View Full Version : Worst thing you've done in EQ

I've only been reading these forums for a few months, so I can't say much, but what I can say is they're boring as shit right now. Aside from a couple name and shames, the entirety of R&F is BDA and their fan/hate club all circle jerking each other while refusing to make eye contact or enjoy it. No one cares anymore. Or hell maybe they do, I dunno, but god damn it's old as shit. I assume most of us read these forums while bored at work (if you don't have a job and are reading these forums please punch yourself in the face repeatedly with a hammer), so how bout some story time in an attempt to liven things up?

What's the worst thing you've ever done in EQ? Live or P99. We all know its "just a game", but this is the type of game that can really bring out the worst in people. Stealing items, stealing accounts, RMT, ninja looting, etc. Make an anonymous account if you must, but let's hear it!

I'll go first, and maybe this wasn't the "worst" thing I ever did, but it's one of my most memorable. The Story of how my bard got his epic -

This was right after the velious launch and I had a lvl 60 bard on the Prexus server. I had everything I needed for my bard except the elusive white dragon scale. Being above level 52, the only way to get that scale is from Gorenaire, and at the time I was in a guild that wasn't quite good enough to take her on. Plus, no one really seemed to kill her at the time and she'd wander DL for day's at a time. Getting a scale legit was pretty much out of the question. So what's a guy to do? Get creative!

I had access to an account no one played anymore that still had a few months on the sub. So I made an iksar monk and got him to lvl 5ish, then ran him all the way to DL. I made sure to give him the shortest name I could, and put all my points into sneak. I camped him on the wall and kept an eye on the zone until a few days later I got lucky and a guild called Domus Divinae decided to kill her. I parked my bard in zone and logged on to my monk. As soon as gore went down, while rezzes and whatnot were happening, I snuck in and sat down right in the biggest part of the corpse, so you couldn't see my nametag through the body and began spamming /loot. This was before there was a timer saying how long until open loot, so I just spammed it. Eventually I got into the corpse and there it was looking right back at me, a beauty of a white scale. Snagged it, re hid myself, and camped out.

After that, I logged back on my bard and sent some friendly tells to some of my friends in Domus. "hey man, how'd the gore kill go?" and everyone said the same thing "kill went alright, but the loot was shit. No book or scale :(". And I laughed and I laughed. not one person mentioned a ninja looter or anything, just a bad loot table.

To be safe I waited a week before transferring it over to my main. I ended up telling my guild something along the lines of I purchased it for 80k from some guy quitting the game. A few days after that I was running around with my brand new bard epic. And the rest was history.

Let's hear some more stories! I've got a few more juicy ones if this thread actually takes off.

LOL, I swear I was there for that Gorenaire raid.

Good to see some fellow prexians still kicking around on p99.

Ripped a tstaff right out of the cold dead hands of a needy, generous, epicless monk dressed in rags.

On live I sold a tunnel rat on Terris thule by the name of Acoloss a fungi tunic, accept I put a cloth tunic in the trade window and he clicked trade. Two days later I saw him kiting in DL still wearing the cloth tunic while on my main. I felt kind of bad when he said it was his birthday :/

Haha yeah, I was a bard named Siden. was in Souls of Mir for a while, then Stasis for a short period for the whole Poison Dart Frogs dealie, then spent a majority of my raid life in Unity.

Scammed hard and alot, was my main mission in the game for most of my time playing. Made a sport of making a lvl 1 on a server I never played and acquiring a CCoM, cof or fungi with smooth talk (this could usually be accomplished within a single session) then selling it and gearing a new class.

Worst was probably the 16yo boy I pretended to be a hot chick for, cybored hard for months, then looted his account and told I was a 30yo male. His characters were pretty broke too, made like 20k max. He said he was gonna kill himself.

Man am I glad I grew up into a righteous do-gooder. Those were some dark times.

I had a friend who had thoroughly ruined the reputation of his druid already and had pretty much quit playing it. I had started fairly recently and was just hitting the 40s on my monk and starting the RotLC quest. I tried for quite awhile to get the camp, but someone always seemed to be there. So, knowing the druid was already persona non grata, I bound him up at raster, hung around and buffed the guy camping it and got the timer of the PH. Then I went and farmed tower for a bit, routinely checking track when the spawn was due. When I saw raster up I gated and the guy at the camp still hadn't engaged, so I nuked the shit out of it and looted the idol for MQ later.

