In a full group of 6 people killing dark blue mobs all the way from 2->50 starting with the same exp and ignoring exp penalties it would take:
13818 mobs.
If you kill 1 mob every minute this is roughly 230 hours of killing.
Solo it's 2775 dark blue mobs.
Anyone else ever done this math to check mine?

Base ZEM is 75, not 85.
You're ignoring penalties, but what about bonuses? I believe there's a small exp bonus for being in a group.
I now know this game is your life.

I think you'd have to do one of these for each penalty lol. In the classic era, pretty much every class has a penalty besides Rogues and Warriors I believe, which have a bonus.

Dark blue is not given a value. It's the level of the mob. A mob can be dark blue many levels below you and give different values of XP. Example -- I am level 15. A level 11 dark blue is much much lower XP than a level 14 dark blue.
I was wondering this exact thing recently. Thanks for the post!

For sure. In this case, Dark blue means 1 level below you.
I could add some fuzziness to the calculation by doing the average of the 3 levels below you.
What's the largest delta between PC and NPC that still qualifies as dark blue? I think it's 3...

It's probably a decent approximation to satisfy an idle curiosity, but don't take it as the gospel truth. =)

This varies by level See chart.

Oh wow it's as high as -13 in classic. That's intense.
Well for this math I did -1 level. That's probably pretty impractical at higher levels. Maybe I'll do some more interesting approximation at higher levels.
