really missing the gym boys and girls. my dad has been in town which has taken all my free time away. i also lost the key to my car yesterday when it was (((stolen))) at the socialist tea parlour, so now I am dealing with this fiasco. if i'm lucky, i can get in an upper body set in between dropping my car off at the dealer and kendo training this afternoon.

Back on Stronglifts 5x5 keeping it light to get my form back. Got offered the new job that will work with school and in general will let me be happier, Albeit with less money.

Will post weight/pictures tomorrow after work out to start tracking progress with my elf healthers, but today is rest day

Back day today. I really overdid it last week. I did about 50-60 pull-ups all together throughout the session on top of my actual workout. Curious to see any increase in reps after resting and eating well for a week.

I've been out of the gym the last 3 weeks moving my gf's furniture around and crap. I mean that's a workout in itself, but I can't wait to get under the bar again. Would really like to squat 400 in 6 months.

Not where I live they aren't. There are herds of good looking people showing up to bars and restaurants in tights. Nice eye candy for both hetero and homosexuals.

I love being in the gym. Plus, as you know, I don't need any more help injuring myself lol. Between snowboarding, barefoot water skiing, and soccer, I got my hands full keeping myself healthy.

I do really like the social aspect of crossfit. My last girlfriend was big into crossfit. I would go to her competitions, hang out, and meet a lot of good people. Nothing about it made me want to participate though.

I do really like the social aspect of crossfit. My last girlfriend was big into crossfit. I would go to her competitions, hang out, and meet a lot of good people. Nothing about it made me want to participate though.

I felt the same way until a work pal finally made me sign up (he owned a box before joining the ranks of public service). Coming from a BB background, the idea of throwing in 50 oly lifts among a ton of other exercises in 1 workout made me cringe. I also need my back for the next 20 years (patients seem to be getting heavier and heavier) so I was always afraid of injury.

I have definitely enjoyed my time there and there's definitely a sense of camaraderie and competition between everyone. I've also lost about 30 pounds and definitely stronger than I ever was. Yesterday I was C&J 103kg for reps.

The power of community is something I hadn't considered for crossfit. Most gyms are pretty anon. I prefer having a workout buddy buy haven't met one here yet. Even if crossfit seems silly, it has an awesome social element which cannot be underscored enuff

I like Crossfit -- but I don't really play sports. If your playing high intensity sports as is multiple times a week, Crossfit is a bit much.

While most agree "never wake up sore" might be a bit of an overshoot. I think in general this mentality works. Crossfit is good if its your sport...but I don't think its going to make you a better football player in the long run.

Meanwhile, some extra low intensity strength and cardio work is pretty typical for Crossfiters.

I think people just need to take it for what it is. I would say the majority of people that attend my gym are not trying to be at a competition level. Most are just trying to be healthier and exercising with friends. All workouts are scaled to the person, so whether you are a middle aged soccer mom or the 25 year old regional athlete, everyone creates their own intensity. I will be the first to admit, since I was on the outside looking in for years (and probably talked the most shit), you can't really speak on it unless you have done it yourself.

I was a 19d myself. Had a lot of fun and was very competitive at the time. I can't be bothered these days. I just like to do my thing and get out. But I too encourage any activity that's going to get someone off the couch.

I did have a really good back day today. Before I went I was facetiming my buddy, I put my hand up on the doorway pullup bar messing around and started cranking out some 1 handers. Surprised myself.

I know several people who are almost obsessed with Crossfit. They are in great shape and are always looking forward to getting back in the gym. Nothing wrong with that.

12 sets of deadlifts yesterday. Today my left knee kinda hurts. I love deadlifts but my form is far from perfect and this seems to always happen. Should I invest in a trainer and make sure I’m 100% confident in my form? I’m guessing knee pain is a sign of a serious issue with my form that could actually cause a serious injury as I go up in weight. Right now I don’t push past 305-315, and most of my sets are 10 reps of 225. Still, this shit is frustrating

Back before I had belly surgery, I loved to do deadlifts. I wanted to make sure that my form was right so I wouldn't hurt myself. I signed up to get a PT to check my forum. He jerked me around a bunch of other exercises and essentially refused to help me with my deadlifts. i think this is pretty normal for most entry-level trainers at franchise gyms.

I share this anecdote with you so you can choose a better trainer. Trainers make their money getting you to work with them for a year instead of actually helping you with one or two sessions. So you may be better of paying top dollar for a great trainer. Or, find a super strong deadlifter and convince him to help you.

