Hate to break it to ya but when you get to level 22 it becomes stupidly easy
Panic animal opens up lots of solo options at many levels
Harmony makes you a god/goddess puller in outdoor zones such as mistmoore, highkeep, mistmoore again, CoM and karnors, ya know, the popular zones

Rangers are fun to play though. I do agree that an untwinked one is like tissue paper while leveling, and is a turn off. I know people around here hate luclin, but I'm not sure why. Your char does get exponentialy more powerful, but that's the point of an RPG like EQ. Get cool shit so you can do cool shit. All you guys still farming ToV should understand that.

Rangers are pretty fun. You don’t have to fear kite, since fear kiting is terribly fucking boring. You just need to choose the right targets. Tolan’s bracer is essential though.

Yea Wizard is terrible in Velious but OK again after that. And fine in classic and Kunark.

BFG / Trueshot over 2 mins is equal or better than a disced rogue... except when it isn't, but seeing a #1 ranger ever is pretty magical. TS instead of WS is dumb imo though.

The early era they had no clue how it would all play out. With AA they came to be pretty awesome.

I’m under the impression these first two xpacs was a total shot in the dark when it comes to development etc. doubt they hated hybrids but was unsure how to balance them compared to the pure classes.

Class “balancing” was an ongoing activity. I don’t think anyone ever was truly happy. Remember when SKs finally got more necro-like mana pools? That was a big help. But sometimes it was at the expense of other classes. I can’t sure anything right now though. Fuzzy old man memory.

But yeah, AAs were ultimately an equalizer of sorts. Of course then the truly dedicated/hardcore/sad players loaded the shit out of AAs and created a different kind of chaos.
