The question is simple: Has green been everything you thought it would be? Is it more? Is it less? Is it fulfilling or creating a bigger void?
I would love to hear. For me - it's been perfect!

Made it to level 20 and got too bored to continue. The server itself is fine, I just thought my appetite for EQ was bigger than it turned out to be. The game is so mechanically primitive that it just isn't fun to play on a micro level. I can enjoy EQ when I can box so there's actually shit to do, but playing a single character is just too uneventful for me. That shit was fine around the turn of the millennium, but it doesn't hold up anymore. The knowledge that the endgame content will be 100% monopolized forever doesn't help, either.
On top of that, the anti-QoL features that were reinstated (book-medding, no tab-cycling, etc.) just made the gameplay even more tedious. These things simply make the game worse and have no redeeming qualities, so while I would never ask to have them removed, I will refrain from playing when they're there. They turned it into a game that I don't want to play, so I don't. It's just too much of a constant nuisance. The "true spirit of classic" isn't to my liking, for the same reason that I don't want to ride a horse to work.
In 1999, the game was innovative and had the magic of discovery. Those things are now gone, but with all the obstacles and tedium put back in, it just isn't a very good game twenty years later. It was briefly entertaining to see the old world again, but the endless hours of auto-attacking and frantically trying to click on the elbow of the right mob just wasn't fun for more than a week. It was fine when I was 14 and nothing better existed. Now I'm 34 and there's about 500 games I'd rather play.

I didn't expect Green to mirror the original EQ as much as it does. I'm surprised actually. Zoning into Crushbone right into a train and dying instantly is exactly what happened to me in 2000 when I first played Everquest...Green did not disappoint. I think having so many people in the world is the real difference. the unwritten social mechanics were a big part of the EQ experience. Guilds mattered, your reputation mattered, effort mattered, these things all involve people.

never got to play classic. as primitive as it is, it's kind of cool to start a new server and see how the economy and playerbase ends up.

It is everything I dreamed it would be. However, I am the type of person that gets brought down by the actions and emotions of others and there are a lot of miserable people out there due to classes not taking a hybrid due to the experience penalty or people getting frustrated because they can't find a spawn due to the overpopulation of the server.

It's great. Lots of players in lots of groups at lots of cool camps. Everyone excited about cracked staves and patchwork and banded. Slowly progressing through the levels and growing in power along the way while visiting all the old places I remember playing in classic and on blue.

It's really fun playing through the game as it was meant to be played. The highs are really high, and the lows are really low. Group exp really sucks though, so I've been sticking to mostly duo's and trio's.

I wish they had not nerfed so much, leave classic classic. I understand lowering like bone chip quests during high spawn rate, but they nerfed almost all exp quests even when mobs are not affected by high spawn rate. I wish it was as classic as possible instead of selectively classic.

I have been enjoying green quite a bit. While not everything has been rainbows and sunshine, overcoming the crowded environment has been really rewarding. Finding the out of the way places, those hidden little little camp no one is bothering with, stressful sure, but rewarding once I found my niche. I still don't agree with the non-split guys, but I can see the value of it.

The first few days were awesome. Hundreds of dwarfs running around then I saw a halfling and I was like this dude is a boss for running here. I want to keep playing but sitting in groups with nothing to do as we compete for mobs with 70 other people is lame. Its kinda boring and its costing money to buy all these audiobooks :}
I want to give it up to the guys who made the server and it put in all the hard work. Great job, thank you.
Loving it, loving the struggle.
I've died so many times and done so many CRs. Also have learnt WK like the back of my hand, and know what/where to avoid.
Taking it slow this time around, and loving every moment of it. Something about the feel of this game will always keep me hooked, I just love the art style.
All the QOL changes are fine by me, I like the night vision situation. Really makes nighttime terrifying as an Erudite. I think the only one i don't love is not seeing DOT tick values, but it's tolerable.
My main question is how on earth did I manage to actually pass lvl 5 back in 2000? I rolled a Barb as my first character and soloed a warrior with rusty/bronze weapons to lvl 30 before rerolling a Druid. I honestly don't know how I persevered without maps + night vision + weapons etc.

It's been a mixed bag for me. The overcrowding is pretty painful; worse than I expected (which probably is more about my own expectations). Having to deal with the hybrid penalty again has also been painful, though I expected that. Some of the removed QoL features feel like they just make the game clunkier, not actually more challenging (and it's a pretty clunky game to begin with).
However I am also loving how all this old-world content feels relevant again. Obtaining banded armor has felt like an accomplishment. Getting a +5 HP earring is exciting loot, not junk. Getting level 9 and getting my first spells was amazing. There's definitely something special about starting everything over from scratch.
Not sure yet whether it'll keep my attention in the long haul, but overall I'd say it's been a worthwhile experience so far.

Will you still be maining mage in January when you can get more vendor pets or will you have funded your dream twink by then?

its fun to start on a fresh server.
People confuse classic experience with launch experience tho.
There was no need to start at beta stage. The first few patches balanced a game that wasnt ready and fixed some bugs and exploits.
I am not convinced we had to emulate it.

I had my heart set on maiming a mage since green was announced. I’m in it for the long haul.

I'm a little disappointed at the increased spawn rate. I know, I know. Still, I spent a good portion of the weekend shuffling between three spots about 300 units apart that would each disgorge a mob every 80 seconds.

I'm enjoying it. Wouldn't mind them fudging things a little bit, taking out things that were really, really bad ideas like the severe penalty on hybrids (which includes two of the three tank classes). Life is hard enough for melees in this game.
Yes, it has. So much so that I unplugged my 32" 4K GeForce monitor and replaced it with a ViewSonic Professional Series PS790 CRT. The monitor was manufactured in 1999 so I'm in EQ Classic heaven right now!

It is awesome. For me I'm trying to live out experiences that I didn't get the first time around. Trying an ogre/shaman and been adventuring in Feerrott and Rathe Mountains, which I've basically never hung out in as a lowbie. Fun to see all the fatties running around!

I think he means that a server split is likely to mean that everyone follows the exact same leveling path as people have on Blue, so you will have tons of zones that are very sparsely populated and then a select few zones that everyone goes to

Im not playing right now because thought I was enjoying myself its not wise to spend my time playing everquest for scraps when I am going to get free exp in like 24 hours on a fresh server with empty zones.
Im a little disappointed by the snap, but oh well, thanos do what thanos do. :o

It's... PERFECT
Died in Befallen and lost a level, ran back and was wrecked by a hill giant someone trained to the cave with the entrance.
Hate and love... so close to each other.
To bad RL starts again tomorrow, but taking some days of was realy worth it.
