How to tell mage pet level?

Ok, there are 2 ways to tell a pet that I know of:

Con the pet (tell high/blue vs low/green)
Send it into battle to see max hit/spell


But is there any other way to tell? Basically, I'm trying to find out if I have a max pet before I try to find weak mobs to witness the max hit. I never played a mage on live though.

Only real way is via max hit at later levels

Helps to have a lower level player around, one that is around your max pet level. Ask him/her how the pet cons. Missing that, i only know of the max hit method (which sucks).

Usually go by con and max hit. If using fire pet, another way to tell is by how much the DS hits for.