I have similar experience.

I specifically wanted to improve core resilience against injury and he included all sorts of cardio and shit.

Was forcing lock gates and shifting awkward loads for a seasonal job on the waterways. The gym was good once I ditched the trainer an instead formed a crew.

They tend to train you in the way they might have trained themselves. Despite that your goals, and style preferences might be a lot different. Many of them are just plain dumb.

But you find good ones (probably older ones with degrees). You can probably just go into physical therapy complaining about knee pain -- and they might help with that specific issue (probably putting to much weight on quads and not the posterior chain) better than a personal trainer.

Just research the shit out of it and drop weight until your form is perfect. You can really fuck yourself up if you're doing it wrong. This is actually something I would consult with a crossfit trainer about if you don't want to try and fix it yourself. Those guys will get your deadlift form perfect.

As far as your current injury, I would definitely keep off of it, ice it, and maybe take some ibuprofen for like a week or two and see how it feels. You might have torn something that just needs some time to recover. If it still persists afterwards maybe get it checked out.

Almost every encounter I have with a personal trainer I'm just like stop talking dude. They're like the gnc sales persons of the gym. Sounds like they know what they're talking about to people who don't know any better.

Physical therapy is definitely another route to go for the knee pain if it doesn't get any better resting it. They can give you some good tips on how to prevent injury as well. If it wasn't for my physical therapy I probably wouldn't be going hard as I am in the gym yet.

And the knee isnt seriously fucked up or anything... I ran 3 miles with my dogs today. It’s just a slight twinge that’s annoying and tells me my mechanics were off

Definitely a good idea. I already have back problems and I want to strengthen it to prevent them in the future, so I cut my weights down significantly because it's been so long I know I would look and feel awful try to to get right back into it like I never left.. It doesn't dishearten me because with 5x5 or 5/3/1, for a not expert lifter, I will very steadily get back to and beyond.

Did squat (every workout, squats), bench press, and barbell rows. Proper barbell rows are so demanding, I feel it everywhere

Took my mom on a 9.5 mile hike on the shoulder of Mt Hood today. 3k elevation gain and BOY DID I FEEL GEWD up in the subalpine layer.

I feel like a totally different body than 6 months ago after a year of surgery. The goal physique is not yet achieved but I'm running at very high fitness and endurance.

I'll be passing my beginner kendo test this Sunday. After that I'm going to set some short term weight goals at the gym.

August will be 2 years no booz for me. Pretty stoked about that. Never felt so good. The only time my progress gets interrupted is because of a hangover.

Keep up the good work. You'll be able to do 5 minutes if you work at it hard enough.

i resumed exercising this week and am woefully unfit (but NOT overweight). basically my cardiovascular system is poop. good news though is my ankle is pretty good now, but still working on strengthening it and my foot.

I recently experience ginger beer + jagermeister, which is chicken delicious together . Goes well with cider too.

My strong lifts is going great, I started light for good form, and have progressed to my bodyweight in my DL. I haven't gained any weight yet but I can notice a little bit of extra muscle, so I could be losing some of the late 20s beer fat I accumulated

Yea man. I'm going to break it in tomorrow. I can't wait. I got that one off of amazon, as I do most of my stuff. It was only 32 bucks with great reviews. The one negative review I saw a guy was saying he couldn't stack more than 3 plates smh.

Belt is great. I got 2x 45s on there with plenty of room for more. Super comfy. I couldn't be more happy with it.

I'm definitely getting increasingly irritable with my gym. People just leave stuff everywhere and the employees do nothing about it. Plus, it closes way too early for my schedule. I work nights so sometimes I stay on that schedule. There's another good gym that's close by and gaining popularity. It's conveniently open 24-7.

I've been really trying to bulk up. The workout part is fun. It's the eating I have a hard time with. I bought three 12 pound bags of https://i.imgur.com/gRls67Q.jpg to help me out a bit. We'll see how it goes.

I also had labs done two weeks ago. Cholesterol, sugar, HnH, and chem are perfect. Normal resting bp and hr. Things are looking good on the inside.

It’s really out of convenience. It’s much easier to down a couple shakes in a day than intake that amount protein and calories in food.

So I've been making my own salsa lately. Just chopping the ingredients rather than pay $6 for a plastic jar of it that's already 1-2 weeks old. It works great except one key problem.