Feel like kind of a scum bag about it now, especially since I've legit camped raster at least 3 times since then and know how much that camp can suck, but I was like 13 which I feel kind of excuses the self centered and inmaturity of it.

I also used to get a kick out of framing people for training. Me and a buddy used to have a competition seeing how many people we could get blamed for trains by essentially setting up train ambushes, and then dropping mobs on the unsuspecting target without them realizing what we did (would feign into walls a lot to do this, also use a lot of z-axis aggro). Again, we were like 13 year old first world anarchists, and causing chaos in EQ was on the same humor level as crank calls and fart jokes. I remember one guy in Lguk who we got that wiped like 2 groups and basically got yelled at by the entire zone. Dude was 100% a victim of circumstance, but god damn did we get a kick out of the ensuing chaos.

Not really one per se. Back around Velious going forward, I used to post ad's on playerauctions or find people wanting to trade accounts. I would chat them up on AIM for awhile and represent or show a magelo for a character I didn't own. It was amazing how easy it was to do the old "Ok, you give me your station name first, Ill give you mine. Give me your password then, Ill give you mine." I'd always give them an account with a level 1. In return, I'd always come out with some of the best accounts available. Most people were stupid especially considering I was 15 at the time. I would resell them or run around aimlessly not knowing what the fuck I was doing.

The stupidest thing I ever did was spend 2000 on a cleric on Rallos Zek. I found one of you assholes () to sell me his cleric pre-kunark for $2000. That was a ton of money but I also was very young making a ton of money, and it was actually worth it to me as opposed to spending the time it would have taken me pre-kunark to buy a cleric. He also had the only server "Weight of the Gods" which was an amazing item pre-kunark, and it was bugged so it hardly ever dropped. So again, 2k was a good deal to me back then.
SO, I bought the cleric and he gave me the account info once I emailed him a copy of my cashiers check and proof that I've sent it. I played on the cleric for a couple days and re-dinged him to 50. The next day I tried to log in and couldn't.
He then stopped responding to me, both in email and in game. I realized I was being scammed and called Verant, who told me to stuff it and their EULA protected them.
So I called the police and filed a report, and the cop told me its a federal matter. So I called the local FBI office and talked to the guy there, who tried to dismiss me. He told me he would open an investigation once 10k in losses had occurred, so I told him I would find 8k worth of other people to file a complaint vs the kid and vs Verant. He said he would open a case if so. I then got him to search the FBI database for the kid and Verant, to which there was nothing (yet, in my mind). The FBI recommended I also file with the Federal Trade Commission, the Securities Exchange Commission, and my local State Attorney General. All of them took my call and opened a complaint.
So I called Verant back and this time told them I had filed complaints with the FTC, the SEC, and my state Attorney General, and this time I talked to their executive management.
So Tom tells me his EULA protects him, and I told him I have NEVER clicked OK on it as I always hit escape (it was faster than clicking). Sure as shit, I had never clicked OK. So they clone the character for me (they were being bought by Sony at the time and didn't want the negative situation going on while in that process) if I promise never to tell anyone about it (Sorry Tom!).
Other people know what went on on the server, and in the Rallos Zek first Best of the Best he and I met as our teams healers and I crushed him. I also had a friend offer to fly down to Houston and 'break' the kid, but I got my character back so that kid got real lucky. ; )
Just about every person on RZ that got their toon scammed messaged me on my cleric to ask me what I did. "Be resourceful" I told them. =P

By far the stupidest (and therefore worst) thing I've ever done in that game.

I had a friend who made a bunch of cash scamming ebayers like that on Lineage II. Upon reflection, my conscious always told me, "Good for him! Screw those people." I did my part to fight the RMT plague by PKing every Chinese gold farmer I saw, but it was never enough. Those scammers were vigilantes doing God's work.

I'm sorry to hear you managed to worm your way into getting the account restored.

