Hi Guys!
New player here, finally decided to make the jump to P99 and been enjoying it so far, still deciding what class to play after so many recommendations :)
Was wondering how deity selection affects you here?
Pretty clueless if deity ends up being a cosmetic choice or it is truly old skool where for example it was better to be an agnostic chanter, or if Erudite Prexus Paladins had awesome hats and cultural smithing tied to religion.
So to make it simple, I was wondering on trying to level up either a bard or a rogue, what would be the best deities for them? Just go agnostic as a surefire way? or will I miss something along the way if I do not choose this or that deity.
Same with Clerics too, can you get that snare necklace as a cleric of inny? Just little things I remember from back in the day.
Any help will be appreciated!
Hugs and Cheers!

Yes, deity matters for some items and factions. Rogue doesnt matter. Bard does.

It is very important as it will deeply effect your role play choices and as such how you interact with other players!
For npc interactions and itemisation deity is less profound.

Before rolling, I would be sure to check human cultural smithing stuff for bards, depending on deity they have access to cool armor sets. Be it Zek, Errolisi, Mithaniel etc. Rogue not so much.

Clerics of Innoruuk have access to snare necklace yes. If you roll human, you also have access to fear mask + see invis helm. Human clerics of Innoruuk also have access to one of the best looking cultural armor set. Very fun and unique to play.

Just go Agnostic.
This is the best advice for ench/bard.

Bards can pick Veeshan as a religion, only class to do so!

If you are into RP, even a little, go Bristlebane for rog/brd!
Any race as a Rogue can be Bristlebane, which is Neutral and only lowers some factions a bit.
Bards are one of two that can be Solusek Ro and the sole class that can be Veeshan. Veeshan lowers a few factions slightly but helps you in Velious with Dragons.
Solusek Ro is actually better than Agnostic in the original classic game because it has all the same faction modifiers as Agnostic, except +200 higher Knights of Truth and Priests of Marr factions. However, P99 may be unclassic when it comes to this and maybe it ruins a faction it didn't in classic.

I know half elf warrior of innoruuk have in classic faction standings, so I wouldn't take any to necessarily spot on by default
I'm annoyed that Agnostic Dark Elves are threatening to Highkeep guards by default instead of the correct dubious. Considering highkeep was always my fave spot to level and I always had agnostic dark elves its such BS :p

(1) Roleplay reasons
(2) read up on cultural smithing/tailoring for the race you want, the best items in that category are deity-specific and should influence your choice
(3) as a rogue you can faction and bank anywhere using Sneak, so it doesn't matter as much if people hate you or not for practical purposes
(4) roleplay reasons!
