Hey guys. I was kind of tired to see all the people complaining about names for Green, so I went and did some math. I just thought, "hey i think these guys have no idea how crazy 15^26 is of a number..." so let's start.

Here is the actual number of available names for one server (C^21+V^5):

4 letters (incl. at least 1 vowel) 10,460,353,204
5 letters (incl. at least 1 vowel) 4,398,046,511,105
6 letters (incl. at least 2 vowel) 4,398,046,511,136
7 letters (incl. at least 2 vowel) 476,837,158,203,157
8 letters (incl. at least 2 vowel) 21,936,950,640,377,900
9 letters (incl. at least 2 vowel) 558,545,864,083,284,000
10 letters (incl. at least 3 vowel) 558,545,864,083,284,000
11 letters (incl. at least 3 vowel) 9,223,372,036,854,780,000
12 letters (incl. at least 3 vowel) 109,418,989,131,512,000,000
13 letters (incl. at least 3 vowel) 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000
14 letters (incl. at least 4 vowel) 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000
15 letters (incl. at least 4 vowel) 7,400,249,944,258,160,000,000

Total is 9,520,031,819,749,050,000,000

Now let's say that only one out of 100,000 of these available names are pronouncable and useable. That is 0.001%. That should remove Mr. Vvuw and Wrftakliofcdertu from the list. Kind of but bear with me.

4-letters: 10,460,353
5-letters: 4,398,046,511
6-letters: 4,398,046,511
7-letters: 476,837,158,203
8-letters: 21,936,950,640,378
9-letters: 558,545,864,083,284
10-letters: 558,545,864,083,284
11-letters: 9,223,372,036,854,780
12-letters: 109,418,989,131,512,000
13-letters: 1,000,000,000,000,000,000
14-letters: 1,000,000,000,000,000,000
15-letters: 7,400,249,944,258,160,000

The total of that is 9,520,031,819,749,040,000

Now Blue99 had reached 1,000,000 toons at some point in the past, and this is the number that had people freak out that we might be in some name shortage crisis. OH MY GOD ONE MILLION OF THE BEST NAMES ARE TAKEN.

So hey let's say that each server produce... 1,000,000,000 characters. One billion. Sure why not?

So it will take 9,520,031,820 iterations of green to use up all pronouncable names.

One Green server is about 5 years? So this will take 47,600,159,099 years to reach.

But we are elitists and we only want the best of the best right?
Sure, let's cut that to another 0.001%, 1 out of 100,000 of these names.

It will take 47,600,159 years.
47 million years.

To reach 1/100,000th of the name bank of the best 1/100,000th of names, it will take us about 5,000 times the length of all mankind's history.

I just made an account yesterday with 8 toons all named 4-letter long names starting with Vo__. Just to test it out. There are 676 versions of 4-letter names starting with Vo. I could probably name all my toons Vo__ forever and never have to worry again for all my lifetime.

You will all be fine, stop asking the devs to work for you for free just cause you wanted to name your toon Legolas and it's already taken.

Please. Stop. Freaking. Out.
We still have about a million year before we can start even thinking about panicking.

Thank you ♡

Check out this link for the number of words for each letter count.

The numbers are a tad bit lower than you reference.

https://www.quora.com/How-many-4-letter-words-exist-in-English

How many of words are there of different sizes in that dictionary?

# Case-sensitive results
# To address why there are 52 1-letter words.
# macOSX considers each letter a separate word
# so -> 26 * 2 ( for upper and lower cases)
1 letter words -> 52
2 letter words -> 160
3 letter words -> 1420
5 letter words -> 10230
4 letter words -> 5272
8 letter words -> 29989
7 letter words -> 23869
9 letter words -> 32403
6 letter words -> 17706
11 letter words -> 26013
10 letter words -> 30878
12 letter words -> 20462
14 letter words -> 9765
16 letter words -> 3377
15 letter words -> 5925
20 letter words -> 198
19 letter words -> 428
17 letter words -> 1813
13 letter words -> 14939
18 letter words -> 842
21 letter words -> 82
22 letter words -> 41
23 letter words -> 17
24 letter words -> 5

------------------

How many of those words would people want as their name? I suspect those numbers are a small fraction of these numbers.

Dictionary words != names... words like: Juul, Talep, Findar or whatever makes a perfectly fine name, not in a dictionary.

Even if I lower my percentage to 0.00001% of possible combination of letters (and i didn't do 4^26, so i already filtered out a lot of consonant mashups), which is one in ten millions, it would still take about 90,000 iterations of Green to take 0.01% of these names.

It's honestly flabergastingly high as a number the possibilities that we still have open.
You just have to think of a name for your character, not a gimmick word that people will go, "Oh, good one :)" when they see it.

If anything, this will slightly protect immersion.
Well.
Slightly.
People are still the usual dumbasses they are ^^;

Hell, some people even name their character after a city they lived in or something. losers.

Common words and phrases that would not be found in the time, place and setting of EverQuest (e.g. Switchblade, Phaser, Toaster, Cannabis).
Names of religious, occult, or significant historic origin (e.g. Jesus, Allah, Satan, Stalin).
Shut it down, mods. I'm sure he can find another name from the 565,341,123,140 perfectly mathematically acceptable ones.

Just to be clear, that was a jab at myself ;) I'm not a witch hunter for names.

I suspect those names are less desirable than names like:

John, Shawn, Robert, Legolas etc.

Just because you can arrange letters into many different combinations doesn't mean even 0.00001% are desirable. I'd add many more 0s before the 1.

I named my irl daughter lilllliiilliiiiliana. Are you saying that her name isn't up to your vowel to consonant ratio requirements to be desirable?
