View Full Version : Spells: Shadowknight spells need adjustments to be timeline-correct

This is to ensure SK spell progression is timeline-accurate.

Here is the Shadowknight spell list from EQLizer from May 5th, 1999:

Some differences are evident with Blue and I've correlated them with patch histories.

1. SK spell changes in late May, 1999

In late May, 1999 the following changes took place (from patch msg):

- ShadowKnights and Necromancers gain the Word of Spirit spell (replacing Word of Shadow for the ShadowKnight)

- ShadowKnights lose Haunting Corpse and gain Summon Dead

- Necromancers and ShadowKnights get a new spell - Shadow Vortex.

- ShadowKnights lose Intensify Death (replaced by Shadow Vortex)


So SKs (and necros) need these spell list adjustments until this era.

2. SKs don't get lifetaps until October, 1999

Before October 27th 1999 patch, SKs did not have lifetaps. They had three other spells instead:

Shadowknights may now use the following spells:

- LifeTap may now be cast at level 9.

- LifeSpike may now be cast at level 15.

- LifeDraw may now be cast at level 30. The LifeTap, LifeSpike, and LifeDraw
spell scrolls may be purchased from any ShadowKnight spell vendor. To make
room for these new spells, the following spells are no longer available for
ShadowKnights:

- Reclaim Energy

- Mend Bones

- Voice Graft


This correlates to the EQLizer spell list, and with Brad's end of year post stating they added lifetaps to SKs:

SHADOWKNIGHTS:

+ Spell changes (added lifetap)
+ Made Harm Touch less resistible
+ Added innate resistance to poison and disease
- DOTs changed negatively, making Kiting less efficient
+ DoT changed positively to enhance group play
+ Added more Class Specific Quests
+ Added more Class Specific Items
+/- Feign Death Changes - Better for Low Level Character, Better for High Level once learning curve has passed
+ Made Certain Spells Harder to Resist (c.f. Invoke Fear)
+ Changes to Pet Appearances



Summation of Changes to be Made

At launch, SKs should have:

1) Reclaim Energy (lvl9) instead of Lifetap (lvl9)
2) Mend Bones (lvl15) instead of Lifespike (lvl15)
3) Voice Graft (lvl30) instead of Lifedraw (lvl30)
4) Intensify Death (lvl39) instead of Shadow Vortex (lvl39)
5) Haunting Corpse (lvl49) instead of Summon Dead (lvl49)
6) Word of Shadow (lvl49) instead of Word of Spirit (lvl49)

Haunting Corpse should replace Summon Dead on SK spell vendors, and Intensify Death should be added.

In May 1999, #4, #5, and #6, should reverse, and Summon Dead should replace Haunting Corpse on SK vendors, and Intensify Death should be removed.

Then in October 1999 era we should get #1, #2, and #3 reversed.
