laugh everytime.

Palemoon is pretty stupud, if therr was PvP id invite you over then kill you. Ive done this a ton of times on red. Id even offer a port just to leave you dead in hate. And no, if your a whiny enough bitch to cry about it on the forums, you would NEVER be able to kill me.

Thank you. What a jerk. This is classic EQ. It is us vs. the world. We should be helping each other get stronger. We don't spawn with a class set armor and starter weapon, everyone is rags to riches. What a jerk that guy decided to behave like.

I was in that group, knew nothing of this situation till afterward though. We had just lost our 30SK main tank to wife aggro. Im guessing gear was an excuse for realizing he fucked up in telling you to come in the first place...without the sk we suffered and fell apart soon after

This is probably what happened. They were using a 30 sk to tank, asked a 23 war to rep and once you got there they realized it wasn't gonna work. Full banded armor is fine btw to tank, but if previous tank was level 30 in bronze I can kinda see how this situation might have played out due to a mistake from the person recruiting.

Or "C" OP is telling a tall tale...that's my vote. I cant see anyone doing this...because it would not have been just the warrior booting him for gear it would have been a whole group of people. Not to mention the group he is talking about it lvl 20's no one in that group had better gear. OP is full of shit.

So honest mistake. Group leader or whomever invited should have just admitted to the mistake and apologized. No need to lie and criticize your gear, rather than just explaining the class make-up was a poor choice.

Bronze drops on second floor so that's where ya got to get to move up from banded if youre getting it the old fashioned way, so post was legit. Nothing wrong about the OPs perspective.

On p99 though theres a fp group.....on live in the day there was a magi group, a bar group, a hand group and even a group for whatever ghoul above the mr stairs. So many know the ins and outs now its tough to play "old fashioned"

If that FP group couldn’t make it with a 23 warrior tanking, then they were pretty terrible. We had a 23 bard tanking that camp in leather and chain and it was one of the best groups I’ve been in on Teal. Had 2nd floor and bar on lockdown with constant pulls. This is classic, people take it way too seriously sometimes.

Falls into that category, over-leveled being equivalent to overgeared in this case.

OP: In World of Warcraft you can be an ass in battlegrounds, parties and raids and not much changes in the world for a player. The thing that Everquest makes possible, that other MMORPGs might not, is make your reputation matter. It mattered more than any other game I've ever played. There are these social mechanics that evolve and one day that player might be LFG in your zone, might be looking to join the guild, might try to tag along on a raid, and a negative reputation sometimes follows a player and makes some of those things a little more difficult for them.

I'd prefer a guy who is upfront about his complaints (even if I disagree with them) than someone who backtracks and lies to cover his mistakes.

Once I notice these small lies it is hard for me to trust that person on anything again.
