So I'm in Seb today on my 51 rogue Wisling and managed to get into a fantastic group camping king (yes 51 is crazy low for king camp but with epic I held my own dps wise averaging about 50 dps). We were there killing away for 6+ hours without any problems at all, except horrible luck with king. Group starts getting a bit tired so we decide to stay for a last few ph's to try our luck.

With one last spawn before we split up and take a break, having just sacrificed our chanter, Mindz (who did a fantastic job all day), to the Sebilis gods, King spawns for us finally. While killing one of the last (quite possibly last) mob around before pulling king we hit some bad luck....enchanter gets smoked by his hasted krup that was parsing at 120 ish dps average, the adept we have almost dead manages to get off a gate despite our best efforts to push / interrupt him so we camp out as many as possible quickly to save a full wipe. We log back in with only the enchanter and tank having died so we recover really quick with almost no interruption.

While I was dragging our poor meatshield back to camp (brain room just off jail) I notice a monk screwing around with spawns / king and politely let him know its camped in case he missed the umpteen thousand times we called king in ooc for each CC check. This is our brief parley.

Honestly I wasn't surprised by his response but I will admit I was still shocked that there really are people that pathetic on this server that would even have this line of thinking, let alone say it out loud or follow through on it. Its a truly sad world when greed over pixels reaches this level.

Anyways, we carry on with our pulls. While killing a mob our monk comes back to dps some, and in my opinion, extremely strangely 2 myconids warp onto him....6+ hours of him pulling and keeping an eye on his agro from pulls so he doesn't train us....honestly I am not blaming anyone at all for this but it just seemed very odd to me is all. These 2 extra adds ended up taking us out, killing off the enchanter (who had almost no mana to start the fight), the tank and the monk while myself the cleric and shaman manage to exit the zone alive.

Now everyone can lawyerquest this next part all they want, we wiped so camp isn't ours etc etc....

From this partial wipe we recovered and were back inside the jail in under 10 minutes.

In that 10 min recovery time, the monk Siryado from Venerate (a guild which I have complete respect for and have had nothing but positive interactions with), Talthan (rogue from Clue) and Juuh (unguilded shammy) had moved in and started pulls. Interesting bonus douchebag points for Siryado....the enchanter in the group he was leap frogging / ganking king from....is in his guild! Who the hell jacks a guildy like that. Even better though, he actually had the @#$@# audacity to ask his guildy to help them get a cleric down to help with king....like wow, that's some next level asshole.

We sat in jail waiting to see if they'd wipe because our group didn't consist of the same unethical, zero moral, greedy blood. They did end up killing the king....with Siryado telling me King dropped a robe which none of us really cared about....what I did find humerous was that they were seen in EC auctioning a Fungi not 10 minutes later.

To clarify: Not meaning that OP is a fool or anything like that. It took me a few times of getting shafted pretty hard (lending out 5k+ gear to people and never seeing it again, doing an extended deal for someone and them not delivering on their end, et cetera) to realize that P99 population isn't much different than the real world in regard to morality.

There are exceptions, I guess, but you have to know who to trust.

Dangling the chance of a 48k tunic drop in front of someone is going to bring out the worst in them if they even have any semblance of asshole running through their veins.

I raided hardcore in a top guild on live from kunark through prophecy of ro...I'm used to cut throat and douchebags and high end cash campus etc, but there was still a modicum of common decency.
The majority of responses here as well ad other similar posts displays precisely where the problem lies. ..the mere fact that this is considered the norm and is accepted by the community at large is where the issue lies.
Trust me, I won't be losing any sleep over this....the part that blew me away the most was that he steamrolled over a guild member to do it.

It sucks OP, but the rules are that way for a reason. Long ago, people ruined it for the rest of us, we can’t have nice things, etc.

Basically the “you die/zone you give up camp” rule exists for a reason, I’m assuming to combat people who would otherwise completely monopolize a camp. We apparently have had exceptionally sick individuals monopolize spawns for days on end too. So yeah, it would be nice if people could just be adults, take turns, leave a camp after a reasonable laying session etc. but they can’t be adults so here we are.

As for agnarr server...I played on Ragefire in the top guild. I remember the dipshit guide / GM that implemented that stupid "DPS" race bullshit because they were to lazy to do their job....I eventually quit late kunark because I got tired of the constant batphones at 3 am to blast Trak to cockblock everyone else out of VP....so many teeth destroyed or on alts lol (increased spawn rate he was up basically daily). Honestly I mind that much less for raids but xp camps in my opinion should still have some semblance of civility.

Project 1999 is overcrowded, so everyone plays hardball. It's amazing to me that people are still willing to track, 3AM batphone, and generally go hard in the paint 10 years after the server launched, but they are. Since quite a few raid loots are for sale (Aikons will trade you a Gharn's rock for a mere 500 fungi tunics) there isn't much difference between the cash camps and the raiding scene. Conversely, TAKP is underpopulated and so most people are pretty relaxed about camps and leapfrogging and such.

