I didnt put the time and effort into tradeskilling so i could make people sh** for free. If you want it, BUY IT OR LEARN TO MAKE IT YOURSELF!

Well unless it's something aside from spell making (which is only a bitch if you don't put all your training points into it), it should at least be given a discount for giving you all the ingredients, but yes... excepting it for free is lame.

Reminds me of the time i was making jewellery in NFP (when it was the trading hub) and someone asked me the price of a piece of jewellery, i told them, and they then asked how much is it if i bring you the mats, i said ... i'm standing next to the vendor for the mats... lol.

It's generally a big hassle though, if someone brings me the mats and doesn't expect to have a massive discount (i've seen people ask for multiple pairs of rings, only for them to resell them later) then i'll do the combine. But if i have to direct you to the merchant and tell you what you need to buy, it's a pain.

Honestly, I never thought this was an issue. You have to be pretty ignorant to expect a huge discount on jewelry just because you bought the mats off of the vendor lol. I've seen people make jewelry for the materials who were leveling it up, but there was a chance for failure. I wouldn't even have responded, and let them figure out their own ignorance.

Hell, I give people free 1-44 necro spells all the time, and that's using my mats

I've only ever sold jewelry on this server at cost...

And if it cost like 15pp or less to make I would usually just give it to them.

I had a lower lvl shaman last night contact me, he needed two jasp earrings and 2 rings. he bought electrum instead of gold for the earrings, just to tip me 15p.

I made the gear and handed him his tip back, doubled. It was sad indeed.

And no, its not a big deal. but i figured i sould share as this happed 12 hours ago.

Just to be clear, I'm not talking about little shit like str 3 earings or some 200p item. Every day, EVERY DAY at least 3 times I get people asking me to make them Black sapphire jewelery. Anyone who JCs knows you cant just go out and pick up another stack of black sapphires. Only a handfull of them drop on the entire server each day and when they are up for sale you have to compete with the other JCers just to buy them. So when someone asks me to make them a BS item it takes one more BS off the market driving up my buying costs and puts one more BS item ON the market which drives down my selling price. WHY THE FUCK WOULD I DO THIS? I BECAME A JC SO I WOULDNT HAVE TO FARM LGUK 10 HOURS A DAY.

If I bring the metal, plastic and fabric to toyota will they make me a car for 100 bucks? HELL NO. If I bring some eggs and bacon and flour to dennys will they make me breakfast for 50 cents. FUCK NO. So why the hell should I?

1. If you go to Toyota with materials and ask them to make you car, it costs them money to do that. How much does it cost to click combine for someone's piece of jewelery? Nothing?
2. Are you seriously trying to compare what people and businesses in real life do to make money to survive and feed their families and shit to what you do in a video game played for entertainment?

soup, what you fail to realize is everything that lead up to me being able to hit that combine button and have it succeed. It took time to skill up. I invested that time so that I might get a return on it, saving me time in the future.

There's always going to be people that give stuff away and think they are great for doing so, and others that feel put upon when asked to do stuff for free because it took them x amount of time to be able to do it. Whatever you like. I won't criticize either. I do, however, think people that look down on either for doing what they want to do, are jerks: not the people doing what they want to do. If you want to give stuff away for free, then learn to make it, or farm it, and give it away. Otherwise, STFU. If you are selling stuff, then don't whine about others giving it away for free. That's their right, as much as it is yours to sell it.

This is a classic case of how much should you charge for a service. If I'm a doctor, lawyor, or IT consultant, and it takes me 5 minutes to answer your question, diagnose and treat your illness, or fix your IT problem- how much is that worth? I mean it only took my five minutes, but I went to college, medical school and residency(3-5 years) in order to be able to accurately do this. How much is that worth?
It's not all about clicking the button for 2 seconds. It's about how much time, money and effort it took to be able to perform the service.

i still don't understand your rant...if you don't want to do it, just say no. its that easy.

you think you are the only player on the server who has to deal with requests for various help? can i get a sow? how bout a rez? you mind teleporting me? could you spare a ds? do you happen to have a minute to pick a lock for me? hey, can you answer a question about a quest? do you know where the guild hall is in fp? etc etc etc...

its part of the game...if you are busy just say no or even ignore them. its not worthy of a rant, noobcake.

Actually, Hawk, what you fail to realize is :

The clerics and druids who actually have to waste time and mana and still barely ever bitch about helping folks out in a pinch (except the few anti-socials on the forums)

Are still leaps and bounds in character and humanity above someone screaming from the mountain tops about daring to ask someone )who's already finished their sunk costs to max skill) to waste 15 seconds of their life to click a combo button.

I've never charged to combo a necro spell while sitting in east commons.. I put half the server in banded and (later) fine steel armor at launch either at cost or out of pocket (the loaner program!).

And for some strange reason i've never had a shortage of friends, ports, resses for my alts, phat lewtz, jewelcraft combos, or even something to do when i log in.

But please, feel free to get back to your /randoming, your re-selling, your plat farming, and the lonely spot in the EC tunnel with your butt imprints on it -- to waste your EQ time away convinced the world is out to get you, that you aren't getting your fair share, and that the world of norrath does not appreciate your immense talents.

We wish you the best of luck.

Grats on your plethora of friends inside of EQ. Unfortunately, some people rely on the economy to get things done. Not everyone wants to get that socially involved. Neither are wrong, but you still can't justify expecting things for free.

JC takes a lot of initial money and a lot of time and mana to skill up...especially to the 250 mark. So yeah, JC'ers should be paid for their skill and time...

camelbak = A backpack used to quench your thirst?

... so... a backpack.

And as far as JC goes, i just sell the popular stuff, and do combines for guildies. If you ask me to do a combine, i'll refuse, if you ask me to make something specific that i don't have the mats on me... again probably a no.

All i'd say is make friends with a JC or get in a guild with one.