I wrangled about a hundred swarmlings to drag them all to a guard to clear the area for a bunch of lower lvl players that were in zone. There was so many of them, when they hit me from a sitting position, I flew backwards quite a distance. I did not see the guy that was sitting by the guard tower, possibly AFK too. Poor guy didn't stand a chance when they waffled him in a nanosecond.
I did stay to buff & help with the next few kills to regain the XP loss, so I'm hoping I balanced the karma too. Though I did feel bad for the beetle steam-rollering he got. I guess the saying is true, 'No good deed goes unpunished."

Used to pick on newbies in qeynos. Friend and I would play trolls and buy some invis pots to block doors. We'd put down some gold coin trails that lead into rooms with only 1 door, and invis troll would block the door. One guy was impatient and couldn't get out and attacked a guard by accident and died. We felt bad so we gave him some plat.

We'd also start massive trains in Blackburrow from up top, and again block the exit. One time a barbarian was first trying to escape and people blamed him for getting stuck and blocking the door.

Back on live, when character reputations actually mattered, I outted a terrible cleric on our local forums. This cleric was awful... he would always gate at the first sign of any trouble, ninja loot whatever to "pay for dots", pretty sure he also had downs or something.....

Anyway, I started a thread about him on the local server forums, everyone chimed in because they all had bad experiences with him as well. Dude eventually transferred to that premium server, took a name change, and then transferred back under the new name. SOE used to log character transfers / names on a public website - I outted him on his new name too - and he quit.

Always felt bad about it - but damn, that dude sucked.

On Tunare there was this Erudite Wizard named Emodius (something like that). After listening to Howard Stern at the ripe age of 14, there was this bit about callers submitting audio talking shit about the range of characters on the show. One caller submitted a tape what was assumed to directed to Robin Quivers. The caller just went on to repeat this one particular word over and over for something like 5 min straight. Howard and everyone thought it was hilarious.

Being the young dipshit at the time I thought I could do the same thing. On the forums, via a wall of text, I thought it was ingenious to make fun of this Erudite the same way.

Of course it backfired and I rerolled to a different server. I later rerolled back on Tunare but I always felt ashamed of it. Emodius if you're out there; I apologize! Also to the other Erudites that could have taken offense. All lives mater!

I gave one friend's account details to a friend of a friend (which also happened to be a friend of my brother too, so I figured he would be trust worthy).

Of course this friend of a friend/my brother didn't care about my friend's account and stole his fbss and stuff. Naturally my friend blamed me for this. Either that or I borrowed the fbss and forgot about it.

I don't really share accounts anymore (except with the first friend who lost his fbss, for some reason he still trusts me, and another mutual friend of ours).

I used to buy a certain crap sword that was like a 7/24 and went for 50p or something, but it had a name that was remarkably close to a sword that went for like 13-15k at the time. I would put it on my character, shout a WTS and link the expensive sword and have the 50pp sword on my trader for like 2k less than average. A race to my trader would happen and someone in a rush would buy my 50pp sword for a 11950pp profit.... i did this on different characters usually a couple times a week for like 2 or 3 months. I was like 12 or 13 and i felt like the biggest hustler in the world.

This all sounds like a bunch of bullshit. Especially " I then got him to search the FBI database for the kid and Verant"

The blue pages in old phonebooks had the number to your local FBI office, and the policeman who took the police report told me how to find it. When I got the guy to realize that I could put up a website to try to find another 8k in losses and that I was serious, he told me to file the reports with the SEC, FTC and Attorney General. I then told him I thought the kid or Verant might have already had cases opened against them, so I had him run the database checks. As he reluctantly did them, he said "do you have any idea how much this is costing" but honestly I didn't care.
Tom Terrazas was the person I got transferred to when I called Verant. I bet he actually remembers the story because I had to use a number of legal arguments to convince him that I could cause them serious headaches. I also had a friend who freelanced for the LA Times and was interested in doing a story about online property and was dying to use my example. I told him (Tom) I could make his company the poster child for online property sales, and that's when they did a few things to mature about IP in their game.
Besides cloning my character he also agreed that they would pull all EQ items off of Ebay through a Cease and Desist, which they did. They also fixed their EULA to make it so hitting escape would no longer move you to the login screen. So 3 things (including the character clone) they did to remediate the situation.
When this happened I was young and dumb and knew no better about online property sales. I really DID always hit escape on the EULA and had no idea I couldn't buy someone elses toon that they built and save my own hours. Ebay had ~3,000 items matching "everquest" when I searched it back then- I honestly thought there was a recognized online economy for the game. Ive since learned how stupid I was- hence this being my example. =P

On live fennin ro i stole a Phase spider carapace from this DE rogue named Bludz in WFP. Everyone said he was a dick so i jacked it. He threatened to kill my IRL.

