Just came home from work and turned on pc to a "welcome to windows 10" screen
Ive been denying their adware shit for months now and have even gone in and deleted the update files etc thats supposed to get rid of it.. and then it force installs on my pc while its not even on? I refused their terms and declined the free windows 10 and now its stuck trying to restore to windows 7..
Wtf kind of shit is this man

GWX Control Panel
This is a free tool that can remove and disable the 'Get Windows 10' notification area icon on Windows 7 and Windows 8. Recent versions can also disable 'Upgrade to Windows 10' behavior in the Windows Update control panel and do much more.

I just went in the win folder and changed all the file names and shut down the processes. Hasn't bothered me since... yet.

If you have automatic updates enabled on Windows, this is your own fault. You literally agreed to this.

Everyone I've talked to has had nothing but horror stories about windows 10. A guy I work with updated his laptop and now it's unusable as a result.
@nilbog thanks bud I'll check that out. Looks like it managed to restore back to 7 at least. Was scared it was gonna take a dump and tell me I'm fucked

Female to male, that doesn't make you any less of a normal person :D don't worry.
I also hate M$ and have spammed a bunch of threads ever since the pirating of the netbios code from unix/BSD which lead to my transition and the general hatred of this community for me.

You have to check after every update that you do. Some updates will re-enable this "feature"

You really should leave automatic updates on.
That said, it was kind of crappy of MS to make Windows 10 a recommended update.

Mine updated as well a few weeks ago, but it gave me the option of rolling it back to windows 8 and I did.

Why?
You can have it inform you immediately upon downloading the update and you can choose whether or not to have that update be applied during the next night.

Proud windows 7 user here.
Fortunately I was smart enough to shut down auto updates for the first time shortly after I saw the Windows 10 spam a few months ago,
Hasn't bothered me since. Do not plan to turn updates on again after seeing this nasty tactic.

You can't name a single good reason that has any purpose if we aren't talking about hardware changes year to year.
Basically, there is no "really should leave automatic updates turned on". Just wanted to clear that up.
Cull the herd.

A guy I know just had his laptop fried by Windows 10 upgrade.
He heard a *POP* noise, and a short bzzssss sound. Then noticed smoke came out of the laptop.
He turned it off for a bit, turned it back on. smoked, popped again, and died.
Full hardware failure. Processor literally blew up..
So much for that "Free Upgrade" wheres his free laptop?

Sounds like he ended up with a hardware upgrade in the end.

makes sense. spyware 10 was so thirsty to ravage data that it destroyed the host. its a virus.

I do not believe in letting windows automatically update.. I opt to download updates, and let me choose when to install them.
Sometimes Windows releases an update which will force you to reboot after a certain amount of time, but that can be disabled as well using the group policy editor.

Windows 10 hasn't been so bad for me; I chose to update to it from windows 8.1.
It took like an hour to figure out how to turn off all the annoying new features and stuff that sends data to Microsoft. Another 30 minutes of personalizing and I was already happy that I made the switch from the terrible 8.1 OS.
To me, Windows10 seemed to bring back the simplicity that made windows7 great and had some cool aesthetic/convenient changes added in. Granted I'm not a super tech-savvy guy, it feels good on the surface and have been running it for maybe 6 months without issue.
