Rogean said a long time ago having AA's on P99 code is impossible, something about them being stripped or altered in the code in a way that isn't recoverable without fucking up an enormous amount of other shit.

Just means they have to be coded back in. It wouldn't fuck anything up, you just would have to find a way to write them back in.

No one is saying Luclin is not an enormous task in general for the current devs. But with the right hires with fire in their belly, this can be done within 2-3 years.

The word that Luclin is being developed for BETA PURPOSES only (no release planned) will do a lot for morale of current raiders and end-game players.

I am not saying announce a plan to release Luclin at all, but rather, that it should absolutely be in development even if it stays there.

Yeah ive derailed, everybody does it.

Still ive outlined what i thought really killed classic and its not (lol) the lack of PVE content.

If by derail you mean people having to scroll down your posts and not read them then yes you have derailed.

so many pages of angry nerds wanting to pve on a pvp server, how about you browse any of the 250 other emus offering a luclin gaming experience

So your chars are all level 1 with no items equipped?

EQ is a PvE MMO with PvP enabled. When you add more PvE [within reason, EQ eventually jumped the shark here], there's more people logged in to accomplish the goals, which means more people to fight with over those goals.

Never going to happen.

Hate to break it to you, but it's more likely at this point than a Teams server, on which you've written multiple treatises.

Firstly, you keep talking like adding more content will add more people. Based on Kunark having fewer people than the height of classic, and velious having fewer than the height of kunark, that isn't the case.

Second, WoW has more PvE than EQ does. It has infinite PvE, in fact, since every group gets their own instance. How often do raids fight over targets in WoW? Never.

Spread the players too thin, and the PvP stops. Create enough raid mobs that everyone can have some, and the PvP stops.

EQ PvP is about contesting gear, which only happens when that gear is limited and when the targets are accessible. Classic fixes both, by having limited gear which isn't overpowered and 10-man-able content that a small group can contest.

Again, I don't know why this is so hard to grasp. I can only assume that you're just a Luclin fanboy, in which case you shouldn't be playing on a classic, 1999 server.

Let me stop you right there. Velious hit over 300 people. Not once did Kunark hit 300+. Classic dropped down to SINGLE DIGITS during the day time after the first two months. Kunark sent pop back to triple digits.

Everything else after your incorrect factual assertions is irrelevant because it's a conclusion based on a factually incorrect premise.

You're wrong. I'm not going to tell you why you're wrong because I already have, and you aren't worth wasting more time on. If you want luclin, get off the server. There are other privates out there and no one wants your bullshit here.

"no one" yet multiple people have already endorsed Luclin, and beyond.

http://www.project1999.com/forums/showthread.php?t=210456

65% of voters would want the project to go beyond Velious, to the promised land of Planes of Power.

You say "I'm Wrong", but then don't specify what was factually incorrect with my assertion. Did pop not reach single digits during Classic? Are you disputing pop went above 300 with Velious? What exactly are you disputing?

How about a new classic timeline server while simultaneously developing Luclin to be released in ~2.75 years which would follow the original timeline.

Then everyone wins.

I don't want our developers to have to waste their time on some Luclin bullshit. They've said multiple times that they aren't going to do it and, considering it would be extra work and there are other things to fix with the current content, I tend to believe them.

As far as a new classic timeline server, I don't know if we have enough players for that. If it was a PvP Server, it would be the final nail in the coffin for Red. Plus, it would be one more server to run, extra work for Rogean and Co. So if they're going to release a classic timeline PvP Server, it would make the most sense to just wipe Red.

Nilbog said he had no interest in developing Luclin. He did say he will be implementing custom content at some point once Velious is done. While I think the chances of Luclin are rather small, this project will undoubtedly continue to evolve as years pass, perhaps with new leadership and devs. My argument was mainly to use Red99 as a testing ground for further content implementation.

This is rogeans project not nilbogs, rogean said he liked luclin and it was something he would consider.

Luclin was never changed, its current version in titanium was close to perfect / unchanged and is live on eq titan and grand creation and several other servers. Would be like zero work considering we are already using the titanium client.

It's nil bogs code will Rogan hired as a manager was my understanding.

Considering how custom red is with little thought to how a change effects the game/balance in general without ever revisiting, I cant imagine custom content will be very well managed.

I'll be checking out the other emus that go beyond velious at some point which are expacs I never saw.

