View Full Version : How Hardcore Will You Play?

How challenging will you play?

Anyone else planning on turning off NPC names? In the dark, it makes hunting atmospheric and scary, especially in Tox. All you see are silhouettes moving against the faint line of the horizon, as you try to determine what they are by how they move. The one issue is sound. Rats have the same thunderous footfalls as ogres and will scare the crap out of you in the dark.

I also strongly considered playing in 640 x 480 and setting the UI up close to how the original was. You can get remarkably close if you set textures to r-50 b-50 g-50 and the chat window to a nice tan color. The spell book is a tad big, but close enough to fill the window. My problem is that if I run in full screen the graphics become pixelated. Still...I'm thinking about it.

And of course I won't use the internet. No checking maps, or quests. I even tried going super old-school and refused to look up spells. I'm planning on playing a chanter. I've never had one before. Most of these spells are just names to me. Color Flux? Taper Enchantment? What the heck are they? The only way to find out is to try them and see what they do.

Anyone else?

is 18-24 hour play sessions hardcore enough?

Ha! I've already failed to con. Who knew a rat could con yellow!
Sadly, the router failure may take care of itself. Technology remains fickle even 20 years later.

Hardcore = hours played in a row?
Interesting idea, but no, I was speaking of the difficulty of gameplay.

I just got the go for holidy next week ("almost" got my go).

So:
turning of lights so i can't see my cats roaming around.
That will be scrary when they jump me ready to attack becaus they are hungry.

put lots of prepared food on my desk wich makes it interesting what i have in my hands if it is dark.

AFK for bio: not needed becaus i can't see a shit.

But, there i remember:
i am going to be a DE, YAY !

TBH:
I am playing the game "right-out-of-the-box" as it is offered by the def team in 1900 x something

I disagree. Making the game more challenging is more hardcore than just dumping time into it to race to 50. Dumping time makes it even less challenging by reducing competition once you get ahead of the curve.

I am not going to make things harder by minimizing the UI or ignoring technological advances. I will just spend unhealthy amounts of time on Green.

I'm going to buy like ten rotisserie chickens and just eat them out of the bag with my hands while I camp stuff and grind, nothing but grease and the smell of victory on my keys losers.

I don't know I'm getting a bit burnt out already just messing around with my druid on green. Only level 30, too.

Ive spent my life alienating friends and family so I will have zero disturbances next week.

Is that hardcore?

I did all the hardcore server first stuff on Blue, and a dozen other EQ servers. It's going to be nice to be able to enjoy P99 casually. I might even roll a ranger!

(Although we'll see how long that lasts until I decide to roll an Enchanter to farm Djarn for a week straight)

AH, that would emulate my experiences back in 1999 nicely. :)

I'll be playing without a monitor, the intent is to simulate the human experience should the sun never rise again!

I am going to start a fisherman, gathering all of my items solely through fishing, selling what I catch, and purchasing what I need. Take me off the group split please, and I'll skip my turn at looting.

I am gonna inhale paint fumes to destroy most of my brain cells, with any luck and by using selective tin foil shielding I can damage the memory parts that tie in with EQ. Then I will wrap my router in lead to ensure I get classic disconnects.

I will then use cardboard to block out most of my UI so I have that lovely slightly larger than a flashcard viewing screen and will make sure to attack everything without /con.

I feel like doing this I can make sure I die and rage quit every 2-5 minutes.

I want to play close to hardcore but it's been awhile since I last played (2007) and I am level 5 in beta and trying to relearn things. I can say, with complete honesty, that WoW is so easy compared to EQ. Seriously, I have played WoW since 2008 and EQ at lvl 5 is harder than WoW at every level 1-120.

I am going to enjoy the leveling process and waste time "hail"ing everyone I see, even players. I did the push to 50 multiple times and you always end up sitting around waiting for others or helping others get ready for raids.

I want to be the guy who gets to level 50 or 49 or 48 just in time to make a raid. The guy who goes down to Lguk and there is already a group looking for another.