It has nothing to do with the people and everything to do with the environment. If it helps you any, from what I hear things are relatively better now.

Sorry - it sucks but the monk and his group were not in the wrong. Technically, they could have taken the camp the first time with the tank/enc wipe if you were not holding things down. If you're not maintaining a physical presence in the area and actively killing spawns, it's open to other people.

That said, if it was me I wouldn't have taken the camp as I would have known that you were recovering from a wipe. But not everyone is me, and someone else probably would've tried to take it anyway because of how highly contested it is.

Conversely hard line rules like this encourage training 'accidents' to take camp. Not everyone runs fraps 24/7 while camping non raid shit and even if they do it's not hard to cause totally 'random' trains.

I mean king is on constant lock down but it's also not like there is a lineup of groups sitting and waiting in line. Everyone talks about how cut throat LIVE was, but the server population was also wayyyyy higher, people were arguing over entrance trash, resources were limited.

P99 there is basically at any moment multiple PP camps folks can go to. Just relax guys, ask for a ETA and a heads up when they are leaving and farm elsewhere while you wait. If you think they can't handle the target give them a second shot.

Save the lawyer questing for raids and just play like EQ karma is real.

The first 'wipe' honestly I wouldn't even call a wipe...tank and chanter dropped, we logged out and in and monk picked up tanking while war and chanter rebuffed. The actual wipe where monk tank and chanter died...from looking at logs it looks like clerics cheal was just about to finish on the tank as charm broke and smoked the chanter so couldn't heal him quick enough, it happens to the best. What was weird though was the 2 shrooms that warped into camp...6+ hours of the monk not bringing more than intended into camp, I couldn't count the amount of times he was saying 'brb making sure I don't have agro"....and 2 warp onto him. I'm not saying anything nefarious happened that wiped us, it was just extremely strange and suspicious especially considering the timing and having seen the other monk tagging and flopping the spawns when I dragged the warrior on the first death.

On my server on live I still remember the names of a couple guys that got blacklisted for this type of shit. (Mith marr). Lurk and Emrok were a couple wizards who liked KSing and ninja looting. The rest of the server didn’t approve of their behavior, and they had a tough time doing much because of that. In fact, past classic, I didn’t see them around much. The problem is so many people on this server have a “hey it happened to me too, it’s the rules”
Mentality. If people actually held these people to a standard of reasonable behavior, banded together, and made their lives shitty to reciprocate this type of stuff, maybe it would keep people honest.

I've camped King a disgusting amount of hours. I have been Siryado in this same exact scenario, and I've also been you in this scenario.

One time, Dojah and I were just chilling in seb when we realized king was up. I went down to check if it was camped.. it was.. but the group there was in the process of wiping to, what I guess, was king out mobs spawning. Dojah got down to king out by rooting the entire jail, and camping out, which in itself had a low margin of error. I solo'd the mob that did them in with like 12% hp remaining, he got into king out, I pulled king, we get it slowed first try.

It was going smoothly.. king was at about 50%.. until the hallway mob popped and agro'd us. Of course it was an ilis wizard. I agro'd the mob, because Dojah was already at like 5% mana and canni dancing his ass off. He finally rooted it, and it proceeded to fucking chain cast ice comet on me. I got down to less than 10% at least 4 times. Somehow we kill king, he insta loots and we zone out, with probably 40% health between the two of us. King dropped not only a Fungi, but a 5k spell too. Outside of maybe a couple raids here, it was the most adrenaline pumping 10 minutes I've ever played in any MMO.

I might seem like an asshole, but there has been many times I've just popped online and helped the king camp out for 30 minutes just dicking around outside of group, and showing other monks how to do the pull. Or helping people break back in to camp outside of group after they wiped. But sniping that king was FUN.

How long do you think others should wait after you wipe on King? How many times do you get to wipe before its moral to take camp? Let's say a duo wipes at King, would you give them time to get back? How long?

Recently I gave a crypt team some time to get back after they wiped. He was irate I would think about taking the camp at all while he was claiming crypt from ent. I explained, someone else could sign on, take the camp and neither of us would have any recourse. Guess what happened within the next 2 minutes. Another torpor shaman logged on and got claim to Hiero camp.

If you die at your camp, you lost it, tough luck. Everquest is a very unforgiving game and this is part of it. No one sheds a tear when I, or any other soloer wipes and another team is around to take the camp and they shouldn't.

Expecting to keep a camp after you wiped when others want it is selfish. Not the other way around.b[oooooooom

As for agnarr server...I played on Ragefire in the top guild. I remember the dipshit guide / GM that implemented that stupid "DPS" race bullshit because they were to lazy to do their job....I eventually quit late kunark because I got tired of the constant batphones at 3 am to blast Trak to cockblock everyone else out of VP....so many teeth destroyed or on alts lol (increased spawn rate he was up basically daily). Honestly I mind that much less for raids but xp camps in my opinion should still have some semblance of civility.
