(This snapshot is June 2002. The thread title in the forum says 2003. My edit didn't update it.)

I made this thread to review the old PvP rulesets and compare them to what we have here. How are thigns different and what exactly is Red trying to achieve its ruleset? I played on Sullon Zek mostly.

These're the earliest snapshots in the archive for these pages. The specialty servers page:
http://web.archive.org/web/20020605035159/http://eqlive.station.sony.com:80/library/special_servers.jsp

The PvP rulesets:
http://web.archive.org/web/20020605114204/http://eqlive.station.sony.com:80/library/sz_rule_sets.jsp

Note every PvP server except Sullon Zek had Play Nice rules for non-PvP related events:
On Rallos Zek, PvP-related Play Nice Policy situations are expected to be resolved using PvP solutions. However, Non PvP-related Play Nice Policy issues, such as training, causing intentional experience loss, bind point, zone, and portal camping, as well as other various forms of harassment, are not permitted in the PvP environment.

While corpse camping is no longer illegal, corpse camping someone until the point where his or her corpse decays is considered harassment, and will be treated as such.

Every PvP server has teams, except Rallos Zek.

Every PvP server had infrequent experience loss in PvP. Sullon Zek was full experience loss if within 5 level restriction.

Rallos had a "1 item + coin" from PvP death. Tallon/Vallon was coin. Sullon Zek was coin if within 5 level restriction..

Rallos Zek had a 4 level PvP restriction. TallonVallon it was 8. Sullon Zek it was FFA.

I want something clarified about Red. Is it true there's limits on PvP regarding invisibility?

What other obscure rules are there? I already know about LootnScoot. Thanks.

Loot and Scoot was a widely observed community rule on Tallon for group and lower PvP, depending on the situation it could be GM enforced way before corpse rotting(hours not days). For raid PvP it was more of you can have your corpse back once the raid is over, often with the winning guild assisting with the recovery of the losers.

I played on Vallon and I don't remember any LootnScoot. However I probably missed it. They might have changed the rules at other times too. Given the rules state you can't corpse camp if it causes decay, this implies GM's would intercede in special circumstances. It follows that not everybody can play 24/7 or has the same situation. Also later on they added the corpse zone--I forget when. Allowing corpse camping would make more sense if there's an alternative for the victim to get their corpse within reasonable constraints.

I went to Sullon Zek to get away from the Bureaucracy of Play Nice. Back then, the big thing were trains and bind camping and whatnot. Personally, I liked living with those things. Does that mean I wanted to grief? No. I hated greifing, just like anybody else. I got bind camped once. What'd I do? I quit and I played an alt until they left. I lost some experience, sure. Did I ever hear horror stories of people who lost several levels? Yes. However, open world is open world. Too many rules are incompatible IMHO.

Can anyone name any subtle rules or thigns not explicitly mentioned here:

And MiRo2, I find this reference to LootnScoot being a community rule on Tallon Zek:

If they ever did a TLP PvP server I'd play there in heartbeat. Though I suspect it would not go over as well now as it did back then. Almost everyone on the server obeyed "Loot and Scoot" from both ends. Meaning you didn't attack players on the way to your body and you left the zone after getting it, and you didn't attack and kill players just attempting to loot their bodies. No looting nowadays, but people are so rude and willing to abuse on the PvE progression servers I imagine if you didn't assimilate and join the largest guilds on a new PvP server it'd be no fun for you.

server was fantastic when there was no npc assist in towns and there was no anti-griefing guide policy, grudges were developed that motivated people to play, the population issues all came after it became shitified, how many noobs joined a raid guild so they could go back to guk and shit on chewie

honestly having staff members constantly being called to mediate and decide shit was very bad for the server, really ruins the immersion, im just as guilty as anyone in being a crybaby but this is all in retrospect