Then later on on a different server, I scammed this barbarian warrior of a Fungi, FBSS, and two Lammie blades in the trading area of Gfay. This was the scam where you tricked players to drop their bags of shit on the ground. You pick up the loot and then /camp it later. I think i ate a ban for that one

Another time, same area i scammed some gnome caster out of his Tola robe he was wearing. After i bagged his tola robe he sent me a tell saying "HAHAH! That only works when you <do this and that>" Unknown to him I was already 5 seconds out of my /camp with his Tola robe in my inventory

I bought an item from a trader that someone obviously left off a zero in the price :/ and I kept it :( Still feel bad about that. Was scammed once though and suffered the same pricing error that landed me the item I talked about above. When I was scammed I harassed and slandered the player until I was reimbursed (months) and with the pricing error, I chatted with the purchaser until he felt I'd learnt my lesson and decided to return my underpriced items for something like a full refund plus 5% ^^ I was happy.

Back in the olden days of RZ, I would guard kill people on purpose. Sometimes I would go for the kill shot, but if I didn't like the look of ya, you would be eating that exp loss. I had my enchanter parked in Highkeep, where I would charm prisoners, and send them on down to the unsuspecting victims leveling off pickclaws. Since my faction was awesome, any guard along the way would assist my prisoner and charge down to the cellar to lay down the law. Line of sight was not needed to cast spells, so in the meantime, I would be up on one of the top floors of Highkeep wall casting my target. Most groups never knew what hit them, and would be shouting "WTF JUST HAPPENED?!"

What my friends and I called "the Teain Scam"

Pre velious, again on the prexus server, a buddy of mine had a lvl 52 ranger named Teain that he had quit playing. Had planer gear, epics, lots of no drop stuff. None of our other friends wanted the account, so we decided to use it for scamming instead.

Find a guy selling something mildly expensive, 25k ish range. Ask the guy "hey man I know this sounds weird, but i'll trade you a lvl 52 ranger for that item, all you gotta do is take over the billing." Usually the guy would suspect a scam, so we'd let him log onto the account, run around for a bit, maybe even give him a few hours to decide. We'd promise to give him all the necessary info once the trade was completed.

Of course, once the trade was completed, we'd change the password and screw the guy.

It worked for a solid couple weeks, but it eventually got to the point where everyone trading in EC was aware of our little game and it stopped working. So then we just ebayed the account.

Back on live (xev server) this was in like 2000 i started in kunark i was about 14 and i thought it was a good idea to sell a cloth shirt as a fungi.

I told the guy i was in a huge hurry to just trade me the money quick before my mom turned the computer off i had it like 10k cheaper than normal cuz of the hurry.

I was on a burn character and my cousin was standing right next to me, took the play traded it to cuz and logged and deleted the guy. Good times.

For some reason he thought this was cool because I didnt react. Then he gave me his account info. I sold his holgresh beads, his fungi, manastone, and blade of carnage.

On bored nights or just nights where I was feeling a particularly high level of angst, I'd log on one of two RL friends Druids and head to Qeynos. I proceeded to charm every animal in sight and give them thorns, chloro, SLN, etc. etc. and then zone. I did this for every animal in sight. I'd then watch all the resident newbies get rekt over and over again laughing so hard I was in pain :(

I'd also get the Priest of Discord to attack guards at the lifts in Gfay and coerce the local newbies to help take down the evil Priest. Little did they know the Priest was a monster and after he finished slaughtering the guards, they were next.

Never did any crazy thievery in Everquest but lots and lots of training/trolling/tomfoolery. I still look back on it fondly, actually.

