View Full Version : Miscellaneous: Dragon hitbox bug
Currently a lot of dragons have excessively large hit boxes that allows players to swing through walls while avoiding dragon aoes indoors. I don't know if this is a problem on the blue server but currently on red we have guilds that are willing to exploit this.

If dragon hit boxes were reduced to a more realistic size this would put an end to exploiting dragons in this way.
This information was posted on the red forums but did not gain much attention, so I am posting it here to gather more support for this change. Red thread:

Stream of Acid is a targeted AE effect; only those in line of sight to the person it's being cast on (the tank) will be hit by it
this is different from a point-blank AE effect; only those in line of sight to the caster (the NPC) will be hit by it

hope that clears up any confusion you may have
This thread is about the dragon hit box size.

your post is focused around allegedly using "attacking through a wall to avoid AoEs"
not only is this a cherry picked screenshot where someone is still mid animation while moving around a corner, it wouldn't have mattered anyway; none of the people in that screenshot are in line of sight to the tank while attacking the dragon
there is a small cubby in that gateway that the tank was positioned in
i invite both you and the staff who tuned in during the streamed raid in question to join us once again on our next Sleeper's Tomb Warder raid tomorrow, 11/18, starting at 7 PM EST at http://www.twitch.tv/gongsh0w
i hope that with this new information in mind, it will put tomorrow's raid in a totally new and more-sensical perspective now that you finally understand EverQuest AoE mechanics
This is the best example I have of the bad dragon hitboxes. Do you have a better one that shows how large the hit boxes are and how easily exploitable it is?

if you explain an exploit that is actually happy, i'd probably agree with you

I really dont get what AoEs have to do with you being able to punch a dragon 50 ft away afk through a wall.

Like casting, Melee should require line of sight.
Large hit box mobs should not be allowed to be meleed through a wall. You should receive a "you cannot see your target" message.
Meleeing through a wall (like that pet is) shouldn't functionally be allowed to happen.

You can't melee through walls.what is happening here is he is taking advantage of a small window to avoid a targeted aoe while still being able to attack. Pets can attack through walls, and they will avoid all ae this way. All NPCs can attack through walls. Pets, charmed pets, that mob you pulled that can hit you but you can't hit it.

Yea, but NPCs shouldn't be able to do that.
Getting hit through the ceiling in Hate 2.0 or getting hit by a rooted mob 1 floor below you in Kedge Keep shouldn't happen. NPCs should have the same Z-Axis limitations as PCs when trying to connect hits. Thus the rise of pillar tank/z-axis exploiting.
I suppose the way it's done here may be done to avoid any potential Z-Axis exploits with tanking, but it's really annoying to have a mob in Hate 2.0 start beating you down on the floor above you. It should classicly aggro you and then proceed to train the shit out of your raid!

Thanks for the input. I hope this exploit gets fixed. Its a shame raiding guilds are taking advantage of this unclassic mechanic

please report this troll post. jeni is using any avenue he can to troll. again, please report this troll post.
thanks for your time.
Honestly I can't find a single reason people would be against a small hit box reduction in order to fix the fact that people can attack dragons through walls unless that reason is leaving it in to potentially exploit. Leaving this the way it is just guarantees if not now someday this will be exploited. You do not have to be very clever or creative to figure out how attacking a mob through a los blocking wall would be beneficial in some scenario.
I see an epic pet and a monk swinging through a wall pretty sure this isn't intended. Please stay on topic this is not rants and flames. Everyone benefits from this change if you are a legit Everquest player.

weird that you can watch a stream to take a screenshot but don't realize this was taken as he was mid animation strafing around the corner
