900k? Seriously thought, I only ever have like 15k max at a time.
How does someone do this?

First they loot a rusty dagger, then sometime later they farm multiple fungi's.

Little at a time for a long time. P99's closing on ten years old.

P99 legitimately is my first EQ experience. I started playing about a year ago.

Seems like I've crossed paths with more and more new or very inexperienced players in the last few months than ever before on p99. Not sure why, but seems to be the case.

Yah...even very casual players have managed to squirrel away small fortunes just by dripping plat into their bank over many years.

Play a Rogue, you get invited to all of the cash camps and can just show up and roll for that bling.

People may wander in that are new, but there is a wiki readily available with everything you need to know. And guides on how to make plat, BiS gear, etc...

The wiki isn't going to teach you how to make 900k.

Yeah making 'some' plat is easy. Making bulk plat really isn't something you can pick up from the info that's publicly spread about.

People who no-lifed the shit out of the original EQ came to P99 knowing every single item that would eventually be removed from the game and skyrocket in value. So they came here and no-lifed the fuck out of those camps and got rich.
Then they locked down epic items for years on end, putting character completion behind a huge wall of neckbearded plat, causing many otherwise healthy players to farm inordinate sums of money to pay the ransom.
Server is a decade old + the above for years on end = hyperinflated shitty mess of an economy. It's been a race to the bottom since the very beginning.

And will be with every new server. Requires a new game but they don't make these anymore. At best they will get a pantheon eq-lite DAOC gameplay type of thing with many of the things we complain about (but keeps us here) removed for comfort and ease.

I'll start out by saying that I agree with much of what you said in the rest of your comment. Your hyperinflation comment, however, is only really true for some extreme top-end cases. Epic MQs, epic tradeables? Sure, I'll give you those. For the overwhelming majority of items, however, you are going to be able to find them cheaper on P99 than you ever would have been able to on live in 2000. A jade mace for 700p? I used to sell those for 10k back in 2000. A fungi for 55k? More like 80k. Cloak of Flames for 50k? Easily 75k-100k+ on live.
With very few exceptions, the P99 economy is actually massively deflated due to the over farming and top-heaviness of the server. I can give someone 10k right now to twink a monk and the gear you could get would run you 40-50k on live at the very least.

The other issue you had on live in 2000 was that most of the high-end stuff was effectively priceless because there was no way anyone was going to sell it. You weren't going to find Flayed Barb Leggings for 900k in 2000 because you were unlikely to find them at all.
People don't realize how easy they have it on p99 sometimes. You could level a druid to group porting levels, bind at Hammer Hill, and make 10k in a week or two if you really go at it. That 10k would go really far compared to live2k.

I legit recall a guy in EC ranting in /ooc pre-Kunark about a guy from Ring of Valor selling his COF, 60k iirc. Same argument about a lousy economy. I think he was just angry cause he couldn't buy it or trade for it.

Yep. That guys COF back on live was essentially priceless at the time. You would have had to trade some really nice, rare, items for it.
My guild buddy Xavier had 1,000pp in his bank. We legit considered him EQ Rich.

Money bags Xavier.
Geared in what would be considered twink tier garbage today, had all his spells. Not a single piece of planar armor, paw of oppala and some crappy quest scimitar.
Top guild druid, he was badass. Guy is geared out, max xp and has a 1kpp cushion to sit on.

The economy is actually pretty stable...it just isn't at all like it was on live. But what did you expect? Its a static emulator server...obviously the economy isn't going to play out over ten years how it played out on live.
There was a time here when buying a CoF was a hard thing too...and selling one was grounds for server wide ranting. It was 8 years ago, but it didn't happen here too.
Short of starting a new server I don't know how they could really correct for this without making severe changes to game play. Even on the new green server, despite the fact that it will be more accurate to the era because of releasing content on the actual time line this go around, the economy will eventually be in the same boat.

Back then the average pleb didn't have auction trackers and that would have massively lowered prices. You pretty much paid rares that were in line with whoever's the hell played during your hours.
Let's not forget duped play on p99 too.

Yeah, for sure. I ported for plat a bit on live too during Luclin and PoP era and people didn't tip nearly what they do on P99 either. I was always getting 10-15p tips compared to the often 50p+ on p99. So the money here is faster, and it goes further.

That's not entirely true. When someone buys aow pants from a guild like aftermath, that 900k gets spent on recharges and bind sessions. I'd wager a single recharge session costs AM around 100-200k (once a week?) and a bind sessions probably 200-400k (once a month?)
There's a good way to get some pp out of the system.
