Since I've had a terrible week on green (switching through 5 classes) I've decided I am going to play a Barbarian Shaman on Teal. I have decided on this as this is the class I've had the most fun playing. I need a bit of help, you see I am a giant newb. I don't know the good leveling paths. I can make my way through a zone with the help of the wiki, but I am struggling with finding the best places to level.

Here is my plan: (I am planning on soloing but will group with others if needed)

1-6 - Everfrost. I am going to grind all of the blues I can, level 6 will be painful but I should be okay.
6-9 - Qeynos Hills. Avoiding Black Burrow because I always die to unannounced trains.

I am leveling to 9 for sow. Once I have sow I can travel easier.

9-19 - Everfrost - Assorted mobs all with different level ranges, according to the hunting guide getting 10 levels here is possible.

19-23 - East Karana

23-25 - South Karana

25-30 - Rathe Mountain (Giant Skeletons)

30-32 - South Karana (Centaur Archers)

32-35 - Kazik Thuul (Alligators)

35-40 - Estate Of Unrest

40-45 - Lower Guk (Ghoul Ritualist and Zols/Dars)

45-50 - Lower Guk (Dead Side)

This is the plan I have put together from the hunting guide. However I am a giant noob. A lot of you are experts, so if there is any advice or revisions I should make, I am more than willing to listen to the wisdom of my experience EQ peers.

I want to get to 50 no matter what. But walking in without a plan will set me back. So please if you have any wisdom to impart, I would greatly appreciate it.

Blackburrow sucks, and I feel you there, but I'd still recommend braving it. Those gnoll fangs are leaps and bounds better exp than anything else you will find at those levels. ESPECIALLY the few just before you hit 9, when your spells are at their least effective and you're basically a ranger. Your melee begins to fall off but you don't have Tainted Breath yet so you're stuck paying 15 mana for a 14 damage nuke. Much better to be in a group during that level range IMO.

Also, i'd suggest Erud's Crossing at some point. Wisps are all white or below at 11, though I had plenty of success DoT kiting yellow cons at 10, just had to be careful of resists. Duo'ing with a necro or chanter is great there too. It's great cash (greater lightstones vendor for 4.5pp) with a merchant right there to sell to, and the zone is usually a ghost town so very little competition. Personally, I plan on dumping my Greater Lightstone fund into smithing banded, but YMMV :) Only downside is if you're solo and get aggro you can't handle, there's no zoneline to run to, but if you run laps around the island somebody will usually be happy to peel a wisp off you if there's at least one other person there.

9-19 in everfrost is not a good idea.

Start EK around 12 at day gnolls

I'm not allowed to share more yet.

leveling guide recommends starting it around 14, so I'll adjust my path to reflect that.

Since I can't edit my original post. Here is the revised path. Blackburrow is going to be rough, every time I go in I die. But I am going on advice, not sure if a slow painful death might be more pleasant than getting trained on every 10 minutes.

1-6 Everfrost
6-9 Blackburrow
9-12 Everfrost
12-14/15 - Erud's Crossing
14-19 East Karana (Gnolls)
19-23 East Karana (Various Mobs)
23-25 South Karana (Elephants & Shiz)
25-30 Rathe Mountain (Giant Skeletons)
30-32 Mistmoore (Graveyard)
32-35 South Karana (Centaur)
35-37 Splitpaw (Gnolls)
37-38 Upper Guk (Ancieent Crocodiles)
38-42 Rathe Mountains (Hill Giants)
42-45 Lower Guk (Ghoul Ritualist and Zols/Dars)
45-48 Permafrost (Ice Giants)
48-50 Lower Guk (Dead Side/Live Side)

Further revised due to some errors on my part regarding level requirements. Please let me know if I can make any improvements to this path.

Few places to consider:
- West Karana bandits are good for low teens, and you get sashes to turn in.
- North Karana has griffons of all levels from teens to 40s.
- SolB is good for mid 40s.
- Also Permafrost has some cool drops (+wis cloack, weight reducing bag and some more).

14-19 East Karana (Gnolls)
19-23 East Karana (Various Mobs)
23-25 South Karana (Elephants & Shiz)
25-30 Rathe Mountain (Giant Skeletons)
30-32 Mistmoore (Graveyard)
32-35 South Karana (Centaur)
35-38 North Karana (Griffons)
38-42 Rathe Mountains (Hill Giants)
42-45 Lower Guk (Ghoul Ritualist and Zols/Dars)

14-23 east karana? You will be bored to tears. At least venture into highpass and Minotaur maze

Running from Everfrost to Northern Ro seems kinda silly. Especially getting through Runnyeye at level 1 as a newb may be... hard. What if I die? I'd have no bind and would have to run all the way back. I can see this working for an Ogre or Troll Shammy, but as a Barb Shammy? Nah... that's far too much travel time with a lot of potentially bad things that could happen, causing me to run back because no bind is available.

Or even worse, I'd have to run back at level 2-3 to get the skills I couldn't afford prior, at level 5 and 9 for new skills as well. Not sure if your trolling or being serious, because as a giant newb I can see even if the xp is the shit, that the journey to get there in One Piece let alone back and forth to train would not be worth it.

If you want something specific to you i did a self geared / no trading toon on blue, a shaman, and i found 14-29 in permafrost was really good. This was before block of hq ore got moved out, but i think he got >100 black smithing and a couple of k in the bank.

During Blue launch... SolA was packed to the brim because of ZEM. There was like 6 of us in our early to mid-20s with seemingly nowhere to exp. I convinced a band of people to run from EC to Perma. We EXP'd all night and had a blast. Got lots of good loot too (Runed Circlet, Dented Brass Mask, Arch Pack, etc). The next day when I logged in. Everyone had already run back to EC so they could get into SolA. :(

Yeah the ZEM isn't great. But it is so fun there, and never busy or congested.

When you hit 29 pick up befriend animal and invis. You can go to the wolf caves and root 'a large dire wolf' at the door near the start. Invis to the camp you wish to do and wait for root to break.

Now mal, befriend and buff that wolf and smash through the zone.

I've always enjoyed perma, but I'm having a hard time seeing in my head how to make the zone work if not a chanter or duo+. It seems like there's too many 2-3 mob pulls to be able to deal with them before like 24 as a solo sham, and lots of wizards/clerics that are really a pain in the ass without a reliable interrupt.

Could you elaborate on how you pushed in deeper at like 20+?

I actually tried to do that on my Iksar Necro on blue but never got to grind there because someone was already there. Though getting to sk on a Barb will be far easier, so when/if it is open I'll totally hit that.

You're more likely to win the lottery than find SK Treants uncamped.

To be honest untwinked you don't have that much dps so you don't need to keep so many xp spawns clear. There are a few mixed in with the lower level mobs near flag room. And near the excavarion site. If things go wrong its either root and camp or gate. I also think i was quite bottom feedy, with orr dropping off xp greens they weren't so painful to have to kill.

Yeah, I'm just not seeing how perma is even possible at ~20 for a solo sham unless you're like, fungi cloak of flame GFG levels of twinking. The first few mobs in the zone are green, then as soon as something isn't green, it's a room with 2 yellow con cleric goblins. Before invis, I don't even see how you could move through this zone let alone pick off stuff that you can handle for exp.

Glad I suspected this sort of situation and stayed bound elsewhere so I can just gate away and not have to cross the continent again :p