Every time I chop jalapenos or other hot peppers...I forget about it 40 minutes later or so and end up touching my dick. This leads a burning sensation that can't really be washed off right away -- so you just have to kind of ride it out.

Now obviously I wash my hands before or after handling food. But the hot oils that are in peppers don't easily wash off. And you tend to soap down before handling food more than after. However, even when you remember to soap the shit out of your hands...it doesn't always work! It just lowers the level of burning you experience. I'm starting to think that the only way I can keep making my own salsa, is by scrubbing with vinegar after handling the peppers at all.

Otherwise, as good and cost effective as making you own Pico De Gallo is...its not worth all the burning dick.

tonight i attended my first real kendo practice. it turns out when you go up against a person wearing indigo robes and full armor, screaming at you and striking so hard your sword shakes u sort of forget all the shit u learned. i was legitimately struggling for breath towards the end of practice. the kendo community was very kind and putt up with my and the one other person who passed beginner class's incompetence.

tonight i will be eating more food and icing my back. tomorrow CHEST day bithces.

Yes. I go up in chest, not really in incline though. Do flies (I like cables), dumbbells, incline, decline, and dips. Mead could probably give you a better regimen, but I do that stuff + push-ups and chest press, changing up the routine fairly often. It works for me.

A towel is an awesome piece of equipment for this kinda stuff.. Hammer curling the towel and having somebody pull down hard on the negative. Slow controlled negative..

Also taking the towel and pulling at each end, then do like chest press motion while pulling at each end.. all while standing :)

I cardio'd HARD yesterday and had a hangover that kept me up despite proper hydration/etc. And a nightmare, which is out of character. Any remedies?

I usually never workout without some pre workout juice.. That being said, the caffeine doesn't seem to ever affect my sleep. Also- I never dream.. Don't know why haha.. I blame the sticky icky that was puffed during the good'ol days.

Thanks for the report! I was wondering if you ever did that. So tl;dr was you're getting concealer stuck in undereye wrinkles? That used to happen to me a lot, but I think it's basically moisturize, wait a min for that to sink in, and blend a few dots really well. Get that figured out because concealer is one of the bigger impact cosmetics. My goal is to be eventually able to just do that and mascara and gtfo the door.

As far as the desensitization to anxiety inducing anti-man zones, yeah that's a real thing. My friend took me out clothes shopping last weekend and I found out that the dreaded black and white horizontal stripes actually do look good on me. Pretty happy. Think I'm at the point where it's just a normal thing now.

I put in a job application today with potential for massive transition gains. Send good vibes my way please.

as promised, rundown on Sephora tranny makeup course which I took very early today in Bumfuck, near Pokesan's house.

He lives in a pretty nice area. Nearby I witnessed a nervous man urinating in a McDonald's parking lot in the nook of his open car door at 8:00am, but the strip malls were all very well kept and I got a generally positive impression.



anyway lol

there were 7 or 8 of us and 2 instructors. The girls ranged from obese barely-able-to-function autistic to a really very charming older dude using a masc name, and my favorite, this adorable very shy total nonpass with a Hitler Youth I shared a table with, who naturally used my aura to shield herself during socializing. We all sat down at tables-for-two with mirror, products and utensils laid out. I felt very comfortable and welcome and indeed subtly dominated the scene. My phobia about Sephora was that it'd be filled with rude snobs who are all prettier than me and I'd be terribly embarrassed; not so.

The content kind of sucked. They concentrated too much on "skin care", by which they meant cleansing with an oil soln, using an exfoliating pad, and then applying a single moisturizer. That took like half the class and I already have a superior skin care regimen to theirs and didn't care.

Makeup content was the other half of classtime and it was also totally useless except that I happened upon some products I like. Pretty much we were taught the order of foundation application, with very little instruction on technique: primer, color corrector, foundation, concealer, powder, setting spray. Then let off to apply on our own. Wow! No eye instruction. But I found a foundation I dig a LOT so that's cool.

The really irritating thing: there was one particular issue I needed help with and I got conflicting answers from the two instructors. Maybe some nerd who reads tldrs will help me. I have this recurring thing with undereye concealer pilling up, which happened again using their recommended product combo. It appears to settle into creases in my undereye and I get this zebra look. I wiped it all off, applied it again while one of them watched, and it occurred a second time. One individual told me I was too dry there; the other too wet. No combo of product worked in 4 attempts. And because so much time was blown on nonsense earlier in the class we ran out of time before this was resolved. So, I walked out looking a *bit* of a goofball, upon close inspection anyway, with a nice basket of freebie samples.

