bard can't use weapon and drum?

so my rusty scimitar in the main hand I can't use drum in off hand but if I take off the scimitar i can equip my drum in the off hand. Is this supposed to be like this? If so does it change when I get duel wield? Any info would be great

Yup, that is the way it was for a long time originally.

This is normal. The only instruments that allow you to equip weapons are main-hand-instruments.

That’s true, that’s just the way it is until Drums of the Beast in Velious.

I recommend hotkeying your Pri and Sec and two inventory slots so you can swap without opening your inventory. Only use 6 bags (or fewer).

Or … have one bag that hold your instruments that is close to your hotkeyed Primary and Secondary slots. Then you only have to keep one inventory slot open, and can swap all your instruments and weapons easily. You can even hotkey that inventory slot to open and close it.
