View Full Version : Price jacking on the wiki

I think it's pretty widely known that fat cats in EC will jack up their prices to fix the price on the wiki, but there was one idiot in particular about a week ago putting some absurd prices up that have since made it to the wiki. Is this allowed? Can these not be stricken from the wiki?

There is a page for exactly that, http://wiki.project1999.com/Special:AuctionTracker/TRIMOUTLIERS, but ... unfortunately it's disabled (and has been for who knows how long).

What a bummer. Hope someone can take a loot at it and determine that the prices are BS. The guy showed up with those prices for 2 days then disappeared. Pretty safe to assume he sold none of it and naturally he turned into a raging shitlord whenever someone sent him a tell asking why his prices were so high.

Maybe someday I will, but I kind of hate PHP and I'm buy with my FashionQuest project ATM.

Ultimately until someone builds my dream (and auction tracker that uses the logs of someone's permanently logged-in character, so that no one can manipulate them) this is just part of the "fun" of using a tracker.

Auction trackers are not classic. If you weren’t using it you wouldn’t have this problem

We are in a recession. Hoard your platinum or else you'll be one of the poors.

Of course it's allowed, you can't outlaw what someone sells their item for on an open market.

This. ^

I recognize the problem with auction trackers being manipulated, it's real. To eliminate such misiformation, you simply need to stop using them.

Just counteract it. Turn logs on, auction Tranquil staff for 30k, ignore the 40 tells you get, upload it to wiki. Repeat for other items.

I am just glad you stuck this in RnF where it needs to be. Thank you!

We can't have meaningful, engaging conversations when it's stuck in server chat... RnF is the real safe zone.

Report inaccuracies in the auction tracker to the admins on the forums.

I've done this a couple times. Nothing was done.:confused:

Also, even if some fancy outlier detection was built in (which are notoriously hard to make accurate in the first place), it’s pretty easy to break them. Slowly increase the sell price until both the moving average and the variance increase and go from there.

Again, either deal with it or don’t use it. Fucking Everquest snowflakes

I like the idea of just ignoring the seller altogether. But I'm digging the Candara font better.

He's no fat cat selling that garbage, but I did lul at the prices when I saw them.

There are two problems with shitposts like the above.

0. kneejerk shitposts are boring, people need new material.

1. like uncontrolled mold, "not classic" shitposts have spread throughout the p99 forums rather than being properly quarantined in RnF.

2. most important of all: nobody shitposted about "not classic" back in the day.

Anyone who has that kind of platinum and doesn't have a general idea of the prices for those items, shouldn't have that much platinum if you know what I mean

I petitioned him and he got suspended for price manipulation. That's why he's gone. Make sure to petition any unfair or crazy prices you see!

The people jacking prices on the wiki are the same people who are responsible for the equifax data breach. True story.

Exactly. I don't have time for that bullshit. There are much more exciting things to do in EQ than stare at gigantic walls of green and pink text.

Lol retards. High prices for rare items is classic. If anything, the price "jackers" are making the server more classic and should be commended for it.

I'm sorry you can't beat Mistmoore without a CoF, Fungi and a Tstaff on your level 30 monk.

Also, supply and demand. Deal with it.

Classic price jacking was having your friend shout out a high price when someone PC'd the items you were selling.
