I just cancelled my WoW subscription and Pantheon won't be coming out until 2050 at the earliest probably and I was thinking of giving P99 a shot on this new server. I played EQ from 2000-2007 and only left because of the big changes made to the game that made it different than the EQ I really enjoyed. Is there a lifespan to Green and is it possible that I would be able to put many years into my toon here?

Unfortunately, this and WoW Classic look to be the only MMORPGs that mirror the OG MMOs that are playable these days. (I think) Gotta find a MMO home, getting that EverCrack twitch just thinking about the possibility.

Feel free to get comfortable here! It will be around for a long, long, long time.

Lol@ Pantheon will be released in 2050. Seems that way.

It's an odd situation in that "green" has a finite lifespan, but your character does not: At the end of the server's lifecycle (several years, at least) characters will be switched to the "blue" server and remain available for use in the Velious-era setting. "green" itself would start anew presumably as green 2.0.

* January 2020: Plane of Fear
* April 2020: Plane of Hate
* May 2020: Temple of Solusek Ro opens / Legacy items cease to drop
* August 2020: Plane of Sky
* November 2020: Ruins of Kunark
* April 2021: Epics
* July 2021: Scars of Velious
* The above list is not exhaustive; each month will have unlocks of patches from March 1999 to December 2001.

Green Lifetime
The green server will, at a time yet to be decided, eventually merge into blue and start over again. This merge will not happen until at least 6 months after the last patch in velious (No earlier than January 2023).

This place has been around for 10+ years, welcome. Hope you have as much fun as I did when I found it.

Hopefully a long time, the full 4 years. I guess it depends on the players. I am really excited to play it, I like blue but I joined late in the game, and everyone being super twinked does not feel classic to me. I am really excited to play Green with everyone starting out even.

That said the social aspect is huge to me, so I think if the server ends up being dead I will probably quit. But I am hoping for a huge number of people who just want to experiance the classic EQ of our youths again. I for one am excited to raid Naggy and Vox while still in banded armor.

It won't be dead! It may fall off a bit due to players not being able to handle the classic aspects of the game, but we should always have a healthy population on green.

Green will be around until it merges into blue and starts anew.

They mentioned the possibility of multiple green servers if needed. I kind of doubt that things would go so far as to have two green servers due to population, especially because they’d almost certainly merge back together after the initial frenzy, which would probably double the legacy items.

I think more likely would be the possibility of a second green server launching before the first one is done. Then the more neckbeardly players will probably press their advantage and want to realize the value of the neckbearding already done, and perhaps the second one would be a little less intense? Maybe call it the Light Green 99. Would be important to not allow simultaneous use on multiple green servers IMO. But I’m certifiably crazy so whatever.

As crazy as this might sound one of the hardest decisions I ever made in 2007 was finally leaving EQ. The game was changing and the guild I was in was slowly dying off due to player attrition and not being able to raid. We were in Gates of Discord progression I think. Tried a few MMOs after that.

Neverwinter
Dark Age of Camelot
Final Fantasy Online
World of Warcraft
Vanguard SoH

None came close to EQ and from 2008 till now I only have my Hunter in WoW but only played for the battlegrounds. My original EQ Magelo is still online after all of these years haha https://eq.magelo.com/profile/1361726
Note the last update shows 2007!

On the Pantheon forums I posted and asked that the devs make a good enough MMO I can play for about the next 20 or 30 years into old age. Tired of jumping between MMORPGs that constantly change and rebuilding characters in different games and trashing all the hard work. Keep P99 up for 20+ years I'd probably stay.

So this place is very long lasting so far and had a flawless track record of not destroying peoples toonage.

Definitely it is the place to be.

Awesome, happy to hear that. I will definitely be ready for launch. I have Titanium installed and tested to make sure the replacement files work and they do so I have things ready to go.