Can you find me a post from Rogean or Nilbog that give a hard no on Luclin? Because I tried and couldn't find one.

Mixxit just wanted to know people's opinions on what they would like to see post-Velious. This has no bearing on what will happen here.

This is a prekunark-velious server. Nothing has changed about our mission goal :P

Since this is a hypothetical discussion, I will join in.

There is no way I would go forward with Luclin and beyond. (cat people and aliens? really. It went from a fantasy setting to 1990s scifi.) Custom content would be fun though. My idea of a post-velious world would include fewer zones, with more content in them. It would have strong faction relations between centralized cities similar to the way Kael, Thurgadin and Skyshrine operated. NPC humanoids could have family factions, and hidden factions you might know are linked. There would be a lot of npc interactions to promote the sense of zones being alive. There would be fights in the bars, and guards that don't show up to work sometimes.

I would try and make use of player characters abilities and spells. example: Instead of track being used to farm loot, it might be used to safely navigate through hostile invisible creatures you can't see otherwise:P There would be locked doors (rogues). Every class should have some type of use.

Quests would be hard, possibly requiring you to complete different objectives with one faction, then requiring parts from an opposing faction. Quests might even yield different rewards depending on the route you take to reach the end. I believe quest-rewarded items should be more about effects, and less about crazy hp/mana stats. In my post-Velious world, loot would be only marginally better than the best gear obtainable in Velious, but it would be hard to get and very unique.

I am a fan of real time strategy as well. Optional pvp is a good thing. I believe squads of npcs could be utilized for pve and pvp purposes. Mixxit demonstrated this with the Infinity's Edge (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JoIaLBpfCG4) server quite nicely. Warfare between cities where you could choose your side based on faction work, with the possibility of your city falling into enemy control. City uptime or battles won could yield temporary titles/rule to certain PCs, etc.

The original zones inspire me more than the new ones. I suppose I would try to make each and every npc and monster have a story, and have it mean something. This is what I missed post-Velious on live eq.

The server will stop at velious. At that point we may consider opening a second server starting from the beginning again, but this is still a while away (2 years atleast).

Some of us are looking forward to adding some custom content after velious, yet keeping in line with the feel of classic everquest.

I don't think AA's will ever be introduced.. I've ripped out so much of it from the code already lol.

My general opinion of Luclin as an expansion is that it will be skipped content wise. I'd rather not take any of the content that it introduced. Won't be using models, no horses.

How do people think of augments? Not exactly the same way that they were introduced with loy, but custom slots and different ways to get them.

We'll probably never have instancing, I destroyed that code a while ago.

Something I could see us doing is finding ways to improve epic weapons, sort of like how 2.5's worked.

Sorry to have the anti-Luclin vocal minority be so disappointed by Llandris.

Thanks Llandis. I did see that one Rogean post at the end in my search but I wouldn't consider that a "hard no" really. The Nilbog posts are pretty direct though, hard to find any wiggle room with some of those.

Heartbrand and I were going by a nilbog Q+A on Velious launch, straight from his mouth in response to a direct question In-game, and on the podcast.

He wouldn't even give a soft no, nevermind a hard no. How's that for wiggle room?

This was referenced earlier in the thread but no one wanted to post without written proof.

So I will repeat it again for those that may have missed it. The latest from nilbog is that he personally can't see himself doing the development because he personally doesn't feel nostalgic about it. And the wiggle room is that he wouldn't say no, except to say that he personally wouldn't be interested in developing it himself. This was in response to a direct question on Luclin by the playerbase.

Since we are getting into semantics, someone else can help out and post the exact quote if they feel inclined as I'm a bit foggy on the precise language. The above is just a summary from my recollection of what nilbog said.

The majority of people who play MMO's do so to progress their character.. Once people hit that ceiling, the vast majority will stop logging in until there's something new to do, which means the pop will drop like it did last time to the low double digits.

@Jazzy

"would donate big bucks tomorrow for a classic only red svr refresh"

I really like the idea of an original only server as well, still plenty of cool zones, and if the devs were ever bored, they could change some of the loot in some of the zones people don't usually go to (i.e. Kerra Isle, Splitpaw, etc.) Even without the change in loot, it would be fun and rev up some great pvp moments.

Fewer zones and a smaller level range = higher population density and more PvP. It's simple, and would suit the red server. I've no idea why they haven't already done this, beyond a suspicion that the devs no longer pay red any attention.