I used to keep a delvled dorf rogue camped at gobs just to log in and randomly kill everyone

Was good times one shotting sitting casters who didnt keep their see invis up :^)

I enter zones that I have no intention of staying in and do camp checks, then I will claim a camp, usually one that someone is late to calling out, just to start an argument before I zone out or get ported out.

I once pulled off a heist on p99 that landed me an unimaginable fortune....

I was part of a leveling guild with my main level forty warrior and a level 18 or so alt enchanter. One of the officers sold the iksar illusion spell frequently for a price of 2k in EC. I wanted this spell for my enchanter badly, and also felt greedy for 2k, which at the time seemed wealth beyond measure. The officer gave me all the details on how I could solo the quest myself.

A couple days later I was on my enchanter and the officer offered to give away two free copies of the spell. I went and snatched one ASAP on the enc, scribed it, cast it, and logged.

Then I got on my warrior and contacted him again. Since we didn't have a guild roster he did not know who my alt was. I chatted him up. Then I asked for a copy of the spell for my alt enchanter. He kindly gave it to me.

Shortly after I left the guild.

That is how i amassed 2k pp and a spell at the low price of my reputation.

Ended up feeling bad and paying for one of the spells in the end

Right about the time Kunark was coming out, some poor schmuck on Luclin was selling small bronze armor. My ~level 15 bard had saved enough to buy a few visible pieces, I think it was Bp+Legs+Helm at least. We do the trade (maybe 100p for everything) and then I notice that the small bronze bp isn't bronze, but actually a mithril bp... not sure if he even knew what he had, but I definitely waited until he logged to equip it. Sorry random dwarf from Luclin circa 2000.

When I was a snot-nosed adolescent I once saw a monk with Fists of Rock in Paludal Caverns. This was before the days of hyperlinking items, so I asked to see in trade to view the item's stats. While my friend and I stared at the item in awe, the other player accidentally hit trade and I immediately clicked trade as well. I was delighted, but it was not a good look. He was begging me to give the item back but I just pleaded ignorance. GM's got involved, but couldn't do anything since he technically gave it to me. The item was worth only a couple thousand pp I believe, but as my highest character was level 17 this was more money than I could imagine at the time.

Years later when I was playing Shadowbane I ran into the same character (his name was the same) and we talked about eq for about 10 minutes before I lured him into some remote wooded area away from the city, PK'ed him and took his money.

I still feel guilty af for being such a shit head. I've been an upstanding citizen of Norrath on p99...trying to pay it forward. If you're the victim in this story send me a tell with your character and server name from back in the day and I'll make it up to you <3

Hey,

I hope you're doing well on Phini.
I never raised the subject since I figured out it was useless but since you're pretty much gone maybe it's worth it.

My character ------ was robbed by some BDA guy.
Mostly, my manastone, ES legs, fungi, a couple droppable, a few tink bags and around 40K.
Since the guy auctionned everything at the same time on the account "Comte", it got locked down. Not early enough for most of the stuff to get sold.

Long story short, I got my ES legs back thanks to the staff. That's all.

I'd like to know if you'd be classy enough to get me my manastone, fungi, and 40K back. Or whatever could make it up for it.
It would be very much appreciated.

Thanks for considering this,
Cheers,
-------

Hey,

I don't really know what I expected as an answer.
Seems like silence is all I deserve after getting fucked.
Classy :)

Have a nice day,

The firepot scam -

Sometime between kunark and velious there was the firepot scam. Back in those days, you could drop money on the ground. And not only that, it wouldn't ask you if you were sure you wanted to drop it. It would just drop.

Fire was considered a wall of sorts in that if you could find a fire pot big enough, you could sit in it and people couldn't easily click you.

Turns out, EC has just the fire pots.

Scam was simple. "WTS fungi tunic, 35k. gotta get rid of it quick" and you'd get a tell or two. Work out the deal and tell them to meet you at the fire pot next to the good ol' shady swashbuckler.

"In the firepot he says? wow, that's like cool and mysterious and stuff. And what a good price. Wow, this guy is a cool trader!".

The stooge walks up, tries to open trade with his 35k, clicks the fire and it drops right on the ground. And while he's trying to figure out what happened, you're already half camped with his money.