The gains:

big reduction in fear of makeup counters & shops by virtue of exposure. I found them completely terrifying a few months ago.
Learnt some products
Exposure to trans women who have it worse & soldier on, and trans women who although nonpassing are totally charming & attractive.
Freebies bag is pretty dank. There's like 10 smaller-scope items in here, eye liner pencil etc and a lip shade I like, full size. Probably 50 bucks of stuff retail.
Time Spent Out In Public With People Who Understand


Totally worthwhile. Cecily, doubt you'd learn anything, but you'd profit still just thinking of it as a social habilitation expedition (+free product)

Anyway as far as that concealer prob, there are concealer sticks meant specifically for undereye and other undereye concealers with little applicators in the packaging (I like those the best, and you can double up your other concealer over that if you need to blend it, just use even less. The under eye is a particularly oily part of the face. You should hit up the drugstore and pick one that's easy to apply and seems like it would match what you got from sephora. Moisturizer is OK, but you still need a dry surface. And the concealer you have is probably a little bit too oily. You could probably stand to use even less and blend more. Remember to pat it in and not rub it. Little dabs. Start on the inside and dab outwards until it spreads out. Put only the product in the little crease you don't want a lot right under the eye. I am pretty much using powder mostly so I don't have the oil problems, but powder isn't very high coverage.

Skin care is important and makes the biggest improvement overall, remember that class is designed for the lowest common denominator.

TLDR: There are specific concealers for under your eyes and they are different from face concealers, the class did you dirty sum.

For large pills (or even small non-coated) that are hard to get down I sometimes coat with honey. That makes it a lot easier to down with some water.

How is your face totally not skeletored out at this point? I lose 5 lbs and my cheeks cave in. I've decided, despite the uncomfortably high number on the scale, I look ok and am more fixated on maintaining the weight I've lost. I figure if I can keep this weight for a month or two longer, I can lower my body's weight set point. Really wish we knew more about set point theory, or how to change it more specifically. Yeah I used to bench way more when I was younger. Also had shoulder surgery 18 months ago so that hinders me a bit to this day.

Injuries are rough. I don't know how I did it but I couldn't even do a push up without sharp tearing pain. Had someone do some reiki (yeah, seriously) on it and it's better now that was like last year :)

Anyhoo. Took a break from FQ and did sets of squats, flutter kicks, hip raises. Mountain climbers. Push ups. And variations of leg lifts and some work towards head stands.

Feeling pretty good. It's not focused, but an hour of that each day plus some random yoga seems good right now.

It's nice to be able to workout without winding up injured. I think angry intentions and overzealousness was causing me to hurt myself.

Happy for you guys!

2 months off cigarettes, lost ~5 lbs during that time, and kept it off. Think I'm in the clear. It seems like the circumstances are different every time you try to quit. I've quit before with no effort and relapsed in 2 weeks with 10 extra lbs, and this last time was the absolute worst as far as overt hostility to every living thing around me and could have easily done something horrible over the slightest provocation. It was a living hell and I'm glad to be mostly out of it. Still not completely stable :3 Off and on waves of post acute withdrawal still.

I don't know how bad coke withdrawal is, but it's good to hear anyone getting free of any addiction.

The chief needs to get a new love interest besides that unattractive crazy mom who dated samwise gamgee last season. That’s the one thing I really don’t like about the show. The chief, especially in season 1, is the coolest fucker on television and he’s getting no action. Sad!

How does that change your dietary needs? Does it? I've got my A&P textbook on the table, but I'm hazy on the difference between large and small. If I remember at all.. small would be more nutrient absorption and large more water / electrolytes? Something something aquaporins. I know water absorption happens earlier on too.

They had to take out the big intestine because he doesn't eat enough fiber to push his shit all the way through. He probably loses 5 pounds every time he takes a dump!

Basically large intestine breaks down fiber into medium chain fatty acids and absorbs water. That's it. So if I eat veggies I shit out chewed veggies. I'm not sure if I can get nutrients out of the veggies. My surgeon says to just take vitamin supplements. I essentially have a canine digestive system now. Protein, carbs, and fats.

It's a relatively new surgery so no one knows much. I'm a living experiment. As I said, I do what I can to make up for lost nutrients. I may die at 70. But I wasn't gonna make it past 35 so it's all a win
