I've been wanting to start a tank alt for when I am bored/cant find a group for the cleric or rogue. Now, from a brief observation I have noticed that Paladins are somewhat of a unicorn heading into the late 20s. Of all the races they can be, Erudites are near non-existent; making them also a unicorn.
We are talking about the Mythical Double Unicorn here, guys.
At some point in the past, I acquired a Ghoulbane and a Shield of the Stalwart Seas. I also have 2 5/55s on deck in the bank. I don't know when I did all this, but they are in the bank as I type this.
Now, I need you, All Mighty Nerds of the Internet.
History tells me that I want to dump every bit of my starting points in Stamina, but wont that gimp me on what gear I can use at the start? I mean, I know it wont matter a bit later in life, but I want to be ripping faces off.
I want to impress the other nerds that I will be tanking for.
Furthermore, what would some good gear to pick up, I've got maybe. . 2-2.5k if I sold everything excluding G and SotSS.
Thoughts?
Crusty is good paladin starter stuff. Fairly inexpensive too. Hurts lull but probably not a large concern.

If you really want to min-max, I'd say go all STA. You can safely assume you'll have +5 AGI from one item or another when you reach the end game. If you're more concerned with quality of life while leveling, 10 STR will help a lot.

Make sure to get 75 agi and then dump into stamina.
Pretty much this
Stamina and Wisdom are gonna be the main stats you want at high level

Should be in. All components are in game. Erudite tailors are also unicorns, though.
I have two Erudite tailors in Cracked Staff Artisans but only one is close to being able to do steelsilk at the moment (158+ tailoring at last check). It's expensive to level up tailoring and expensive to do steelsilk. Just the vial of purified mana will cost you four rubies at a minimum.

I highly recommend putting 5 points in Agility. You don't want to rely on items to be above the 75 softcap just so you can optimize 5 lousy points.
Other than getting Agility to 75, it doesn't really matter how you spend them. Most will tell you STA, but 15 STA is only around 75 HP at level 60. Honestly, Erudites have pretty miserable starting STR, just like my High Elf. That's why I did all STR, and having 85 STR as opposed to 65 was a significant difference to my quality of life leveling up.

Terrorantula is a rare-ish spawn in Sro, but drops 5-6 silk every time.
That reminds me, I should probably get more silk...

I'd dump points into STR as a matter of quality of life. If you are rolling Eru/Pal, you are not min-maxing anyway. If you want to have fun and don't have much money to dump into, go with STR, but make sure to get you AGI above 75. I think you have to add 5 points to get it there. Good luck!

The best thing I can think to do OP, once you've considered what to put the points in and zone into Norrath for the first time...

...then make a Tunare worshipping half elf like everyone else all because of one weapon :/

Terrorantula can spawn at any time of the day. You have to kill all the tarantulas in the desert portion over and over until it spawns. I don't think we're going to get the baby ones, though.
Normally you see it when people come in and clear out stuff in an attempt to get the AC to spawn, so it actually shows up more often than you'd think.

I know zero about tailoring. Can you tell me exactly what I would need to acquire/type of person I would need to find to get someone to make the imbued prexus steelsilk? you said something about four rubies? Does the tailor need to follow prexus?

I have an erudite pally alt, and I love it. Thats what I played on live. I would not play it as a main though.
If you have 3k get a sword of the morning and sell ghoulbane. Save the rest and get a haste item ASAP. Good weapon + shield of stalwart seas + haste are most important three items.
There is a BP you can get in the harbor very easy. Not good though but classic easy quest and has blue look: http://wiki.project1999.com/Barnacle_Breastplate
Just use cheap twink gear for other slots until you get more money. If you're playing erudite you're probably more interested in fashionquesting anyway, and a lot of cheap items look really good on erudite.
Lastly if you picked any religion other than prexus reroll now, you did it wrong

49+ Enchanter > 1 Vial of Purified Mana per piece you wish crafted
For each vial, you need Ruby x4, Poison Vial x1 (Easiest vendor for Poison Vial is Toxdil in WFP tunnels just outside the gates)
29+ Prexus-worshipping Cleric > 1 Imbued Black Pearl per piece you wish crafted
VENDOR > 1 Platinum Thread per piece you wish crafted
FARM > Terrorantula silk - For a full set, you need 44 terrorantula silks
Max-level Erudite Tailor with the cultural sewing kit > Highest trivial for these pieces is 275 or so. Expect some (or a lot of) failures. The numbers listed for the above are the minimum in the event of a 100% success rate. The tailor does not need to worship any particular god.

What is the minimum level of craftsmanship a person can attempt this and hope to succeed at say 50% rate?
Where do you find the cultural sewing kit? Will any erudite tailor worth their salt already have that?
Are all the pieces the same % of succeed/fail? like is the BP the same difficulty as a bracer or boots?

Thanks guys for the input!
So I think I will end up putting my stats into agi/str like you guys suggested. It looks like with velious it is a lot easier to get stam in gear than it was previously anyway.
Right now, I am looking at Crusty armor, with a hero bracer, Sword of the morning, SotSS, two 5/55s, and a few other str pieces mixed in.

A skill level of 228 will get you a success rate of ~73% for the highest difficulty. Skill level of 205 will get you a 50% success rate.
The cultural sewing kit is sold in Paineel only, by Galbasi Weaver. They should already have it unless they weren't planning to do steelsilk.
Order of difficulty should be like this, from easiest to hardest: Helm < Bracer, Collar, Mask (all the same) < Waistband, Pauldron (all the same) < Boots, Vambraces (all the same) < Greaves, Gauntlets (all the same) < Breastplate < Cloak

Make sure your starting agility is 75 . Put rest in sta or str or a mix. Or place it all in Dex for when your ghoul and can proc at 20.

you can also consider getting the venimous axe of the brood. it has a 85 dmg proc at level 1. and not limited to undead. the dmg ratio is not bad either, wont hit as hard as ghoul bane but it is faster. probably a better melee ratio.
