I think it’s important to block players accessing both servers simultaneously.
First it is a measure of population control and server loading. By forcing players to pick only one server they can be logged in on, you reduce the total load servers and zones are experiencing.
Second it will help secure a more classic experience. As anyone who has played on TLP servers or other boxing Emus can tell you, when people are splitting their attention it’s a far less immersive experience as you see half your PuG not talking while they’re all busy racing to some raid target on another server. If players want to raid on Blue they should have to log off Green and vice versa.
Lastly it will prevent a lot of camps from being locked down. There are plenty of boring sit in one spot and kill one or two mobs every cycle camps in EQ. Efreeti, Frenzied Ghoul, Ancient Cyclops, Ancient Crocodile, Pained Soul, Rotting Skeleton, King Tranix, Hierophant Prime Grekal, just to name a few. People will inevitably level on Green while they AFK camp these blue mobs until green progresses far enough where people can do it on green too. This will occupy a lot of valuable camps that players want but can’t get access to because you have a bunch of neckbeards AFK claiming the camp while they’re busy on another server.
I hope there is some mechanical way they can prevent the same IP from accessing both Blue and Green servers simultaneously. If it launches as is I fear that even if players are not boxing multiple people in a single group it will feel more like you’re playing with robots rather than individual players because they’re often splitting their attention between two characters in a quest for even more pixels.
