I'm a new player on p1999 blue however played eq for around 5 years starting around the time PoP came out. I made a bard 2 weeks ago and got it to 52 with swarming however I am currently in leather with no stats have a full suit of bronze but strength is to low to wear it. I have 2k plat to my name. I was just wondering what would be the fastest way to get some basic gear. Any ideas are appreciated, thanks

It's the un-classic parts of P99 (entire EMU project actually) in that there is a big unfixed bug and some lazy players choose to roll fail swarm kite strafe bards to "catch up" on this server and basically kill it in the process :(
Now at lvl 50, bards ask for handouts :D
IMO no idea of what's the point of playing p99 if only going to take the lazy beggars way that completely screws long time vet players (6+ years) of leveling up their alts in the normal fashion that we enjoy ...when not being molested by kite swarm bard players and driven to log out :p
uh heh.

You could go do the lambent armour quests as a break from running round in circles?

I'm a little confused, swarm kiting is "cheating" or is there a way (I'm not interested fyi) in actually cheating AT swarm kiting. I thought swarm kiting was a thing that was legit, like quad kiting for druids/wizards. I made a bard because I'm new, don't know anybody (at least their names) that play, so I wanted to be able to solo & build up some money to make a cleric worth playing (to at least afford spells, nothing fancy).

Pay someone 100pp to get a suit of banded, then work on Lambent.

@OP - I recommend you start with a plat making class.

If you really don't want to do that. ask high level players to help you out with plat or items. The community here on p99 is fantastic at helping new and young players get going on their adventure. Don't be shy!

Welcome to Project 1999! :)

I totally feel your pain! I also started playing about 2 weeks ago, and rolled an erudite paladin. I've made it to level 10, pulling one or two blue-con kobolds at a time (sometimes even a white-con when I'm feeling brave!) at the entrance to the Warrens. So far, I only have a combination of ringmail pieces from quests and some crustacean shell pieces that I got from... you know, interacting with and befriending people. I also raised my blacksmithing high enough to make my own weapons. Oh, and I got some JBoots and 500pp from participating in a player-run server event. But other than that...

-sheesh-

Ya once you use game genie, can it ever be the same after that?

Swarm kiting is not cheating at all, but a technique the bard can master. I have no trouble with it, but I guess those who do are thinking in the lines of "if everyone did bard swarming there would never be any outdoor mobs left in the game..." Is my guess.
Never had problems with bards swarming on this server. Chardok on the other hand...

you're my hero vexin gj on the fast leveling. tbh the best way to get gear at this point is to join a guild and start doing groups. no-drops are basically worthless unless there's someone there to loot them, make sure you're up there in hate to loot the bard drops. I don't really know how reliant bards are on gear, but you're not expected to tank so it can't be that bad. I wouldn't bother with lambent / shit like that when you're eligible for better no-drops that you could acquire for free.

Did you remember to raise your defence skills as you levelled?

I suggest that is something you should look at doing asap. You're going to take huge damage even at 52 if you mitigate hits against xp mobs like you were level 12.

You could farm Orc Fang Earrings and Ry'gorr Chain stuff in EW until you can get something better. Also the Hero Bracers quest would be pretty easy. As for the cash you have, there are plenty of bard-only weapons for ~1kpp, I would pick up one or two of those from the tunnel & use any leftover cash for either 5/55hp or 5str/5dex rings. From there you can easily group/raid for everything else.

Oh! Forgot one - you could also do the Grammar Manual quest for Ice Forged Shackles pretty easily - good bard stats.

A buddy of mine did this. Bard swarm to 50 and then he camped the AC in OOC for Jboots MQ. It's a long and boring camp but as long as you can kill the PH and the Ancient Cyclops you should be fine. The Jboots MQ sell for 5-7k IIRC.

if you seriously think the bards swarming in like 2-3 zones is killing this server, then you are delusional. not once have i ever been inconvenienced by a bard swarm kiting. there is also not some problem of excess lvl 60 bards ruining the economy. quit trying to pretend theres a problem just because you dont like that bards level faster than you. it really makes no differenc what other people are choosing to do.

Wow. I love playing my bard character, but a bard really shines in this game in a group. You probably have so many skills that are sub-par (weapons, offense / defense, etc.) that I really wonder whether you'll ever catch up, as Jimjam mentioned. You probably also don't have the player-skill to really play the role bards are good at playing, and you've missed so much of the journey along the way. It may not be cheating, but you might have killed your own fun.

Skilling up combat skills is tedious but nothing compared to the time it would have taken you to level without swarming. A lot of the skills you missed in groups can be acquired in a couple evenings. If you have questions ask other lv 50-60 bards in your level range. As far as raiding there really isn't much skill necessary so I wouldnt be concerned. Only thing guilds care about is your time commitment. If you can put in he time they will gladly school you into bard mastery. Good Job swarming and grinding as fast as you did. You can farm a lot with your level 50 bard as it is. You can easily duo with a patient person who can answer any questions and pick up a lot of gear. People love to be hateful, just ignore them.
