How Can Anyone Play A Cleric?!?

I was thinking that with the holidays coming up that I might have some more time to game and I thought about rolling a Cleric. Then I thought to myself that I must be fucking crazy?

I mean I see how it is now with people begging Druids and Shamans for SOWs and I want to be a Cleric? If I stick with the Cleric long enough then I'll be able to Rez people and I know I will be hated cause I'll be telling assholes to fuck off cause they will be begging me left and right for a Rez. Now, I can see giving someone a Rez from the lower 20 levels and up but I have seen people begging and whining for a Rez and they are only like level 10 and lower. So you died... Get your corpse and get back out there!

Now my characters have died before and I was lucky enough to have a higher level Cleric in the zone and yes, I requested a Rez and got one. But I, unlike many I have seen have always paid for a Rez. No matter what I have donated at least 100 to 300 platinum for the Rez.

Don't even get me started on what would happen if I was in a group and something goes wrong and we get wiped out. I already know everyone will be bitching at me saying how come I didn't save them, I'm the Cleric. You know what... Save this!

I have a lot of built up rage... Maybe I'll roll a Warrior instead.

I played a cleric to 60 on blue and I found it a rewarding experience. You will have mess ups, you will have people that aren't happy with your healing decisions but that is how you learn to be better. You can't please all the people all the time. :)

In the end play what you enjoy! Otherwise why play at all? =D

They either enjoy helping others (looking at you, Drumas), or they go anon and only play with their friends like all the remotely sane people on p99 do.

I rolled a cleric to back up my static group and have access to a rezzing character. I actually kind of like it, although I tend to do more chatting in voice and /group than normal when I'm there, just because the core gameplay is fairly dull.

I don't go anon, and I don't enjoy helping people. I do enjoy getting paid, so I encourage other clerics to go anon so I get more opportunities to rez people for plat. Sure some people tip like shit (I'm looking at you, 5p guy in Oasis and 0p guy in SolB) but other people give surprisingly good rewards. If you tip like crap or not at all, no unkind words, I just remember it and don't rez you again later on, so no worries for anyone (you were surely aware your shitty-tipping was going to have consequences, weren't you?). Also, I don't give a fuck about telling people "no, sorry."

For what it's worth, people were giving me money even for 0% rez. I used the 50% rez way way more times than I ever thought I would, and got plat for it.

It also helps that one of my friends in aforementioned static is an enchanter. Cleric/enchanter is one of the best duos in the game, if not the best. You can duo group content very easily and the XP is beautiful.

The once great and peaceful Norrathian Deity's will succumb to the plague and turn to it's very bestowers for Cure Disease... These necro's having set out to apply the new litmus , will more than gladly rid you of the Plague temporarily to obtain a semblance of normalcy...

This is why people play Cleric's.

Stuff's gonna die with that combination. And when all hell breaks loose and you get a bunch of adds, a Cleric with over 70% mana & full HP is a big indicator of your ability to survive that. Clerics can be yelled at, but clerics can also be occasional heroes, next to other classes.

Yeah, you rez folks. Yeah, you heal folks. Yeah, you buff folks. Lots of times without compensation. It's a game. RL Quest is more important than the game.

I remember back in high school when I had just heard about the game and was excited to play it. My buddy borrowed me his Prima guide and I read each class description over and over trying to decide what I wanted to play.

Ultimately I decided on Cleric. My buddy was very against this and asked me "Do you want to spend all day healing people?" I eventually let him talk me out of playing it and picked pally instead (I know right?).

Here we are 16 years later and you know what? Yes I do want to heal people all day Ryan!!!

I've rolled healer in every MMO I've played since :) and eventually did make that Cleric!

I do like being a cleric, in some regards. I enjoy the grouping and leveling experience. I enjoy that when we're roaming to our destination, and folks need heals, I can pop them off and keep running. There's a lot about it that is fun. And it's rewarding when the pull goes bad and you get a mess of mobs when you can do a lot of damage control, heal, and off-tank, too! LOL Clerics are fun! But, I had fun playing a rogue, enchanter, and necro, too... Never delved into a druid or a bard yet, but maybe on this server I will!
