View Full Version : Poll: What will be your early leveling region be in Green?

Following up on some previous polls, this is designed to get a rough sense of the geographical spread of forumquesters. The idea is that we're focusing on the tween times, after the immediate newbie yard but before the mid/endgame hotspots.
EDIT: wow, too bad you can't edit post titles, two adverb Garfo over here!

No poll here, but you can pretty much tell by where people start normally. Especially with no binding other characters at launch.

I've always loved the Qeynos area. Wisps in the hills, rabid wolves and bears, the city as a whole, blackburrow (trains of doom), the random emptiness of most of the karanas. But I'm kinda leaning towards cleric atm, which means halfling, which would be a pretty harrowing journey to Qeynos with no binders available for a day or two.

I'm playing a druid because I've never created one in any era, or any emulator.... so probably starting in Kelethin but i don't see how that continent can even hold the amount of players starting there for very long. Unrest will be unplayable after 50 people are in the zone (even with slow killing and 3 yard groups) Think about early levels 12-24..... 1 MR group, 3 Yard groups, 1 FP group, 1 Bar group. not sure it could hold much more.
I am hoping to leave Faydwar pretty early after trying my hand at Crushbone a bit just because of the insane XP, although I anticipate it being uninhabitable pretty quickly.
Maybe trying to stick it out in LFay/Crushbone/Unrest/Dagnors until 14 when I get charm and then head off to karana land.

Crushbone belt exp is pretty dang good.
I leveled a character to 16 just with crushbone belts.

Expect something closer to five yard groups, MR group, backdoor group, round room group, FP group, magus group, hand group, bar group, tower group, and at least 3 basement groups.
Groups will be camping literally 3-5 mobs each so expect some EXTREMELY slow leveling if you goto unrest. It was bad even on TLP servers with multiple instances of Unrest.

Do it! I started on p99 blue last year and did this for the same reasons. Had the best time, I’m sure it will be even better on green.

Steamfont > Crushbone? > Unrest?
honestly not sure if I will stay on Faydwer very long, but i'll start there and stay until at least level 12 and Bind Affinity.
I understand the begining will be madness, and i'm super looking forward to it ^o^

There is like a zillion mobs in the Karana's and the respawn time is 6 minutes, (except West Karana) I think that area caters towards a ton of people.

Why would humans get an experience bonus? The only race that gets an experience bonus at any time is halfling and it was only 5%.

Humans never at any point had an exp bonus even though the manual that came with the original game said they do. The developers mistakenly gave the exp bonus to halflings.

Going to play a monk in Qeynos and will turn the music on for the first time since 2000 while playing, just to hear that glorious Qeynos Gates music.
A little worried about the popularity of the BB/Qeynos area though. BB is going to be EPIC... we'll have camp checks, with actually spots called, which haven't been in who knows how many years - elite ledge, snakes, commander, brewer(?) etc..

Melee better lace up their track shoes. You will be running from one end of the newbie yard to the other trying to engage a bat or bee before the casters take them down from way behind the fog. Those first few levels in the Felwithe front yard is hilarious watching the mages, wizards and enchanters shoot from the hip while the yellow robed paladins run helplessly from mob to mob hoping to get some scraps.

Until you compare this with the Race poll and realize that one of the polls must be inaccurate.
>30% of people starting in Odus based on race, but <20% leveling in Odus? I don't think so!
This poll, like the others, is for mind games to try and convince your opponents to start somewhere else!

For real tho, if I don't see everyone in full 6-man group in the newbie yards I will grunt very loudly.
You just do exactly the same thing, with a 10% xp bonus.
I hope everyone is not just planning to solo the early levels...!?

I hope so too, not only because I plan on playing a rogue, but also because as the higher levels start happening you are gonna start needing those groups more if you want the good stuff since we won't have a really deep market for items.
Those friends you make at the early levels can make all the difference later on.

Easily explainable. Qeynos area is actually a great leveling area if there is population. So I’d imagine a ton of people want to make Erudites but also want a better starting experience so they’re gonna boat to Qeynos.

Shouldn't Highpass / Runnyeye be moreso Misty / Kithicor?
Neither Highpass nor Runny are "early". More like 15+. Or 10+ at a bare minimum.
Same with UGuk / CT. CT is not an early zone...

Based on all of the options, it seems like OP defines "early" as like the first 20 levels or so of the game. I.e. what general area do you plan to spend the first 1/3-50% of the game in, if any.
Personally, as I plan to try an Enchanter for the first time, I am planning to bounce around. Since I have to go to HK at level 8 for my pet spell, I'll start on Faydwer and then do the next several levels in Befallen/Orc camps or in BB/Karanas (since I'll be swinging by Qeynos after HK to do parts of the Stein of Moggok quest).

Plenty of early plat to be made leveling on bandits, sash quest tough to beat.
If I were troll/ogre, I'd consider Lake Rathe bandits, nice spot next Rathe Mountains zone line. Can't do the sash quest but ogre merchants next to a bandit camp is pretty nice. Also a good lidzardman spot in Rathe Mountains near vendors, could also farm those big beetles but i'm not sure when they were added. Some other decent early-ish lizardman/orc camps in these zones. I assume all the prime spots will be shit shows early on, gotta start thinking about spots the masses won't run to. Not sure what these zones were like at launch though, might be completely different for all I know.
I use to consider places while leveling for a "no bullshit/out of the way" leveling guide for groups, sadly a lot of places were on Kunark.

IIRC, those Bandits actually do occasionally drop the sashes, so technically you could do the sash quest. The issue becomes that the sashes don't stack and it's a long run to Qeynos once your inventory is full of them...so if you're trying to min/max your EXP and cash per hour for instance, it might be better just to stay and keep killing bandits and selling their loot to the Ogre merchants instead of running to Qeynos. The camp at 7 is honestly one of the better camps in the game IMO because you can bind at the Lake Rathe Arena and you have merchants right there to vendor.

Not for a half-elf - they require medium sized armor and nearly every mob on Faydwer drops small armor. The only armor molds are for small sized toons, so your only option for armor, while staying on Faydwer is tattered/patchwork from the cats in steamfont.
Qeynos (with Karana as the deity) would be the best choice in my opinion...

Vanilla so much better, when armor size was a real consideration for how you could gear up, because banded and bronze were the good stuff.
For a ranger you should be tunare for later diety specific stuff.
I will be doing the Feerot/Rathe/CT route. I just like the chill of it.
