For the first time in...... pretty much ever I will not be playing an Erudite. I mean, I'll make an evil erudite cleric as an alt, but my main will be a human rogue from the Lawful city of Qeynos.

I'm not sure what my name will be yet, but I hope to see all of you Queynosians this weekend, rusty weapons in hand.

I wanted to do something different this time so starting in Qeynos too. I will be playing a Cleric with a Druid alt.

Literally half or more of people playing probably, even with the nerfs.

Why would they start in Qeynos? I thought this would be an unpopular place to start.

Not sure why you would think that. It is a very popular place with BB being right there and with all of the quests in the area. Also, players starting Barbarians and Erudites can leave their zones and come to Qeynos as well.

I shall be in Qeynos. Human Ranger so I start in Qeynos then have to go to Qeynos hills to get to Surefall Glade to trainer.

Because on Blue it was always a ghost town. I figured the isolation on that side would turn most off not having access to the Elf / Dwarf areas.

Pretty sure all Qeynos druid/ranger combos start in Surefall now.

If that is the case than that is fine too. Either way no biggy. They are close to each other.

Qeynos is the best starting area. I expect a total shit show, but I'll be there anyway.

I love Qeynos and I'll definitely be starting there. It's my favorite city in the game (except perhaps Paineel). You have iconic figures like Fippy Darkpaw and Holly Windstalker. Some great quests. Blackburrow. The list goes on...it's my favorite area in the game.

I completely agree, it's Qeynos & Paineel all the way for me, too. I also really enjoy Erudin. If the Warrens were live I might consider spending time in Odus, but it'll be a while before we can go kobold hunting.

I will be. Human ranger. We and druids get the earliest magic weapons in the game fastest which is helpful.

I just hope that Morin shadowbane is in the game at the beginning because he has to amazing Ranger weapons to give out at Mid levels

Yea - it's a shame Warrens weren't in at the start of the timeline. Without it (and Stonebrunt), there's sadly little reason to go to Odus.

There’s about a dozen gnolls between Halas and qeynos hills, people better have the other people play human shield for them if they plan on running there at out the gates!

I started in Qeynos on live in 2000. When I started on Blue it was right after Kunark had been released and I made a Half-elf Ranger (my main on live) and was incredibly disappointed that Blackburrow / Karanas were practically empty. I am hoping the Qeynos population stays relatively active for at least a month so I can have that nostalgia.

The alternative was to play a Troll / Ogre with a semi popular starting zone. I don't think I have ever seen more than 3 people in the Grobb, Oggok, Feerot, or the Swamp on Blue or on live. I think it would be fun to actually spend some time in these zones. However, the thought of leveling up a tank without a little bit of equipment assistance from an alt sounds daunting.

You lack knowledge. Perhaps a stroll through the Erudin Library would be most beneficial for you.

Pah! The library of Erudin pales in comparison to that of Paineel. Unlike our brethren in Erudin, we consider no knowledge 'forbidden'.

That's funny. I had almost the same experience. Started the same time, Half-elf Ranger (who was my main), and the zones were pretty empty compared to Freeport and Gfay newbie zones. I started on Firiona Vie, the RP server

The main advantage of starting on the Freeport side, on blue, is easy access to EC, free buffs and easy ports. Both of those ain't gonna be a thing for a while. So with those out the question, what does FP, Butcherblock, CB have that Qeynos, Blackburrow, and Qhills don't?
We even have our own Befallen over here, Kerra Isle.

The Qeynos area is definitely one of the better areas in the game for the first 15 or so levels. Blackburrow + Gnoll Fang turn in and Karana Bandits + Sash turn in are some of the better XP quests that also help raise some solid starter cash.

On Blue I think it's empty primarily because people have so much cash at this point that they can twink out their characters and give them a bunch of starting cash, plus buy things like CB/DF belts and bone chips to turn in to skip the first like 12-14 levels if they want. Those Qeynos turn in quests become a lot less OP in that case, but on a fresh server where everyone is broke they are quite lucrative.

Of course, the fact that the Surefall Glade port doesn't show up until basically deep into Velious also makes people on Blue prefer just to start elsewhere since it's a trek to Toxx or NK to get a port out. But I really do think it's primarily mudflation that has the Qeynos area quite deserted later on in a server's life-cycle.

Remember to watch out for the corrupt guards. They'll ruin your day.

I started in Sept 99 on Quellious, and Qeynos monk and the place had a lot of people...and again on Nameless when it opened later in 99 and Qeynos area was great with people.

But by mid 2000 or so people had gravitated towards Freeport - and avoided many camps in the karanas (Except bandits and a couple more?)..

For me though, Qeynos area is amazing, and blackburrow is the best newbie dungeon (Crushbone is just trash compared to it, really). :)

As we are in classic, let me also point out Qeynos creates better, hardened players (the trek from Qeynos to Freeport at early teen levels is a rite of passage :P) compared to the Faydwer trash err players :D
