When asking for a port please don't ask are you porting or say Hi. Simply tell us where you are and where you want to go and and please BE at the druid rings in the zone u want picked up from. Alot of us don't mind coming to you but when we run to you alot of other people have to wait for us to finish with you

Wut?
I actually do not like people sending my druid tells stating simply "Need port from xx to xx", but then again I'm not in DaP, so...

The story is part of the fun. With a little sweet talking I sometimes get a port for free.
Put all your gear into your bags and sell it as a corpse run. The art of the deal homie!

A lot of times in the past I have had porters with DAP tag up, not respond, or say, "oops I accidentally had tag up I am not porting now..." Which lead me to sometimes start with, "are you porting?"
This is a personal preference for you, to want people to directly tell you X to X in the first tell.
Some probably don't like this way of asking for a port, so it's just a matter of taste.
This should be in RnF. It's 100% a rant. :D

I feel your pain OP sometimes when I am in the groove and I get a Hi my reply back is Hi. I also don't mind some of the converstion sometimes as well it really depends on my mood.
Stay strong and don't let them get to ya.
You seem rustled. You should join red server, where you can port people you dislike to plane of hate or north karana druid rings (if evil race).

If someone initiates communication for a port with small talk or a simple "hi" and it causes stress on the porter they probably don't have what it takes to be a competent porter.
I suggest anger management, therapy, or maybe just a different job altogether. The last thing we need is a porter off his rocker going postal in the EC tunnel.

I was pretty much thinking the same thing. If you get irritated because someone initiates a cordial conversation just trying to be polite then you should probably fix whatever is wrong inside your own fucked up head and not expect other people to accommodate you.

In the past I used to troll them if I was feeling a bit cheery, but that usually lead to them getting angry so I don't do that anymore.
I would send the porter a tell every 20 secs to interrupt their tells from others needing ports, I'd prod them to come get me, where I was at, how long I had to get to point B, how much longer did I have to wait, I did this until they either got me or ignored me.
Had one porter who got really angry when I did this once, and I felt bad because he was legitimately frustrated and agitated as he was busy and I was being a dickling to him. He chided me as politely as he could, warned me he was going to cancel my port if I kept pestering him, and sure enough he canceled my trip and put me on ignore.
So some of them do not have much of a sense of humor and/or take their porting very seriously.
Just as all humans go, everyone is different and so is each DAP porter. Each one has different thresholds of how much dicking they can take too.
That being said, this guy sounds like he is unreasonably agitated by people simply trying to be friendly and polite to him.

We should just all send OP some cash and forgo the port all together, would make the transaction speedier and cost less mana.
I'm guessing we aren't allowed to ask him if we can send him the cash. It should have already been sent

not sure i ever asked skeins if they porting or not. it seem inefficient because i still gotta ask them if they will port me from x to y for z and the answer not gonna be no different than if I just skip that first question, so i dont ask it.
i generally just solicit openly with terms, which may vary wildly depending on the present financial situation of my present self. it allow interested parties to come to me on they own though, so i not have to persuade them. but usually they too shy and I have to track them down with private inquiry anyway :c
ive stopped paying though. i feel liek ive pause for enough ports in my life and it not right to continue, so i don't do it no more and am just upfront with them about it and tell them, i not gonna pay you or nothing, but i REALLY need a port please.

My bad, I had too much rum and forgot about the whole wood floating on water thing. Now what about skinning people & using their hides for sails tho? Could one weave enough human tapestries together to form sails to use?

yeah, butt the problem Witham is the hides gonna get too dry and stuff in the sun and then you sail gonna warp and it introduce weird cross currents and stuff. now, you can maybe ride some of that by ripping he hides into thin strips so you sail not all patchworky liek a orc vest or something, but I think it still gonna be a maintenance nightmare.
it also a lotta extra weight on you mast too. no matter how big and strong or fat you mast is, it gonna struggle with all that extra weight. even a super thick mast jutting proudly from you boat on the sea liek a lone oak on the great planes of karana, it gonna throb and now beneath the tug of all that sail :c

I was about to google this word. I thought you were wielding a word I had never heard of here, using it in a context I'd never seen.
I am still looking it up lol. Maybe this word exists afterall.
Definition of skein
1
or less commonly skeanplay or skeane \ˈskān\ : a loosely coiled length of yarn or thread wound on a reel
2
: something suggesting the twists or coils of a skein : tangle
3
: a flock of wildfowl (such as geese or ducks) in flight
Well, there you go. The word "skein" exists.

Patchwork human skin armor would be kinda eye brow raising but flimsy. Would this be a human head as a helmet or a meat helmet? I could tell you some differences about them but I explain it all in my book. Just 39.95$

I logged into red yesterday.
I learned that OOC is system messages.
I learned that it was really lonely even with OOC system messages (mostly WTB requests).
I learned that announcing you are new to red doesn't inspire the auto help people frequently claim exists on blue forums (at least not consistently) as nobody welcomed me with as much as a tell (or any free gear / PL'ing).
I re-learned that EQ is hard.
I have enjoyed PvP servers in the past, will give it another try sometime.
BTW: I'm not saying I deserved free gear or help, I have noticed a trend of folks saying how welcoming the red community is and I didn't experience that. All this said, there were only about 85-90 people online at the time (around 4PM PST Sunday).
Put this in this thread because so many hijacks to advertise red on blue forums. It's just my personal opinions none of this make the overall situation this or that.

I think back when Red was dying but not dead yet you would have had more success; now there's barely anyone left, and none of them are interested in encouraging more people to join because they want to see the box die and get remade.

That's considered very busy for red.
I too had the same exact experience, the way the chat system is setup, it seems to isolate you more than anything it's just weird how it works. And, no one welcomes you.
I got to lvl 17 or something on a rogue, and died of boredom more than anything else on red.
Actually, had I been girefed I might have found that more enjoyable, at least then I'd have had some sort of interaction with another player.

I 100% ignore this kind of stuff in /ooc because it always looks very insincere to me, half the time its not a new player, and /ooc is just trash most of the time on the server. I've given away several suits of crusty/sentient armor and bags of other mid/low tier gear to new players in the past two weeks. I'm not sure where the prevailing idea on the forums that people will instantly drop whatever they're doing to help new players, when in reality its more like people on Red will go out of their way to help new players that are just playing the game, not sitting in a newbie zone asking for handouts(not saying this is you, but it happens, alot).
If you decide to give a try again shoot me a PM and I'll see what I have lying around.

1-When asking for a port please don't ask are you porting or say Hi.
2-Simply tell us where you are and where you want to go and and please BE at the druid rings in the zone u want picked up from. Alot of us don't mind coming to you but when we run to you alot of other people have to wait for us to finish with you
1-I personally prefer people ask if I'm porting, it's easier to "r no" than it is to "r sorry I'm not porting right now" (guess you could just give a plain "no" there but I'd find that rude and not do it)
2-Agree wholeheartedly, telling people you "need a port to XX" doesn't give much information, we need pickup and dropoff locations so we can load our spellbook in advance, and don't want to waste time running around.
Keep in mind though;
1-People asking for a port are probably asking multiple porters from 40-60, and it's not uncommon for people to be leveling or doing other things. Many would find it rude to send (or receive) a solicitation without a "hello".
2-Some people are unsure of where pickup locations are. Druid rings and wiz spires are obvious, but evac and succor points are generally only memorized by people that have ported or played for a very long time. Informing them of the location could help in those situations.
