I would think it would pretty easy to see if two chars were logged on under the same ip and logged into both servers at the same time.

Really horrible idea for when the server recombines. Hard to strictly enforce, but IP checks could make it at least difficult for them.

what if they are new players and just setup new accounts and there is no history to go by? throw in the fact that half the people coming from TLP servers already have a spare $50 laptop (or 6) to run EQ on. 1 computer with VPN on Teal, 1 computer with (or without) VPN on Green. There is literally no way to police it.

On the same server it is easy. You see 2 people running around and can start to notice them boxing because the behavior between the two characters is right there in-front of you. How do you spot behavior between two characters on two different servers when there is nothing to indicate a link between the two (such as grouping together)?

At which point since people are able to do this, you may as well give everyone the same advantage and let everyone do it if they choose.

That's a layer 8 issue mate. GM's have already said VPN's are okay.

they haven't mentioned otherwise so the assumption would be yes, they've never restricted your ability to play one or more servers at the same time before and maybe they'll implement something in the backend later?

It's a grey area that hasn't been answered yet I don't think. Green + Blue = okay. Blue + Red = okay. Green + Teal = ehhhh ??????? Some could assume it is okay based on history but who knows.

It's like how all of your Path of Exile loot and characters get transferred over to Standard once the League is over. Nobody cares at that point. Most players won't ever touch their Standard characters.

The fun part is making currency and leveling up characters in a current "league". In this case, the current "league" is a server that will go for some years before merging with blue. So obviously I should be dual-boxing on Teal and Green so that when they merge, I'll have the most currency and character levels on Green compared to if I was only playing on Green.

Basically the only complaint 80-90% of people really had about blue was how top heavy it was. A minority of players had lots of accounts, lots of alts, lots of plat and gear. They dominated all the raid content to the point the casual folks never got to see it, finish epics, etc. They uber twinked alts and disrupted the low-level grouping gameplay. Etc.

Splitting green, allowing boxing, and then merging will give the same sort of people who made blue top heavy an extra mechanic to take advantage of to bring about a similar state of affairs on green even faster than it would come about anyways.

You're right, it won't. Pre-merge it doesn't matter, and post you can't play both chars at the same time.

And let's take it from the other direction; do you think prohibiting boxing will prevent *ANY* of that? Really? Given the people that would do it to provide those alleged downsides would do it anyway. It'll be slower, ... maybe? (as yet unproven), but you mentioned it happened on blue, so ...

If you're referring to economics, to me the biggest concern is duplication of plat. Now, I'm obviously not saying that an eventual Green server merged back with Teal will be like Blue inflation level after a year of being separate. But there's certainly an ability to farm lots of plat in the pre-Kunark area through a multitude of cash camps (to say nothing of the camps that aren't necessarily in the top tier of cash camps, but also supply a decent amount).

Since EQ is of course an old game, there aren't really many money sinks at all since the devs never thought of it and didn't anticipate the game even being around enough for inflation to be a big problem. I think anything that moves us further down the road to inflation faster than we otherwise would is simply a bad thing overall.

I'm poor as shit on Blue. I'm not really concerned about what happens if Green merges with Blue down the road. I'm more concerned about the health of the new server over the next 4-5 years before we see a merge into Blue.

I'm not a tunnel quester. I have no intent of listing for any legacy items. I might do J Boots since it seems like it might be easier than camping the AC lol, but other than that I'm not trying to like defend some prestige items or plat hoard I'm trying to get. The more plat comes into the system, the more inflation you have and the more things start to cost, which makes it harder for non-neckbeard plat farmers to be able to afford things.

Yeah. You're so right. Boxing on red and blue, one PVP and one PVE, which will never be merged, is the same as boxing on teal and green, which are both PVE and in a short timeline and which will merge together in the future.

Honestly I'd just log in and enjoy the process of leveling a character, it is what it is with however it goes... have fun with the game and as long as you're doing that, the rest doesn't seem so bad <3

The Blue merge isn't confirmed and is also 4-5 years down the road. By that point, the economy of both servers will be inflated anyway so the merge won't matter. A server merge in the next several months for Green and Teal while people farm plat on both up until that point is a much different and more significant issue than Green potentially merging with Blue several years from now.
