View Full Version : List of Confirmed EC Fatcats

I think it's worthwhile to keep an up-to-date list of known scumbag EC Tunnelquesters. Aside from being general nuisances who spam WTB offers of 2/3 of going rates for all items on the market, these slimy middlemen try to manipulate the market in the following ways:
They send hate tells to others who are undercutting them (read: offering the same items that they are, but at normal prices)
They send tells to people trying to convince them that their wares don't go for as much anymore, and/or rarely find buyers, and that they'll "take it off their hands to free up their time"
They attempt to push the market price of items in a certain direction by offering fake WTB and WTS auctions on their armies of alts, in an attempt to have auction logging tools such as the wiki and http://ahungry.com/eqauctions display these bogus offers
Perhaps counter-intuitively, they reduce liquidity in the marketplace by jamming up items while holding out for the best deal
They make the tunnel and the server generally worse because of their toxic presence, and do not provide value to the culture or well-being of the server
Now before you all say "Antonin, you're just a jelly anti-semite who can't afford to buy pixels", know that this list will help our posterity of future server noobs by letting them know who to avoid. And, if we all avoid these pests, we can get rid of this plague on our beloved server.
I'll start the list.
Winkell - one of the most egregious fatcats in the tunnel today, this guy spends about 8-12 hours per day trying to skim off the top of deals. His most recent play: buying a Lodi shield for 40k and trying to resell it for "55k of trade for a fungi". Personally, he has, on several occasions, offered me 8k for an Iksar Regen BP.

Why doesn't someone just form a "procurement services" or "order direct" guild and put them out of business. Just park a mule in EC advertising sales of EVERYTHING at 10% or whatever, less than the fat cats with a 1-2 week (or whatever is appropriate for said item) fulfillment period?

That just sounds like he was putting plat in your trade screen so he could move faster.

Back when I played, I found the EC fatcats to be very helpful. I gladly spent an extra 5k on an item to save myself a few hours of waiting around in EC. I also gladly received 5k less on an item to save a few hours of waiting around in EC.
The fact that someone bought an item and then sold it at a profit does not mean they are evil or aren't helping things out. In the pre-bazaar world, untold time is wasted sitting around in EC when you can easily be making more money/items killing monsters and probably having a lot more fun to boot.
Praise to the EC fatcats, whose diligent work helps the market function and saves everyone untold hours.

Just coming back to the game, and I used to love the tunnel. Then the Bazaar came a long and I hated it. Now, I sorta wish we had that option, again. I want to be able to set up a seller and go to sleep. I'm probably alone here and it will probably never happen. My old eyes can't keep up with the auction channel these days.
Sorry for going off topic, but I'll kep an eye on this thread as to who to avoid.

I'm 100% with you. I despise EC and would be perfectly happy never going there again. I suffer through it because its necessary :/

EC is part of the game. It just becomes a problem when it's the whole game.

Bazaar made the game superior and every way. It is a very small minority that wants a manual trade only MMO. But, it definitely isn't classic. It's one of the reason I would like the server to go to Luclin.

It wasn't Original/Kunark/Velious, that's all I mean.

Also I had an experience once on blue where I was getting lowballed by a guildie trying to get a "guild discount" on a JBB...like 3k under what I was going to sell for.
Do you have a shaman alt?.... yes.
Do you play him much?.... I'm about to level him, just needed this to get started.
What's his name? (...)
At this point he took too long to reply so I kept grilling him. First he tried to say it was for a friend and then outright/finally admitted he was going to flip it for higher than my original asking price.
Pixel sickness folks, its a horrible thing...turns good people bad, and bad people into monsters.