Made about 250k before everyone in EC was spamming not to trade in the firepots. Haha.

My pyscho little brother took it even further and went server to server doing it. Ended up getting patched out pretty quick.

One of my fondest memories was when you had to stick items in the trade window to show stats. I exploited a certain tactic on monks quite regularly... What tactic do you say?

Well first, monks didn't have bags in the beginning. They were real limited, which meant their inventory slots were used up. So I would ask to see their items in trade, and request a full window of eight... 8 out of 10 monks would do this and I would then hit cancel... This would cause their items to drop on the ground and I would pick them up...

Man, it was funny. I scored Knuckle dusters, fighting batons, and black panther skin armor.

They would cry to the gm's who couldn't do shit and I would log off. Sure this was a scummy thing to do , but coming up on EQ was a dirty business sometimes.

I used to train spectres and hill giants onto people at the dock in Oasis all day, then one day someone saw me. He petitioned and again i got a tell from a GM saying strike 2, from there on out I stopped training people and ninja looting and just decided to do something else.

on live, no particular ranking;

before group loot message was implemented, I'd always carry a moonstone ring and silversilk legs, proceed to get into frenzy / AM group, ninja the FBSS or SMR, and give the common item to the group leader

zoning into a chinese PoFear raid and shouting NAGASAKI HIROSHIMA BOOM BOOM

training an 80 people raid in WW for a key mob, claiming not to have seen I had agro, to be backed up by my entire guild, while I obviously knew I trained them, the key is to only do it when it really matters

training spectres to docks, using DMF and 200 swim skill to take them there through the sea so only the scythes showed above water.. I was payed for this entertainment in beer at the local cybercafe

have a RL friend officer in a competing guild with a transfer no-drop hack, supplementing my own raid loots with their 'rots', one of my twinks still has items from zones it was never keyed for

warping through OOW, saving myself countless hours of travel time

explaining to Dev Ngreth that song of highsun can be used to restore raid mobs to 33% hp, while on a raid where you had to defend mobs from waves of incomming NPC's.. highsun no longer works on raids due to this

I blame myself most for that last fuckup and never after that gave devs info during beta

Good ride still :)

Damnit I think to myself so I log on my monk (already parked at ce as I lvl there -monk was 35) and proceed to solo and see if I can start a convo with him when he gets back (doesn't know monks name) anyways I pull a mob to corner and a caster adds and starts kicking my ass ruthlessly and as I think to myself "fuck I'm gonna die" I fd.

Next thing that happens is I hear "ugh, ahh, oww" that douchebag is getting fucked by the mobs I just pulled (caster must have aoe'd while beating me and broke his fd) my monk was at 10% or less and this was an accident albeit very welcomed. I laugh and realize what just happend..

I decide I must finish what I started and port around looking for his bind, after scouring norrath I finally discovered his bind in HHK. Perfect. He is kos to guards so I trained his ass until I couldn't tell where the corpses started or where they ended, some lvl 20 told me he conned blue to them now so I knew it was going to be a good day for him in particularly. At one point he moved a little right before guards started beating him and plugged upon death, an hour later he logged on and it happened again.

justice my friends. Justice.

I just keep imagining him getting to his computer and seeing a naked ogre 10+ levels lower than last time he played, and wondering how he rationalized what happend. In case you are reading this, well, if you don't know now you know, *****.

this is not characteristic of me I am a very generous person yada yada, thx for reading & hope you enjoy

Also I think both parties learned something - don't be a fucking scumbag scammer and to other - demand payment upfront.

Did everyone receive free BPs for the transgression? ^^

IIRC Trakanon had to eat a suspension for raid interference.

Nah, if they weren't already engaged Trakkanon clearly had FTE on them.

I feel like Nignor had his hand in a little bit of scummery early on after watching him in Oasis one evening.

Because you can't say Rallos Zek wasn't unsuspecting in general. That was a very unsuspecting server, which to me from my perspective, made anyone taking advantage of that a de facto scumlord.

Even with a guild tag, you still had instances where you could tag down, deguild, etc and a fresh group somewhere would have no idea what you were up to.

Take a few days off, come back, a few days later nobody in that zone or bracket knew who you were. Ahhh *inhales* high population...

I always felt every pk on Rallos was a bit of a scumbag because of the inherent politick involved, including myself. Predator and prey. Never to be again experienced or repeated. From 1999 to 2001 I felt like a full blown criminal.

The only PvPers who I didn't consider scumbags were guys like Insanitys Edge, Taskman's guild Arch Nemesis/Nephilim or whatever, and Begotten. I know you joined ranks later with these more organized PvPers. That to me was "PvP'. PKing and PvP on RZ were not synonymous.

Peacebreakers, DB, and the like were definitely scum. I don't know about you, but from 1999 to 2001 I felt like a full blown criminal and people I knew in real life also thought I was said criminal, and formed a certain opinion of me based on how I played that server.

And I loved every second of it.

venthos's guild finally gets EP flagged and his entire guild zones into Plane of Earth. I disguise myself as one of their rangers using a different weapon and crown of deceit. pull half the zone and train it to the ent and zoned out. swapped my weapons and unclicked my illusion. they ended up booting one of their own guildies. well worth venthos's entire guild dying as soon as they got flagged.

My friends and I use to lure the newbies asking questions, usually directions, to the arena in Freeport then have our way with them. It didn't always work but when it did, that feel you know? Punk ass teenagers.

1. To Dr3am (guy who says he got Thom Terrazas rustled with legal threats): Definitely believable. When I was on Zek (TSS era maybe?) somebody in a very active (and known) hacker guild figured out a way to hack SOE's gamewide MotD, and put a nice little vulgarity in there. SOE flipped, and basically comped him for disclosing the security hole by giving him a BIS zerker, on the condition that he wouldn't movelog it to Zek, where the raid guilds weren't even caught up to content that would provide that level of gear.

Of course, he movelogged the toon right away, and went around mopping people up in PvP with it. So stuff like this (SOE bribing people with toons to avoid drama) definitely happens, especially on PvP servers.

2. Worst thing that ever happened to me was I let a close friend (in EQ) have my Winter's Fury to play around with for an hour or two. It was a hell of a twink item then (from Skyshrine), and as I recall it was fetching around $225 on eBay. He never responded to a tell again, and I never saw the sword again. He was in an extremely goodie goodie roleplay guild, too, but everyone has their price, I guess. I learned my lesson, and frankly never ever shared account info or gear again for precisely this reason.

3. Worst thing I ever did was inadvertent. One time when I came back to the game after a break, I got a friend to give me a mostly-empty account that had vet rewards on it and refer-a-friend bonuses so I could use it to make/level up my new main. I played for a couple years after that, and then after I quit I guess I just forgot to cancel my recurring credit card subscription. My card expired a month or two later, and I guess my card issuer--if you try to charge an expired card shortly after it has expired--lets the charge go through, but then charges it back if the cardholder doesn't call them to confirm the charge. I was traveling abroad at the time, and didn't get their messages, so they charged it back.

As you may know, SOE hits chargebacks very very hard with the ban hammer, so they actually banned every account that had ever been logged in from the same IP address. The friend who originally gave me the account was a multi-boxing EverQuest obsessive who could take down raid encounters on his own, and he instantly lost every one of his accounts to a ban. Years later he thanked me for inadvertently solving his EQ addiction, but at the time he thought I had ruined his life, and I felt pretty bad about it.

Left my computer on in ec tunnel for almost 2 weeks on xev server until i became moderator of the trade channel (i dont remember how that happened exactly, i think it was time spent in channel).

Proceeded to lock said channel and people had no channel to auction for almost 2 days before gms reacted.

Received RL death threats on my main for almost a month following that event.

Me (kabijito) the enchanter and a few random high ranking players on tunare server
Kept crashing crystallo's to spawn dragons and other names for 6 hours
Before Sony issued a emergency patch to fix it
The zone was to ourselves when sof was fresh-ish
And was caused by casting the enchanter dragon mana sieve on anything in the zone
We got much loot

I also used mq2 Map system for the first and only time during classic through planes of power On fippy darkpaw server. Never teleporting mind you.
The server was rough
